  3. THE PONTIFICAL ENTHRONEMENT OF 1876 The College of Cardinals lead the procession and the newly elected Pontiff through St. Henrik’s Basilica, c. 429 E.S. As twenty years of Tylos II’s reign came to a close, once again did the College of Cardinals find themselves locked within St. Heinrik’s Basilica for hours, constant sounds of hushed debate being heard by those who waited outside with anticipation as to who would be the next Vicar of GOD. Only when the sun had struck midday were the doors to the Cathedral opened by two young Acolytes, the hall and pews immediately being filled by faithful Canonists from across Almaris, Haeseni and Orenian alike. Where moments ago there was near complete silence, there was now the deafening sound of prayers and conversation in all corners, before the door to the Cardinal’s private room was opened, and silence fell upon GOD’s home once more. Two Acolytes were the first to grace the eyes of the spectators, before the College of Cardinals followed shortly after, one in noticeably more colorful clothing than usual. The timely strides ceased before the altar, the five electors facing the crowd as it was Cardinal Jordan who stepped forward. A third Acolyte appeared briefly to place a wooden box before the Vice-Chancellor and lift its lid, before making his way out of sight once more. The Cardinal read aloud each and every vote, his voice echoing to those who listened: Klaus Cardinal Jorenus; Klaus Cardinal Jorenus; Melquíades Cardinal Providentia; Armand Cardinal Allobrogum; Klaus Cardinal Jorenus; Many surprised whispers filled the room, but nonetheless many cheers accompanied them, and Klaus traced the Hussariya across himself before seating himself upon the throne, his exhausted eyes looking out across the gathered crowd, who he merely greeted with an occasional nod and smile. After a few moments, he was approached by Adrian Cardinal Albarosa, that same Cardinal going to begin with the Prayer of Penitence: "Almighty and most merciful Creator, we have wandered and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things that we ought to have done; and we have done those things that we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us sinners. Spare those who confess their faults. Restore those who are penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Horen our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Creator, for his sake, that we may live a disciplined, righteous and godly life, to the glory of your holy name. So say we all." During a short pause, the Pontiff-Elect would rise, signing himself with the Hussariya once more before the Prelate continued. “With the Lord Creator our witness and guide, it has been divined that Klaus of Reinmar, born Klaus Wilheim Barclay, has been willed to fulfill the seat of the Church Pontificate. Do you heed the call of Our Creator to bear this vocation?” Cardinal Adrian said before Klaus responded, “I do so believe.” “You have been ordained in our church, your household names forsaken and your life devoted in sole service to the teachings of our Creator. The vows of your past vocations remain firm; now you must make the declaration of assent.” Adrian then proceeded to read the assent, an age-old part of the ceremony preserved from Pontiff to Pontiff… “The Church of Faithful is the One, Holy and Rightful Church of the Creator, worshiping the one true God, The Creator. It professes the faith uniquely revealed in the Holy Scrolls and set forth in the Faithful creeds, which faith the Church is called upon to proclaim afresh in each generation. Led by the Holy Light, it has borne witness to Faithful truth in its historic formulates, the Articles of Faith, The Book of Saints. In the declaration you are about to make, will you affirm your loyalty to this inheritance of faith as your inspiration and guidance under God in bringing the grace and truth of Horen to this generation and making Him known to those in your care?” To which Klaus would respond: “I, Klaus of Jorenus, do so affirm, and accordingly declare my belief in the faith which is revealed in the Holy Scrolls and set forth in the Faithful creeds and to which the historic formularies of the Church of The Creator bear witness; and in public prayer and administration of the sacraments, I will use only the forms of service which are authorized or allowed by Canon.” “Do you accept the Holy Scrolls as revealing all things necessary for eternal salvation through faith?” "I do so accept them." "Will you be diligent in prayer, in reading Holy Scrolls, and in all studies that will deepen your faith and fit you to bear witness to the truth of the Word?" "By the help of God, I will." "Will you lead your people in proclaiming the glorious Word of Horen, so that the good news of salvation may be heard in every place?" "By the help of God, I will." "Will you teach the doctrine of Horen as the Church of Faith has received it, will you refute error, and will you hand on entire the faith that is entrusted to you?" "By the help of God, I will." "Will you be faithful in ordaining and commissioning ministers of the Church?” "By the help of God, I will." Will you be gentle and merciful for Horen’s sake to those who are in need, and speak for those who have no other to speak for them? "By the help of God, I will." "Will you endeavor to fashion your own life and that of your household according to the way of God and make your home a place of hospitality and welcome?" "By the help of God, I will." "Will you work with your fellow servants in the Church for the sake of the kingdom of God?" "By the help of God, I will." "Will you accept the discipline of this Church, exercising authority with justice, courtesy and love, and always holding before you the example of Horen?" "By the help of God, I will." "Will you then, in the strength of the Holy Light, continually stir up the gift of God that is in you, that the good news of God may be proclaimed in all the Realm?" "By the help of God, I will." "Speak thus then the oath of the Pontificate, with the conclave and God as witness." "I vow to change nothing of the received Tradition, and nothing thereof I have found before me guarded by my God-pleasing predecessors, to encroach upon, to alter, or to permit any innovation therein; To the contrary: with glowing affection as her truly faithful student and successor, to safeguard reverently the passed-on good, with my whole strength and utmost effort; To cleanse all that is in contradiction to the canonical order, should such appear; to guard the Holy Canons and Decrees of our Saints and Pontiffs as if they were the divine ordinance of Heaven, because I am conscious of Thee, whose place I take through the Grace of God, whose Vicarship I possess with Thy support, being subject to severest accounting before Thy Divine Tribunal over all that I shall confess; I swear to God Almighty and the Favored son Horen that I will keep whatever has been revealed through Horen and His Successors and whatever the Saints and my predecessors have defined and declared. I will keep without sacrifice to itself the discipline and the rite of the Church. I will put outside the Church whoever dares to go against this oath, may it be somebody else or I. If I should undertake to act in anything of contrary sense, or should permit that it will be executed, Thou willst not be merciful to me on the dreadful Day of Divine Justice. Accordingly, without exclusion, We subject to severest excommunication anyone -- be it Ourselves or be it another -- who would dare to undertake anything new in contradiction to this constituted Tradition and the purity of the Faith and the Faithful religion, or would seek to change anything by his opposing efforts, or would agree with those who undertake such a blasphemous venture." As Klaus’s oath taking has come to a conclusion, Adrian then proceeded to anoint his forehead with the Holy Waters of Gamesh, tracing the cross across the Pontiff-Elect’s forehead. After the oaths were taken, the preparation of the Pontifical Regalia began. The Cardinals brought part by part of the regalia, so that Pontiff-Elect Klaus could put on all the parts on time. As the small ceremony drew to a close, Cardinal Adrian gently took the Pontifical Laurel from a small red pillow. With care the Cardinal lifted it from the pillow, holding it between both hands as he approached the throne. Raising an indescribably beautiful laurel above his head, Adrian gently lowered the laurel onto the head of Pontiff-Elect. With a bright smile, hands clasped in front of him, the Prelate shifted to the side, looking at the congregation… "I announce to you a great joy: We have a High Pontiff! The Most Eminent and Most Reverend Lord, Klaus of Jorenus. High Pontiff of the Canonist Faith who takes to himself the name..." “TYLOS THE THIRD!”
  4. Patriarch Klaus handed his letter to the Vice-Chancellor, then returning to his seat as he nervously awaited the result...
  5. Patriarch Klaus stood within the hall of Reinmar's cathedral, once again distracted by his thoughts to join the others in praying. His eyes stayed glued to the portraits of Saint Tylos, constant muttering under his breath. It seemed this was the most distressed he'd ever been, the Bishops around him ushering him to rejoin them, but to no avail. "Ich hope du understand, Ihr Holiness." were the only words the present clergy could clearly make out from the man, before he simply left the Cathedral for now.

  9. As usual, Konstanz Barclay was sat near the entrance to the Seven Skies, head lowered as if on the verge of falling asleep. Though as he spotted his father approaching, his eyes quickly darted open once more, and he'd abandon the sword which lay next to him as he ran to the former Duke, tightly hugging the first family to join him and their ancestors.
  10. Patriarch Klaus stood within the crypts of Reinmar, witnessing his family's servants prepare yet another resting place for a relative. The letter sent to him was within one of his robe's many pockets, the seal on it broken and it's words read several times over, and many times more in his head. "Pontiff..." he murmured to himself, scowling at the thought of it "There are better men than me to take the mantle, und thank Gott for that." The man stayed down in the deep resting hall long after the servants left, seemingly unresponsive to any sounds, before finally moving out after some time. Many times had he done this before, though few times did he do so with a tear stained face.

  12. In the mortal plain, Patriarch Klaus stood within the confines of the Basilica, his ears assaulted by the prayers of the nearby priests and bishops of the Patriarchate. Though he uttered no prayers himself, not that he didn't wish to, but because his mind was elsewhere. His thoughts constantly returned to those confessions Sigismund confessed to him in confidence. Never before had he been so tempted to dig deeper into a confession; it wasn't everyday a King confessed. Eventually, however, those thoughts were locked away, to eventually be forgotten by the man, as he finally returned to prayer. It was the least he could do for his fallen liege. In the Seven Skies, Sigismund would spot a bottle of Ilya red wine thrown his way. Whether he caught it or not, he'd hear the laughs of Fionn Castaway shortly after "Tú did tell me that was túr favourite behind Carrion, Túr Majesty, so I've stored some of the piss for tú!" he then offered the King a shit-eating grin before returning to his opened bottle of Carrion.
  13. Konstanz Barclay would be sat down on the soft surface near the entrance of the Seven Skies, his arms loosely wrapped around a sword he had yet to remove the green and blue cloth from. His gaze would not be turned to the piece however, but downward, watching those he knew in his life and patiently waiting for one of them to join him. Though as his watch waned from his loved ones in Haense to his brother and Saoirse, he seemed to find an abnormality in his thoughts, and a weak smile found it's way onto his visage. Perhaps he had found someone else he could wait a long while for. "Take ihr time, bruder. I'll be up here either way."
  14. The Straw That Broke the Baron’s Back The Baron of Sigradz sat alone in his office, the cold wind of the deep night outside slowly seeping into the room through an open window. Before the man, a mountain of papers scrunched up and tossed aside littered his desk, with only a few proper parchments before him, written and signed moments ago. As he looked over the missives, a wave of doubt slowly filled him; Were these letters even needed? Perhaps he had simply been thinking too much about the day ahead, as he tended to do during his nights of pondering, though as much as he wanted to say no, life was cruel in its unpredictability, as it had been to him before. With a sense of hesitation, Konstanz folded the letters up, sealing them with his personal seal and handing them to his personal servants. “If I’m nicht back within the week, send these out.” Thus did the Baron then make his way to his chambers, the last time he would do so. Soon, the next afternoon had made its way onto the northern Kingdom of Almaris, and the squire stood outside the Nikarala, donning the full plate of his house, and patiently waiting for his companion of the day to arrive. His eyes made their way out into the square, falling momentarily on each of the subjects going about their business; drinking by the tavern, bartering with local merchants, or simply conversing with the fellow passersby. He took the time to imagine what each conversation was about, what each person was thinking, what their story may have been. His pondering was finally interrupted as a nudge was felt on his ankle, the man looking down to spot the individual he had been patiently waiting for. Gloves, a white fox belonging to Princess Amadea, who he had convinced to let him bring the animal along. He would bend down to pluck the rotund canine from the ground, giving her a pat before gently placing her within a spare saddlebag which hung off his horse. As he mounted the steed, he spotted the Baroness Sorina making her way to the Palace. As his horse sauntered towards the docks, he quickly called out to her. “Lady Sorina, tell Amadea I’ll be back with Gloves soon!” Without waiting for a response, Konstanz was already gone, his mount galloping off towards the direction of Ghaestenwald. The mountain range surrounding the seat of House Morovar was a treacherous one, made wet with the light drizzles, the squire forced by the terrain to tie his steed to a fence post by the main gate of the keep and make his way out on foot. His gear would clank off of each other and his armour as he stepped and leaped over the holes around him, the sounds of metal and wood scraping accompanied by the low pants of Gloves, struggling to keep up as they trekked through the hilly environment. Step by step, the duo would drag themself up and down the mountains of the Orenian Heartlands, before their travels presented them with the ruins of New Esbec. Konstanz’ hands went to his back, unstrapping his spear and shield from his back as he looked towards the larger buildings of the ruins, though only silence met him and his partner whilst doing so. AS the last building was searched, however, a shriek was heard from the south, Konstanz rushing in the direction with Gloves right behind, the two stopping right at a bush as their eyes looked up to witness a titanic avian atop the hill ahead. As the rain let up, however, the two found themselves relieved to realise it was simply a statue. Their relief quickly washed away however as the monument’s lively counterpart descended to perch atop it. The crowdrake before them was massive, larger than Konstanz had ever anticipated. Its jet black wings made it stand out against the clear skies of the central continent, and its golden eyes were able to be made out. Its beak, protruding far from its head, looked like it rivalled the length of a small child, with the size of one too. As the squire kept his eyes on the beast above, its beak opened up to unleash yet another shriek, this time stunning the man completely as he could only watch it fly off. But as the effect wore out, the Baron quickly scaled the mountain ahead, soon making his way up on the level of the statue, weapon and shield still in hand. The skies seemed clear all around, Konstanz’ eyes scouring it several times, until he noticed a black shape ahead. It swooped down towards him, eyes dead ahead and its wings flapping furiously, the wind generated crashing against the grass below, sending a sound almost as deafening as its cries to his ears. Though the squire raised his shield high and his spear raised higher, preparing for the skirmish to ensue. What seemed like hours had passed, and Konstanz and the crowdrake were on level ground, both wounded and desperate as they stared at each other for a moment that felt as if it would never pass. Konstanz leaned on his left foot, his right ankle sprained and hindering his performance since the bird’s first drop of him onto the hard ground below. His shield was on the ground, and his spear had been swapped over to his left hand, his right arm shattered beyond current use by his second drop onto the earth. The avian before him, having gotten devastating hits of its own on the man, was not in the best state either, two stabs deep into its legs flowing with blood, and the azhl effects from his spear worsening its state. Though it was in a bad state, it could still flee. Konstanz, however, was completely at its mercy. As the two stood off, he would begin to pray, to God, to Exalted Sigismund, to Saint Tylos and Saint Nicholas, anyone he could think of, to bestow the man a miracle and make the beast before him retreat, as it had twice already. Twice had he been given the opportunity to run, and twice had his pride prevented him from doing so. No one before had dared to return from a Knight’s Quest midway, and he wasn’t going to be the first. Though as he struggled to keep his footing, he began to realise how generous the titan ahead had been. All he could hear throughout the scenario was the low barks of Gloves behind him, trying her best to distract the creature, but to no avail. After what felt like an eternity, the beast moved, flapping its wings for elevation as its claws wrapped around him once again. For the third time, Konstanz had been granted a bird’s eye view of the lands around him. Though he couldn’t afford a moment’s glance. His eyes stayed dead ahead and above, towards the cutoff between fleshy legs and boney feet. With all his remaining strength, the Baron faced his spear’s head at this point. If he could hit it twice before, he could manage once more, perhaps even dig it deep enough to wedge it, to provide a platform to hang on for dear life. He held his breath, not allowing anything to prevent him from succeeding. At what may have been the worst time, the azhl had finally taken significant effect on the crowdrake, its talons slowly opening up to drop the Baron to the valley below. The slow opening however had caused Konstanz to slip slightly, sending a nervous shake throughout his body, before he thrusted forward with all his might. All his weak body mustered was a jab against the keratin of the avian’s leg. The crowdrake had fully released his grip, and once more Konstanz was sent plummeting down into the chasm below. The force from bashing into his opponent’s bone had sent him spinning, his gaze rapidly switching between scenes of the green grass below, and the blue skies above, with a glint of white from Gloves’ fur and the black feathers of his target being noticeable every now and then. The squire’s breathing had begun once again, and its rhythm was constant as Konstanz emitted a panicked, deep breath, a wide and panicked look in his eyes under his dirty helmet accompanying such. His mind rushed in all directions as time seemed to slow for him. His thoughts first went to Gloves, who he could see was helplessly spectating his final moments; what was to happen to the poor pet without him to guide her home? What would Amadea even think if she returned home without him, or not at all? Home. Reinmar. His parents; what were they to think of their son who was set to carry on their legacy, now set to lie dead in a vast mountain range outside of their homeland? His Duchy to inherit, mere miles away to the north, felt a lifetime away. A life he was doomed to never lead, with a Duchess by his side. Viktoriya; what would she do? She had just lost her mother mere months ago, what was she to do with a second loss to grieve? Would she move on given time, or would she wait to be reunited with him? He wouldn’t blame her if she were to do the former, he had to do the same before. His pondering was cut short, as he had realised the greenery below was about to seize his entire sight, and soon his life. Slowly did he close his dry eyes, the wind which rushed against them preventing any tears from forming, and he awaited the inevitable. His frame crashed against the hard ground below, the death near instant, though a comfort his soul wouldn’t have the pleasure of enjoying. The crowdrake above, hurt in its own right, gave out one last shriek before crash landing into a nearby hill, Gloves the only one around to hear. As the seconds passed, Konstanz’ eyes were abandoned by the temporary darkness, and his sight was greeted by a sight so familiar yet so foreign, a sight he couldn’t describe. Though he knew where he had been sent. Nowhere else would he be greeted by the presence of Baron and Dukes past, their consorts by their sides, and a sympathetic look on each of their faces as they looked down at the man who sat at the entrance to the Seven Skies. Finally did the tears begin to form on his face, reality slowly setting in as he would bury his face in his hands, sobbing uncontrollably. The presence of his ancestors did nothing to console him, for he knew deep down. It was his pride that had condemned him to this fate. His pride was the straw that broke the Baron’s back. 17. LETTER TO THE KNIGHT’S TABLE ON THE KILLING OF CROWDRAKES Issued By THE BARON OF SIGRADZ On this 12th of Jula & Piov 424 E.S VA VE KOSSINZ I VE BIRODAL, The Order of the Crow, as clearly shown in its name, is loyal to the crows of House Barbanov, and as such are oathed by proxy to prevent the harming of the animal which adorns the royal family’s sigil. However, there lives in this plain of existence a species of aviary creatures similar to the crow, though gargantuan in size, known by the Descendants as crowdrakes. These animals are highly dangerous and should most definitely be exterminated when the subjects of the Kongzem are at risk, however the Baron of Sigradz wishes for the Knight’s Table to discuss the validity of these creatures as targets should they not be threatening the northern domain. Earlier this Saint’s day, the aforementioned Squire was given his trial by the Oracle of Maenvestiyaeo, that being to track down and kill a crowdrake residing in the mountains lining the south of Almaris’ northern continent. Crowdrakes have been the target of past Knight Quests, most notably by Ser Alric, the tenth Knight Paramount, however “The Cavalier” killed a crowdrake who threatened his family’s land. The crowdrake the Baron has been tasked with killing does not threaten the Kongzem’s subjects, nor does it even dwell within its borders, thus His Lordship wishes to ask the Knights of the Table the following; Should the killing of a crowdrake whose existance does not threaten the Kongzem be allowed by the Order of the Crow? Lord Konstanz wishes for the Knight’s Table to make a decision so that he may proceed with his Quest without the fear of facing possible punishment for the killing of what could be seen as a symbol of the Kongzem and the royal family. GOTT MIT UNS His Princely Lordship, Konstanz Barclay, Baron of Sigradz, Squire of the Order of the Crow
  18. Cheers were heard from the Baron of Sigradz' room as he was finally given a personal invitation to a wedding.
  19. Konstanz Barclay went for a ride through the Reinmaren countryside, the sun hitting his face as he hummed the tune to one of his favourite bard's personal creations.

  21. LETTER TO THE ROYAL DUMA ON THE BARONY OF RICHTENBURG Issued By THE BARON OF SIGRADZ On this14th of Grona & Droba 422 E.S VA BIRODEO HERZENAV AG EDLERVIK, The Barony of Richtenburg is in a precarious situation as of late. While the passing of the Baron and Baroness is a tragic event, in the wake of their deaths the question of who shall inherit the title fails to be soundly answered. With the heir apparent Lord Viorel Luceafaru nowhere to be found and Lady Sorina’s mental state in jeopardy, as well as the title’s future as elector of the Waldenic Diet in question, the Baron of Sigradz wishes to present this topic to His Majesty’s Royal Duma so that an official recommendation about the title’s next path be available for the Crown as soon as possible. At the time of writing, His Lordship Konstanz Barclay sees three possible futures for the title of Richtenburg, each of them as follows: I The title is passed to Her Ladyship, Lady Sorina Luceafaru, regardless of her mental state. While Lady Sorina is of questionable mental stability at this time, with the absence of Lord Viorel, the current law of succession deems her as the next in line for the title. With this option, the title would remain within the Luceafaru family and shall pass on to Lady Sorina’s next of kin, should she produce any. As well as this, due to the Waldenian roots of the family through the late Baron, House Luceafaru would retain their position as an elector of the Waldenic Diet. II As the next closest relation accounted for to the deceased Baron, Lady Theodosya Barclay inherits the Barony of Richtenburg. Should the first option not be deemed a suitable choice by the Royal Duma, or should Lady Sorina not wish to inherit the Barony of Richtenburg, then it is suggested that the title be passed to Lady Theodosya Barclay, the late Baron Elimar’s niece, as the closest relation whose presence in the Kingdom can be accounted for. To prevent House Barclay holding two separate holdings within the Kingdom, the Baron of Sigradz suggests the following options: Lady Theodosya Barclay and her spouse Ser August Barclay shall form their own cadet branch of House Barclay and House Mondblume, thus inheriting the Barony of Richtenburg as a landed title to be passed down through their next of kin and retaining the title’s right as electors of the Waldenic Diet. The Barony of Richtenburg is granted to Lady Theodosya Barclay as a titular title with no holdings attached, to be passed down through their next of kin. In this scenario, the Waldenic Diet would vote on the eligibility of the title holder as an elector at the next meeting. III With no other suitable heirs to inherit the title, the Barony of Richtenburg is absorbed by the Crown. The history of the inheritance of the Barony of Richtenburg is already a complex one, despite the young history of the title. In its 4 previous Barons, only one, Lord Sigmar Mondblume, inherited the title by birthright, with Lord Yvo and Lord Elimar being granted the titles as the closest relations accounted for. In the current state of House Luceafaru, it may be wise to cease such a complicated affair by way of the Crown absorbing the Barony of Richtenburg, to be held onto either until the historic title holders of House Mondblume or House Luceafaru prove themselves worthy of the title once more, or otherwise to be held onto permanently. The Baron of Sigradz trusts that as His Majesty’s official body of government, the Royal Duma may come to an agreement about their ideal future for the Barony of Richtenburg so as to put an end to the shaky history of the title. GOTT MIT UNS His Princely Lordship, Konstanz Barclay, Baron of Sigradz

  23. Konstanz Barclay was quite the happy bartender that night, his pockets jingling with the coins the Lord Alban had exchanged. Having gotten quite deep in a few bottles himself, the Baron seemed to write a play of some sort, drunkenly walking towards Matyas whilst doing so "Get over here lad, it's nicht going to write itself!" he'd yank the Hearsay from him before quickly reading through it's contents, slowly returning his gaze upon the heartbroken man while chucking the page filled with Haeseni gossip away "Well, du could've done it with someone ein lot worse, in fairness."
