  1. ‘If my vessel were to break, what sound would it make?’ The question had led her on this journey, but her stubbornness to find its answer had paved a much more difficult path. Though the years spent alone after so much grief had done her well to heal. To forget. To bury. When she returned, Irulan was determined to have put it all behind her and be done with it. A moment of reward was given as the young Herald rested upon the seat of the world. One more mountain bested. The Herald considered the grazed flesh on her hands and felt the sweat and ash that clung to her forehead. But it was the cool wind that she basked in, golden eyes turning outward to the world below. From here, above the clouds, she felt like she could see it all. Storms that flashed in the distance, but would never greet her with their thunder or rain. Rivers that charged paths through valleys and meadows, vanishing into old woods. Perhaps they, too, could not see her. Irulan was alone on the mountain, but did not feel lonely. She had come seeking answers. In a world that saw so much suffering, how could it ever be at peace as it was here? Hearing no answer, she rose to depart, but an idea dawned in the back of her mind which gave her pause. Her eyes swelled like embers renewed, and the skin of each finger blackened as though charring. Splitting through her pallid flesh, gold and ashen heraldry of Alemdrom came alight with a tumultuous fire. A single word fled her throat a moment before she heard an unfamiliar voice echo over the mountainscape. And as smoke of Az’Uznath snarled around her and obscured her vision, her mind opened. Irulan stood upon the peak of an altogether different mountain. One that steeped inward, with her teetering at its edge. ɴᴏʟ ꜱʜᴀ ᴠᴜʟʙᴇʏᴛ ᴢᴜᴅ ᴀʟᴏᴋ ᴢᴜᴅᴋᴏꜱ ɢᴏʀ ɴᴀᴜᴡᴀ ʜɪʜ . . . How long has it been? Irulan didn’t know where she was, or how she got here. She stumbled through a shrouded place of smoke. Only the occasional flickering of embers gave light enough to see by. The very air here enclosed around her, threatening to smother her alive. Her head whipped left and right. In the darkness, always where she had come from, or where she could have been. If she turned to them, she began to hear the stirrings of a sound in the dark. There. Just beyond her sight, a deep and angry burning. A long suppressed noise that she knew well - all did - but often chose to ignore. She longed to escape this path. Pressing her palms firmly against her ears, Irulan pressed forward, stumbling across incoherent and barren terrain. She could hear it in the crackling fire that raged toward her, concealed by darkness. She could feel it in the thrumming of her heart; in the rushing of blood in her veins. She could see it with her own stinging eyes, all around her. Taste it through choking breaths as hot smoke filled her lungs. It was everywhere, this screaming. The flames would be upon her, and then she would be screaming too. Agony, it screamed. Agony. Agony! It was everywhere, all at once. A burning, raging scream. Irulan could no longer tell its origin. It burned away her insides, burrowing through her. Desperate to make its path, and be free. And still, she felt her feet drag. One after the other. Still she held her charred and blackened hands against her ears, desperate to hide away from the sound of all she had known melting away. All she had been sloughing off her blackened bones. Here there was no reprieve. She could only endure it as it sought to sear its way inside her. A hateful touch which stripped her away and revealed the truth. There was no choice but to endure all the suffering she had stifled away. The screams of fallen friends, fallen foe. The wailing of the family she had failed to protect. Irulan felt the rage she had let boil and then simmer. She mourned, for times that she had not. Irulan pushed forward, dragging herself along the blackened, rocky terrain. She no longer bothered with covering her ears. An incoherent noise which slipped between the bones of her charred hands. Curiosity still remained as she paused in her struggle to consider the stone in her grasp. Even stone burned, it seemed. But here I am.. Irulan thought. I still remain. ᴀᴅᴀᴀʀ ʜɪʜᴀɴ ʀᴜᴢ ꜱᴋʀɪᴛ. ᴅʀᴀᴀʟ ɴɪꜱ ᴀᴀʟ ᴍᴀʜ ɴᴀᴜᴡᴀ ᴅᴏᴍ. Her heart still did beat. Beneath the pain, and above the screams, she drew breath. In the smoke formed the ashen face of a Prophet glaring down on her. His familiar voice shook her into action. Rage, it bellowed. Rage! As Irulan rose to her feet, choking against the oppressive darkness, she felt a surge of validation. Rage from within, pressing out against this assault against her in a roar of her own. A sound that came not from her lungs, but her soul - splitting apart, fusing, splitting apart. In the silence between, there was some melody. Then, as if it had been waiting, the ground beneath her feet gave way and she fell into an abyss. She fell and fell and fell. All that could be seen were flashes of hot red and gold in the pitch black. The walls of a chasm advanced upon her at both sides at an unnerving speed. Irulan twisted in the air before she crashed against the rock wall. The impact sent her careening backwards, bouncing off the opposing crag before smashing into the ground. She felt the cracks in her mortal vessel splinter. Slag shed from a hot iron. Ceramic shards slipping out of place, the mosaic lost. Words burned inside her. A voiceless roar that swelled in her heart and spilled into her throat. A fire that hungered. That would not be snuffed out. It was.. Rage. Rage to live. To fight for that life. She lay there, tumbling stones and a sky of falling fire crashed upon her, and she let it. Her eyes opened and gazed upward within a blazing vortex. Her heart thundered. “I must...” she raged, “I must endure.” Rage and agony gave way to a blissful epiphany. Above formed a mote of light that tore through the darkness, gazing downward. It split and fractured across the sky as an enormous fissure, unveiling all she had known. All that she was. All that she had been. All that she must become. Cracking, fusing, unfusing. Irulan felt herself let go. Allowed herself to hear. For the screams to feast upon her mind and soul. An outstretched hand that lofted skyward melted into a golden jet of flame. A light piercing sickening darkness. And as the roaring fires that speared outward from within the shell that she was, Irulan finally heard it. Once a grating thing that pressed upon her sanity. It was a wondrous roar. A truth that scolded her. That eroded her to bone and ash and left only her soul within bare. Moments of agony and rage and joyous laughter intertwined together in song, and thousands more to join her own across the ages. "I am the enduring flame, my vessel destroyed and remade a thousand times each moment.” ɴᴜꜱᴛ ᴡᴏ ᴍɪɴᴅᴏʟ ɴᴀᴜ ᴠᴏꜱ ɴᴜꜱᴛ ꜱᴀᴋʜᴏ ꜰᴇɴᴛ ɴᴇʜ ʀᴏɴᴏᴋ ꜱʜᴀ ᴍɪɪʀ ꜱᴇ ᴠᴏꜱ ɴᴜꜱᴛ ꜰᴇɴ ʙᴇʏᴛᴇᴋ Z U D S E Y S H A G A A N E K | Y O L O S Z U D K O S O R U N A L V O T Voth zudkos uundur zud haalvut aan velek, Aan orun lingrah vaazkur. 3. Yelena clung to a shade-piece hat as she stepped into the narrow office. Featureless red-violet eyes scanned the walls, where countless designs and writings were pinned. An incomplete mural. Years of his work, no doubt. She held one page of parchment between two lithe fingers, read over the writings, and then snagged it free from the wall. ‘Vhere’ are you now, friend, but a place beyond light? Beyond claim. I should envy you of this. They shall reach for you and shall fail.’ As though she were a passing eclipse before an immense voidal light, Yelena upturned her hands and swept the room in anguished flames. Hungrily, they devoured upon the papers and unfinished wonders. Smoke rose to blacken the red-timber ceiling into a dark sky. And as that darkness choked out all light, Yelena vanished from the burning office with a snap of imploding voidal energy. ‘As here we burn, soon so too shall you.’
  4. Blows my mind that anybody has more than one thanhium item.. Anyway check out my arsenal of 1 billion arcanium items
  5. Not a Kani user so mainly just curious here. But what is the reason for removing the redline for thanhium and auric oil while abjuration (which works the same way) still remains? Quality of life stuff is always nice and tidy, you love to see it.
  6. … Buying bread from a Mori in Azuras He was 5’0’’-6’2’’ and bore a strength comparable to all of Malin’s progeny. I said, "Do you speak-a my language?" He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite Sandwich

  8. A bewildered Irulan retreated into the back of her chair as her husband burst in spouting his madness. In her befuddlement, even she had some measure of wisdom this morning. ".. Of course it is- wizards spouting nonsense are the reason the rest of us end up burned at the s- wait, what?" @BonesOfTheEarth
  9. Irulan patrolled the clearing in the days that followed the hunt. The bodies of victims had since been burned, the cultists discarded. The scene of blood and rot had now gone altogether, and a calm had fallen upon the valley. She sat upon root, solemn eyes cast down the embankment to where those zealots had thrown themselves so readily upon steel. The arbalest hung loosely from her belt, and she smiled, recalling how swiftly one had fallen prey to a very lucky shot.
  10. This looks and reads amazing! Clearly a lot of love poured into it.
  11. Somewhere overlooking Vallagne, now chained, Irulan chuckled to herself. With a tree at her back, and a chilly wind battering upon her, she bit from an apple, still grinning as she read the missive. "Hah.. Null and Void. Clever." Then she let the missive burn up in her fingers, and returned to her business.
  12. Natural Extraction: Nascence The desert is a harsh place where few things survive, and fewer flourish. Only the hardiest and most adapted descendants, after centuries of strife, can confidently call it their home. Much is the same for the flora of these places, including naturally growing reagents. Harsh climate and brutal conditions open up a process of Natural Extraction; eroding, drying and then scattering organic material and minerals to the desert winds, worked down to an accumulation of their most fundamental alchemical symbols. This is one part of a cyclical, seasonal process. One as old as the world itself - its boons revealed true only under an alchemical lens. Natural Extraction, or the erosion of reagents and minerals, occurs over decades if not centuries. For its potential to be unlocked, an alchemist must first identify the symbols contained within and refine Nascence through alchemical extraction, filtering the desired substance from unwanted sediment. Nascence [Beetroot Soup] Very Rare Sign(s): Aether | Air Symbol(s): Agility (3), Clarity (2), Separation (2), Vigour (1) Appearance: A dusty powder of many psychedelic hues, which shift from one to the next as it is sieved through. A gentle fume rises from the powder at any given moment, rich with the aroma of bitter cinnamon. Location: Deserts, Desert Caves, Subterranean Springs Harvesting: Nascence can be harvested typically by sieving deposits, netting airborne clouds with Nascence Sails, or evaporating liquid sources. Gloves or tools are recommended to avoid staining the skin, and face covers to avoid accidental inhalation and overdosage. Raw Effect(s): If ingested by inhaling or digested raw, Nascence can open the mind to mild auditory and visual hallucinations. It is believed to assist in the natural healing process of the body, enhancing water retention and improving mental aptitude. For this reason, many choose to mix raw Nascence with food to dilute its effects to be more palatable. Nascence can also be burned with incense to produce a more mellowed high. Nascence is addictive and rich with alchemical symbols and signs. Sustained use leads to the staining of the skin on the extremities, lips, tongue, nose and eyes. Halting use can lead to withdrawals which can cause dehydration, disorientation and confusion. Redlines: Origin It is difficult to pin down a definitive description of Nascence, or whether natural extraction occurs in other climates. It is, however, surely linked to the mundane cyclical process of growth and decay in the natural world. Where it has been observed are in arid, hot environments such as deserts, mesa, and wastelands. Here, it can be described as an extremely fine sand or powder that smells and tastes of bitter cinnamon spice. When sieved, raw Nascence will shift in visible hues. At one stage it may appear a sunburnt orange and then the next oasis blue. This is due to its composition of many compatible materials, eroded down to their most fundamental symbols, ready for an alchemist to identify and extract. Depending on the climate, these deposits typically take the form of dust clouds scattered to the wind, buried deposits, or even subterranean pools trapped beneath the sand and stone. History speaks of Nascence with tales of desert skies violent with rich colors, a smoky haze blotting the sun, the scent of cinnamon in the air, and the voices of ancestors whispering over the sands. Nascence is most commonly found on the erosive desert winds, scattered over the dunes. The trained alchemist can learn to identify its path and locate resting places where large quantities have gathered or been trapped. Large deposits on sand are particularly formidable to the untrained eye. Nascence is so fine that to stand on it would be similar to falling into a silo of grain. Surrounding sand and soil may give way altogether, forming a sinkhole into larger subterranean systems. Where water has accumulated within rock or beneath the sands, trapped Nascence can become saturated and form pools of syrup-like liquid; the well preserved bones and corpses of the unfortunate strewn beneath the psychedelic-hued depths. Nascence is extremely dry, and will take to moisture easily. Excess water will certainly dilute its hallucinogenic properties but there would need to be a significant amount of liquid to completely nullify all of its effects. When exposed to living creatures, Nascence induces a variety of effects which have solidified its cultural and medicinal significance in regions where it is most common. Nascence is a powerful hallucinogen which can be ingested raw, digested in food, or refined into more concentrated variants. It is most commonly used for its potential to open the mind to hallucination and visions, and enhance dexterity. Perhaps thanks to its addictive nature, it is a staple in regional diets. Harvesting & Refining Deposits of Nascence are notoriously difficult to track down and harvest regardless of whether they are above or beneath the surface. Nascence is a hallucinogen, and so exposure to it during harvest certainly presents its own unique complications. Nascence caught in the wind as a cloud is difficult to harvest, but must eventually settle somewhere. Once a deposit has been located and identified, it can be sieved with a special instrument designed to separate granules of dust and sand from Nascence. Alternatively, a Nascence Sail could be constructed as a net for large clouds. Liquid Nascence is just over-saturated and while it retains its preservative properties, most of its other side-effects are significantly dulled. Large liquid deposits, such as in underwater caverns or lakes can be so dilute they are almost indistinguishable save for tell-tale signs like chromatic hues on the surface. It does, however, remain sacred or of particular importance to certain cultures. Once collected, it must be evaporated and then dried to return it to its base state. Subsequently, Nascence could be combined with aqua vitae and distilled to produce a high-concentrated variation. This technique is very rare, and not likely known by the common alchemist. Nascent Alchemy Nascent Concentrate T3 | Very Rare (Nascent Induced Invigoration) Raw Nascence can be saturated in aqua vitae and distilled to produce a high-concentrated variation which when consumed produces a refined array of powerful side-effects. Nascent Invigoration does have an effect on the physical state of those consuming high concentrations. Provided they are disciplined enough to be able to balance the potent mental effects, one would experience a temporary boost in their reflexes. Once the mind is open in this way, a person may become perceptively and reflexively aware of changes in their environment. In exchange, the user becomes intrinsically more vulnerable to sources of fear or confusion such as voidal illusions and visions. This is also to suggest that the person who is intoxicated with Nascence may be more easily distracted or misled in general, becoming intrinsically more gullible as the walls of their reality melt away. As such, Nascent Concentrate remains primarily useful for rituals and ceremonies. Once the effects of the invigoration wear off, the user is left feeling tired and mentally drained. Subsequent use must be delayed, unless the consumer wishes to risk a mental break or cardiac arrest. The rate of addiction in those who ingest concentrate are also much higher, and the effects of withdrawal more devastating - the mind and body desiring to return to its invigorated state; developing a dependence on raw nascence thereafter. 13. Desert Flora Whether it be in the vast sandy deserts, craggy mesa, or dry savannah’s - these places formidable to descendants are teeming with only the sturdiest forms of life. They thrive much the same as any other place, written upon the world with the very same material language as any other. Flora such as Desert Cacti, Drakes Tail, Berry Bush, Goblins Ivy and Zawabate are well documented in these regions, and more left behind on other realms. Nestled away beneath crag, steadfast before the burning sun, or thirsting from far down water swallowed by vast sand-dunes. Life which has been documented here is essential to the wider ecosystem. Where Descendants must suffer to endure, these ancient, native plants have come to thrive. Across time, the innate gifts concealed within each plant have enabled Descendants to call the desert their home. Burrow Bush [Dead Bush] Rare Sign(s): Earth Symbol(s): Growth (3), Strength (1), Impediment (2), Endurance (2) Location: Deserts and sandy coastal areas. Harvesting: This reagent is not easily acquired and cannot be ripped out of the ground easily. The sand around the root-system must first be excavated before using alchemical shears. Sanjeevani, or otherwise aptly named: Burrow Bush, is a spindly brown plant which grows in deep sands or sheltered dunes. Its roots run exceptionally deep, able to reach into the earth in search of water trapped beneath sand and stone. Burrow Bush is a larger and more wiry plant than its relative the Barrier Bush. It is found in hotter environments than its sibling plant. Patches of Burrow Bush can stretch for large distances, and help maintain the structure of sand-dunes by catching sand as it blows across the landscape. It is a hardy plant, able to retain water within its root system to provide sustenance throughout the hottest seasons. Descendants of the desert often grow Burrow Bush around their villages to protect against dust and sand, and to harvest those roots as a viable source of pure water. Traditional alchemists have been said to grind down those dried roots into a milky paste, known for its ability to absorb and retain moisture. The paste is primarily used as part of funeral rites, capable of slowing the decay of corpses and the effects of rot. Thorny Devil [Cactus] Uncommon Sign(s): Water Symbol(s): Coldness (3), Reduction (1), Endurance (2) Location: Dry, hot and sunny climates such as deserts, mesa, savannah or otherwise any place with ample sunlight. Harvesting: Alchemical shears can be used to sever the succulent entirely from the ground which can then be re-potted/relocated to an appropriate environment. The external layer of the leaves are easily peeled away by hand to reveal the pulp within. This spiky green succulent grows around the base of crags and outcroppings. They come in various sizes, depending on the fertility of soil and access to water, but always remain reminiscent of a thorny, reptilian hide. Trapped with its protective skin is a clear, gelatinous pulp, which is known for its health benefits. Without much effort, the leaf can be snapped to free the gel within, which can then be applied directly to skin to alleviate pain and expedite healing from minor irritations like sun-burns. It is edible too, colloquially known as Shining Bitters; often incorporated into diets to improve digestion and general health. Sunbird Palm [Weeping Vines] Uncommon Sign(s): Fire Symbol(s): Courage (1), Burning (2), Light (2) Location: These palms are native to deserts as one of the only thriving trees of its size, and bearing fruit. Where Sunbird Palms are located, so too will water be somewhere beneath the surface, drinking great amounts of water each day. Harvesting: Sunbird Palms are fibrous and can be chopped down efficiently with a blade such as a machete. Flowerpods harvested contain the seeds which can be used to plant new palms in appropriate environments, but stain the hand with red and leave a harmless burning sensation on bare skin.. Dates are easily picked by hand when ripe. A palm tree exclusive to the arid desert regions, known for its crimson red vines and edible dates - infamously delicious, glossy and golden. It can reach heights of 15-30 metres with a fibrous trunk and a crown of jagged leaves. Each tree drinks each day the equivalent of five men, often appearing near a decent water source such as natural springs, oasis or lakes. Throughout the long lifespan of these trees, the palm often flowers fiery-hued blossoms. Its petals are saturated with rich pollen which stains the trunk red and can be used as a natural dye. It is believed that the trees absorb the fires of the desert sun, so that it might radiate a sunset-hued luminescence in the hour that follows sunset. This gentle light does not persist, but remains a final standing reminder of the day's scorching radiance. Desert Mouse [Moss Carpet] Common Sign(s): Water Symbol(s): Endurance (3), Growth (1), Order (1) Location: Typically grows in barren, shallow-sediment environments with access to shade such as fissures, canyons, crags, and cliffsides. Harvesting: Similar to a bed of moss, a blade can be slid beneath Desert Mouse to remove large patches. Individual flowers can be picked by hand. With an uncanny resemblance to desert mice, this bed of springy verbena flowers grows wild upon rocky outcrops and high-reaching crags. It has been known to totally carpet cliff sides and fissures with brilliant hues of orange and green and yellow. Its round, ear-shaped leaves curl gently to capture and retain moisture in the air and allow it to thrive in the harshest, driest environments. It is an extremely common desert flower, favored in gardens for its low maintenance. Unattended, Desert Mouse is a weed and will smother other plants to survive, but can provide moisture to the flowerbed if pruned frequently. Feathergrass [Feather] Common Sign(s): Air Symbol(s): Grace (1), Slowness (2), Curtailment (3) Location: Sunny, exposed areas with ample sunlight and nearby water. Harvesting: Stems can be pulled free from the plant when matured Commonly growing in places where the desert sands meet the sea, or otherwise around a body of water, these tall grassy plants thrive in well drained, rocky soils. Fibrous stems rise from arching white leaves topped with feathery flowerheads. Their seeds, littered throughout these wispy flowers, are plenty. They are spread by wind and animals and provide natural barriers to erosive winds. Feathergrass is especially durable and can grow in various climates. It is often favored by dwellers of the desert and woven together to create Nascence Sails; particularly effective at trapping Nascence carried on the breeze. Mature feathergrass is typically hardy like flax, and can be harvested as such for its fibres to produce clothing, mats, baskets, ropes, bird snares, lashings, fishing lines and nets. Incense Bush [Stick] Uncommon Sign(s): Aether Symbol(s): Purity (1), Burning (2), Endurance (1), Peace (2) Location: Deserts, rocky outcrops, savannahs. Harvesting: Resin is extracted from the tree, allowed to harden before it can be burned as incense. Dried leaves and bark can be ground into powder, packed with resin and then burned for a more distinct aroma. A far rarer shrub which grows in dry, hot environments. It is more akin to a miniature tree, with twisting trunks and angular, dark-green leaves. Incense is not exclusive to the desert by any means, but Incense Bush is. It is distinct from other known incense by its appearance and unique aromatic resin. Incense Bush leaves have been used for centuries to cultivate incense; favored by shamans, healers, druids, and clerics alike. The effects of burning incense is well-documented by descendants across time. Incense releases fragrant smoke which dulls anxieties and is said to calm spirits. While it is most often used in religious and spiritual rituals, it also serves a popular household staple for people all across the world. Irrwurz Lily [Lilypad] Very Rare Sign(s): Water Symbol(s): Poison (3), Impediment (2), Lethargy (3) Location: Temperate climates, notably swamps, tepid marshlands, oasis. Harvesting: Alchemical shears are used to sever the Lily before it blossoms, separating bulb from stem. Found only in swamps and desert oasis, the Irrwurz is a poisonous lily with vast-spreading vines which entangle and suffocate stagnant water. Often where the Irrwurz grows, little other flora thrives. Irrwurz flourishes by feeding on the decay of unfortunate prey who stumble into its domain. The actual lily blossoms atop a network of buoyant vines and pads, expelling an intoxicating fume into the air which attracts small animals such as reptiles, birds, rodents, and insects. Enticed creatures drown in the water, becoming ensnared and disoriented in the submerged tangle of vines. For Descendants, the true danger they face may well be the other predators who stalk the tangled waters. While resistant to the intoxicating fumes, descendants may still be tempted toward them. Other creatures that are resistant to the fumes, such as snakes and carnivorous fish, feed on decay and attack those larger creatures who draw too close to the place where the Irrwurz holds dominion.
