  1. -=The Dwarven Clans=- The dwarven clans or "familes" are blood related groups of dwarves. Clans MUST be made of blood related members, very rarely will you find a non blood related family friend in the clan. [so if you want to recruit for your clan, say that you found them in your old family records so they are of your bloodline.] These groups of blood related dwarves from the entirety of the Kingdom of dwarves. The Clans of the dwarves make up the foundation of dwarven society. Everything and all things are centered around the clans, the people. The clans are separated into three groups; noble clans, commoner clans, and elder clans. The noble clan fathers are the leaders of the kingdom, each having a spot on the high council. Being of the noble clans holds little perks besides the wealth of the clan. Most power, in dwarven society, is gained through personal endevours rather than being of blood-line. In order for a commoner clan to be inducted into the noble clans, the lower clan must repeatedly prove itself to the kingdom and it's dwarves. This would take many years, possibly generations. Commoner clans are many through out the kingdom of dwarves. Their numbers variety between different clans as well as holds the bulk of the population in the dwarven kingdom. The elder clans are clan that where once noble but have faded back into history and have lost a considerable amount of members. These old, but not forgotten, clans are honored with the title of elder. They are held in the same respect as the nobles just without the political power. -=Dwarven Psychology=- Earning of Dwarven Friendship: Dwarves are stubborn, uneasy, and possibly the most difficult race to befriend. Although, once friendship is earned, it is strong lasting through many ages. These short folk are naturally suspicious of others, slow to trusting, especially if the individual is outside of the clan. Dwarves usually suspect the worst of an outsider, which has usually worked in their favor. This kind of treatment will usually continue until the outsider proves his good will many times, usually in combat over many years. Once friendship is won, the word loyalty arises. For the dwarves, the word loyalty should be both valued and rewarded. It is believed amongst dwarves to be a gift fighting side by side with friends in combat. Dwarves are a very trusting race of their friends and expect the same trust in return. An old saying for dwarves to describe the gaining of a friendship is, "The difference between an acquaintance and a friend is about a hundred years." Deep Grudges: Seeing as dwarven trust among friends goes deeper than any mine, a betrayal of such a trust lasts a lifetime as a grudge. Grudges can occur on an individual basis, dwarf to dwarf, or across entire races. However, not all grudges stem from a friend's betrayal. Grudges can occur from warfare between two groups. An example of such a grudge could be seen from the many "Dwarf and Orc wars." The Proud Race: Dwarves have a great pride in many things they do as they are a very proud race. Their great halls, carved out of hewn stone, is a common thing you might hear a dwarf boasting about. Clan pride is another great pride that the dwarves hold in high regard. Although, this kind of pride has proven troublesome in the past, causing much feuding between the clans. All dwarves, no matter what clan, are proud of their ancestors, namely the Paragons. These dwarves of old have achieved the highest honor among their races, making them exalted by all. Other things the dwarves are proud of are; their ability to drink, combat prowess, smithing, wealth, tradition, and engineering. Sacred Honor: This is perhaps the single most important thing to a dwarf, his honor. If such a thing was taken from him or his clan, then the dwarf would do anything in his power to return the lost honor. To have honor is to keep to your word, be respectful of your elders and others, do not thirst for blood, be loyal to your kinsdwarves, honor the gods and paragons, and never turn down a challenge. These values of dwarven honor follow through in almost every aspect of dwarven culture and life. Dwarves view on the Magic Arts: These brawny children of the stone detest magic to the highest degree. Dwarves have a great distrust for magic, being the one thing that they cannot explain or understand for themselves. Dwarves fear anything that they cannot physically control, therefore, magic in dwarvish society is unheard of. This is one category of knowledge that the dwarves are knowingly ignorant in and wish to keep it that way. -=Dwarves' view on other Races=- Humans: The relationships with the race of men, as a whole, have been shakey at best. With the constant switch of view with the ruling kings on the dwarves have made it very difficult to keep any lasting relationships. Even though the ruling kings haven't proven stable, there are still groups of humans that have kept up with their oaths. The dwarves see the humans as lusting for power and easily corruptible. The trusting of men has always been a difficult task for dwarves as the lifespan of men is relatively short compared to a dwarven one. This makes it difficult to have a long standing relationship when it takes longer to earn a dwarf's trust than the amount of years the human has to live. Elves: Commonly referred to as "twiggies" or "tree lovers," the elves love for the forest has become laughable to the dwarves. Even though the dwarves poke fun, the elves are perhaps the most reliable of the other races, even if they can just rely on them being neutral rather than war-like. Dwarves respect the large knowledge of the elves as well as their wise elders. Besides on an individual basis, not much political interaction has occurred between the two races. They both agree that solitude, as a race, is what they prefer. Orcs: Known as the great, green scourge of the sands, the orcs have long been an enemy of the dwarves, as these two races are constantly warring. These two war-like races have fought against each other numerous times. Although, as they fought, they learned much about the opposing race. They learned that they both carry the same ideals of honor and respect, usually just in warefare. However, many a times the orcs have broken such honor with each other as well as with the dwarves. This makes the dwarves very untrusting of them and give them a grudge that runs very deep. The dwarves see these "greenskins" as a vicious, bloodthirsty, and dishonorable race.

  3. After many days of reading and thinking, Bazian decides to call a council of his own. He sends out letters to each member of his council on the mountain. [Only these people are allowed to post: Bazian Grandaxe, Skath Grandaxe, Bruski Grandaxe, Morgrim Grandaxe, Hodor Grandaxe, Hogarth Celestine, Grumdul Grandaxe of Khaz'Verngaz] On the day of the meeting, the council dwarves sit impatiently in their chairs at the great feasting hall. Bazian is the last to arrive, opening the entrance doors he marches in. A small, servant dwarf scurries behind him carrying many papers. Bazian sits upon his throne and begins to speak. "Ah 'ave called t'is meetin' ov councildwarves fer un purpose. Me friends 'nd kinsdwarves, ah 'ave come into ah great deal ov knowledge ov toimes passed." He nods to the smaller dwarf which quickly distributes scribed copies of the various reports. As the copies are being passed out, bazian continues to speak. http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/51103-sent-yaikte-jegaaz/ "T'ese reports ov ah culture known as th' "Dervas" w'ere forged by ah lad named Kiror Yemerdorn. 'e was commissioned by th' ol' King Broski Braveaxe to dig up ol' Dervas ruins." Bazian sits back in his throne as he watches the council dwarves' eyes dart back and forth, reading the copied reports. "As yah can see, t'is lad uncovered our very own elden culture once lon' lost. It beh meh belief, t'at durin' th' long wars wit' th' orcs in Aegis, weh sum'ow lost t'is culture, t'is very essence ov dwarven loife. T'ese dervas folk managed ter keep it aloive, seein' as t'ey left befer th' great wars." Bazian pauses for a moment to allow for that which he had just said to sink in. He takes a swig of his mug to keep him awake, seeing has he has lost much sleep in the past few days. "Th' only problem was, t'ey culd not keep t'emselves aloive. As th' Yemerdorn lad says, t'is explains th' empty city ov Karik 'nd 'ow it was made." Bazian takes a deep breath before declaring. "Ah wish ter reviove our lon' lost culture 'nd brin' it back ter th' dwarven people!" He sits back and awaits the replies of his kinsdwarves.
  4. The only problem is... no one plays them. I wouldn't have a problem if there was a couple dwarves playing this subrace, but I don't think they have a single one.
  5. [Like what plans? If no one is going to RP them, there is no point in keeping them around.]
  6. [A new replacement for the forest dwarf will only separate us more.]
  7. [You did post on the notice board, that was in your own fault if you wished to keep it a secret. Personally, I don't have any problems with you guys rebuilding the city OOC or RPly. My char is only worried about the repercussions on a religious matter, that is why he wants to consult with the clergy before moving ahead with this. We are not against you Cloaked, try not to jump to conclusions. ;) ]
  8. Hearing word of this, Bazian quickly writes a response to be headed to Hiebe of Kal'Dwain. "Cavedwelling Lord of Kal'Dwain, Leader of the Ironguts, Hiebe. I write to you for I have caught word of talks about rebuilding the drake wrought halls of Kal'Karik. This must not be done with haste. We must cease all rebuilding of the city before we hold council with the leader of the Clergy. We must not anger the gods with the treading on grounds such as these." Signed, Mountain Lord Bazian Grandaxe
  9. [it seems as the forest dwarves have run their course, they will most likely be taken out without a replacement if agreed on by the playerbase. If anyone has an objection, please state it.]
  10. [is there still anyone that still wishes to see the Forest Dwarves remain as apart of the dwarven subraces?]
  11. [it's not a book :P, its a series of reports by Gaius' old dwarven character given to Broski when he was king. Here's the thread. http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/51103-sent-yaikte-jegaaz/ ] Nothing is heard from the Mountain Lord for many days. Only a few servants have seen him only to slip food through the door. Sometimes the dwarven lord can be seen up top his keep, in the night, whilst the wind caresses his long, old beard... Bazian sleeps, slumped over in his chair with his beard as a slight cushion for his face. A loud snort wakes him, slowly, he rises his head. Rubbing his eyes, Bazian takes a quick gulp of the mug of ale sitting on the desk. His eyes widen and he perks up, seeming to rejuvenate him. He looks down at his desk which is covered in scattered papers of notes and reports. "T'ere is so much t'at weh did nay know befer er at least forgotten." Bazian mutters to the open, silent air. The old dwarf gathers all the papers and forms a neat pile in the center of his desk. Slowly rising from his chair as it creaks, he drags his feet over to his bed and lays down for the night.
  12. Bazian sighs as ever since he has returned, there has been nothing but from war to peace then right back to war the very next day. He rests his hand on the bars, looking out to the sweeping grasslands that surrounds Anart. He thinks to himself, "So much dis'onorable war.. frum th' orcs.. frum th' Black Cross.. even frum ourselves." He jumps a bit as there is a hard knock at the door. Taking a deep breath, Bazian calls back, "'ey, w'at yah want?" In a grumpy tone. A muffled sound is hear through the doors but Bazian can still make out the words. "Ma Mountain Lord! News frum th' construction site at Ire!" Bazian's eyes widen a bit and yells out, "Come on in den!" The shorter cave dwarf, covered in a thin layer of dirt, treds into the room. He looks straight at Bazian as he walks in. Bazian turns and watches the dwarf as he begins to talk. "Ol' reports 'ave been foun' Ma lord. Reports made ter th' elden king Broski frum ah..." Says the name slowly as if he is saying it for the first time. "Ki..ror.. Yem..erdor. It says 'ere t'at 'e was commitioned by th' ol' king ter excavate sum ruins near Khaz." A frown dawns on Bazian's face as if he had his hopes up for a moment. "Bah! Dere beh no ruins dere! Ah 'ave ruled dere amon' Broski, no word was sent ter meh." A little hesitant, the cave dwarf says in rebuttel. "If ah may.. ma lord.." He hands the reports to Bazian, which he rips from the cave dwarf's hands and begins to vigorously read over them. With every passing word, the expression on the old dwarf's face turn more optimistic. His eyes grow wider and wider, darting back and forth between the tightly bound parchments. He takes a brake and takes the reports away from his eyes, holding them in his time wrought hands. "Yah.. may go lad, stay 'round 'dough. I will beh in need ov yah." The cave dwarf nods and walks out of the room. Bazian quickly strides over to his desk with his reports and begins to take notes on these pieces of forgotten history.
  13. Don't think there's much more we can expand on the lore since the armour already built.. The lore is pretty solid, there's a good amount of time put into it along with the roleplay that went along with it. http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/67504-reconstructing-the-armour/ I do admit that the whole, making of the armour was a bit rushed, but there is no denying that there is thought out lore to back it up.
  14. The language is mainly used for naming places or things, sometimes with ritualistic chants or songs. But besides that, it is not used for much.
  15. The Ironfists are much like the Grimaxes but to the Ironguts in that respect.
  16. Updated: Added all aspects of the mega thread Added a tradition Began reformatting the thread Will add more as the work has been transferred from paper to the computer.
  17. I like to see the initiative put forth by you Skippy, good work.
  18. Feel free to take any part of this to work on. Most of the information I found in your two posts. :P Anyway, a lot of this can apply with the topic discussion of honor, it just needs to be organised to a state where it can be easily read by new dwarves and have the weight with in its words.
  19. [Added :P Also, in order to gather everyone's opinions of dwarves and our way of life, I would like to see your ideas of the subject matter. Below is a list of things that need to be explained for the fleshing out of our culture. If you are interested, pick one of the topics and write out how you think the dwarves would apply to that. Send it to me through a pm or just post it here in this thread. Things that need to be covered in the Culture section. Traditions Honor (Definition on how it relates to us) Architecture How we view magic How we view other races Different subrace culture Rituals (Anything besides burial techiques) Other work that needs to be written out. Engeneering and Scientific Feats Better explination of the govermental structure (More depth) A berief summery of Golems An elaboration on the differances between class on the Clan scale (Noble, commoner, elder) An explination on how we conduct war (I will work on this one) A more organised language (Just organisational work here) The history needs to be organised and cataloged
  20. No prebuilt cities end in terrible looking cities and tedious hours spent constructing a city without roleplay. Trust me, you want prebuilt cities.
  21. [Added to the Clan section in the Mega thread, as you where recognized by the noble clan, Ironguts.]
