I've been an Ascended for 'round a year now. Kinda wish I could RP some to celebrate it. Regardless, it's been a great run LotC, and I thank you all for making every day of it enjoyable. I hope I'm still here next year to celebrate once again.
If your blood was awakened, you could use ascended magic. The reason why you cannot use it, is because Aeriel left an decided to dis-allow her power to be channeled through mortal beings any longer. Well, from what I was told.
The awakening of the blood allowed for the use of magical powers, but did not strictly mean they could use their magical abilities. Those were gifted seperately by Aeriel, and had to be trained by other Ascended. I mean no offence Dsdevil, but I like to think I know this stuff.
