The Prince of Alstion smiled weakly as he sends his informant away, leaving him to promptly resume his stern contortion as he paces along the walls of Brandthof - was he not doing everything in his powers to ensure peace and stability throughout humanity? Doubt plagued the Prince's mind, was Acre not fully in his right to deal with as sovereign? What would bring these outlanders so far as to dance with the fate of an excommunicant? 

Yet when it was brought to him that the issue was being pressed nevertheless, what else could there be done? Certainly not allowing another partition of the land of his family, friends, and compatriots, nor be preyed subject to another bout of humiliation.

The Prince and Sovereign, however, took solace in the knowing that the Kingdom's subjects were united in this conviction of self-determinism - Aaun will not yet fall.

As it is so often prone, the history of Man this past century has been beset by no small amount of chaos and instability amidst the Heartlands. Since the corruption and collapse of the Holy Orenian Empire and its short-lived successor, we children of Exalted Horen have found ourselves mired in a ceaseless struggle to return to order and safety for those who wish to inhabit the Heartland realm without fear of reckless ambition and the wars it has bred. 

Indeed, it is this belief that drives that Kingdom of Aaun. From the bloody fallout of the Sinners’ War, the follies of the Kingdom of Oren, and the decay of the Harvest Confederacy, the men and women who call themselves Aaunic seek naught more than to rebuild their shattered homes, and to live with restored peace and dignity.  

I, as chosen Prince by the will of the Aaunic lords, shall devote my life and soul to the fulfilment of this dream. Already in our realm’s brief existence, we have faced challenges which made plain the need for the Kingdom of Aaun to break bread with its fellow Man, to lay aside all divisions and differences, to resolve all bickers and misconceptions, and to begin to pave a path to a peaceful and cooperative future.

In pursuit of this homeland restored, we seek no expansion, no glory, no treasure. We seek no historical triumphs written in blood, no harkening to the conquests of the past. It is with this in mind that I wish to begin the Kingdom of Aaun’s time of peace with a formal invitation to his Majesty Karl III, King of Hanseti-Ruska, to join me for a private state dinner within Castle Brandhof hosted by the Graf von Minitz, Sir Leon Barclay KRE, upon a date preferred by his court so that we might speak of our shared future as fellow Princes of Canondom, and of continued peace directly.

King Charles stood with hands fidgeting in some vain attempt to distract himself from the current discomfort, expression clearly unsettled as he was held in wait by the gate of Corwinsburg - clear in wait for a certain individual. His mind abuzz with thoughts; he was never a good father, ultimately, for after all, was it not him who abandoned his children to his divorced wife in Balian? To go off on some selfish undertaking eventually resulting in the formation of his Kingdom. At the time, he had convinced himself his ambitions was in part to create a better future for his family, but it was evidently disproven as he became consumed by his monarchist expectations - would his family simply not have been better off if he had just remained initially present in the raising of his own children? Wedged between duty and familial love.

Regardless, the imminent return of his firstborn washed away the doubt that had crept upon his countenance, a sense of fatherly pride now replacing such disturbance.

The doors of Corwinsburg swing wide open, and Charles for the first time in many years, smiles a true sun's smile.

"Azor is quite pleasant at this time of the year, isn't it?" A certain Charlie Charles Alstion quipped to his sister within the Minitz tavern, "Think I'll take the carriage to the Alps and pay these fine Azors a visit... Petrans? What's a Petran? Seems like a figment of your imagination, Sophia. I only know the Azors of Aaun, those who wont be cowed by petty threats or Novellen wiles."

Edict of the Five Offices

The Five: Structure and Organization

The Five serve as the provisional bodies of Crown governance until the establishment of the Royal Charter of Aaun, in which, as per the Crown’s deliberation, may be expanded upon to better fit the needs of a burgeoning realm. 

The Five remain reserved to the governance of the Crownlands primarily, and cooperate with the Provinces in regards to any of their relevant operations.

Ultimately, the Five operate only with the authority bestowed upon them by delegation of the Crown’s authority, and thus serve at the dictate of the Crown solely.

The Five shall hence be dubbed the ‘executive authorities’ and have been granted control of their governance to do so at the best of their capabilities and own initiatives. 

A Council consisting of the United Kingdom’s nobility shall remain as an advisory body to the Crown. Thus dividing the advisory into two classes, the Noble Council and the Five Offices - along with whatever auxiliaries requested by the Crown.

Office of the Seneschal

The Officer of the Seneschal is charged with the administration of the United Kingdom’s treasury and is granted the courtesy title ‘Chancellor of the Crownlands’. As the highest office of the Crown’s delegation of authority, they have become the Crown’s chief executive, and have been granted the right to act as the Crown would in totality. They shall, in this high authority, be the guiding hand for the rest of the offices to ensure collective success.

Office of Rites

The Officer of Rites, bearing the courtesy title ‘Master Almanac’, is chiefly responsible for the maintenance of the United Kingdom’s liturgical and secular calendars, as well as initiatives directing the revitalization of the Heartlands by way of royal and provincial programs - festivities, cultural affairs, tourneys, and so on.

Office of War

The Officer of War will bear the courtesy title ‘Royal Marshal’, and is charged with the defence of the United Kingdom’s royal territories in conjunction with the provincial nobility. Given the immediate lack of a Crownland army, the Office of War shall be tasked primarily with the assessment of the United Kingdom’s military capabilities as a whole, and will arrange the coordination of its forces in regards to wartime procurement of equipment.

Office of Restoration

The Officer of Restoration, bearing the courtesy title of ‘Grand Steward’, is responsible for the reestablishment of the Royal Capital foremost, and its subsequent revenue, which for now will remain the Ruined City of Vienne until otherwise. They shall then take upon the duties of that customary of a Grand Mayor, and administrate the Royal Capital as the Crown sees fit.

Office of the Peers

The Office of the Peers, bearing the courtesy title of ‘Lord Representative’, shall be tasked with representation of the United Kingdom’s peerage in direct communication with the Crown, ascertaining the evolving statuses of the provinces, and coordinate with its nobilities to best foster prosperity throughout the whole of the Kingdom.

Archbishop of Albarosa

Whilst the Church of the Canon remains the stewards of our spirituality, shunning aside the affairs of secularity, it cannot be dismissed that both aspects affect the others heavily. What cannot be tolerated is the supremacy of secularism over that of the spiritual, and thus, the Archbishop of Albarosa has been requested to maintain a part in the overseeing of the Kingdom’s executive affairs to best ensure that the Church’s agenda is not disrupted in any way by the decisions made by the Crown.

Charlie makes this face when he realizes his friend was forced to bend to the whims of his increasingly aging father who can no longer see friends from foe.

A certain Alstion peeked his head out from behind a mound of documents piling on his desk upon being informed of the latest decree of the Pontificate, "Wuh?" The Prince goes, as he does when taken aback by surprise. 

PIETY AND PENANCE 

TO HIS HOLINESS, PONTIAN IV

Our Kingdom of Aaun remains war-torn, spiraling once more into a new generation of strife. The once prosperous heartlands of Humanity forever scarred and changed. It has been in this environment that I have been accepting all of those pledging their arms to our cause, one specifically, Gawain Wick, or otherwise known as Siegmund Wick.

In my quickened naivety, I made no further inspections of its character, instead utilizing its uncanny ability to reshape ruins into shape - which should have been a first telling factor in any potential suspicions. Its true self remained hidden, it seems, by way of heavy clothing and armor, as well as incense to dispel his presumed stench. Who am I to deny assistance, when offered in trying times? For it seems even the Barony of Acre, who claims us to be inhibitors of evil, employs the dark forces themselves with full knowledge of such - as evident of its defense of de Vilain bridge a month ago. 

Further, we do reject the claims of the Baron de Vilain, that this undead Wick was that of the Nauzicans, no matter what may have been found, or planted, on its rotting corpse. A guard it was at time, but not of my familial Brigade, for we Nauzicans hold no measures of identification under my reign.

It has become, with the retirement of the Lectorate, and the exodus of clergy from that of the Heartland, that the Kingdom of Aaun lays bare to wiles of the undead, who prey on the discordance and death inflicted upon our land. Thus leading to their infiltration to this day.

Hence, I do prostrate myself to the will of the Holy Mother Church, and most desirably request the intervention of the holy inquisitors to ensure able testing of my population to root out the darkspawn of Iblees  - for it is the Prophet Owyn that the Kingdom of Aaun emulates, for Aaun was once His Kingdom, which he purified of apostasy.

In this failure to properly maintain the purity of my realm, I do most humbly request penance by whatever means, so that I may cleanse myself of my failings, and become a stronger man capable of warding away such despicable abominations.

Let the Flame of Owyn burn away the corruption plaguing our land.
