  1. Posted on roadsides and in cities is the following advertisement: Hail, craftsmen of Vailor; I seek a woodworker to help me craft an upright staff. I shall also need golden ingots. If you can do both, or just one of the two, send Heshakomeu Sohae a bird. Price shall be discussed. Blessings and safe travels, Heshakomeu Sohae
  2. Holy heck clam down y'all. Thanks for stepping in, Dan. We can discuss clerical morality and accepting past taint users later. If anybody has any constructive feedback on the lore, lemme know in the comments or via skype or PMs. Thus far, current stuff I need to add is: - Emote for blessing - Emote for warding What I'd like y'all opinion on is taint: - How I was taught, priests draw taint into their own body and purge it at great pain and effort for them, or draw it into a gem and have a war cleric purge it. However, we can change this to fit with how the rest of clerical healing works: clerics lower their light onto the taint and focus on burning it away. It would cause mild discomfort to the patient, like being too close to a heater, but wouldn't be agony or something that could effectively be used for torture or combat. Go.
  3. It was ripe for abuse, which is why I changed it so that disconnection is only able to be done if said cleric violates their patron's rules. If they do disconnect a cleric without patron permission, they'd be targeted for disconnection and their growth as a cleric would cease. However, it needs to be a learned spell. Personally, I'd prefer if clerics operated like monks, where a single transgression results in the immediate loss of connection on the spot (so I understand it), but it doesn't fit in with the rest of cleric or Aengudaemonic lore, where Tahariae has no direct control over what we do with our powers. Which is the same reason the method of disconnection you propose doesn't work. Cleric magic works through specific spells that require conceptual knowledge on the task at hand, not just a connection. If Tahariae doesn't take full control over tasks when we do healings, and the knowledge on how to do so doesn't come spontaneously to our minds, why would he with disconnection? All cleric magic is learned. It doesn't make much sense for a cleric to have spontaneous knowledge on how to do something unless Tahariae revealed it to them in a vision (i.e., Itharel having conceptual knowledge of all things cleric). So, yes, any powerful cleric CAN perform a disconnection, but only if they have been taught how to by a cleric who has been taught the spell. It's not even close to as abusable as with the cleric having full control over the magic with no divine repercussions (which goes against cleric lore anyways, since war cleric magic is equally as abusable but it DOES have divine repercussions of being disconnect-worthy), and it fits in with cleric magic being spell-based. Having every experienced cleric have equal opportunity to perform the spell, as you say the Creator clerics used to do it, would probably make it more abusable. I am taking the best aspects of both your and Dandan's interpretations of disconnection and putting them into one: a trusted, limited amount of people can perform a disconnection, but only if the cleric has broken a rule of their patron. Abusable only as much as war cleric magic is. Just talked to Jitsuma about it and you are absolutely right. I wrote that in based on misconceptions and guesses about soul contract lore. I'll edit that out! Thanks for pointing that out to me!
  4. Ceasing clericy activities is essentially abandoning your duty as a cleric. After a long amount of time of simply not helping people, ignoring taint, and letting darkness spread throughout the land, you aren't doing your duty as a cleric. You aren't worthy of the connection. Therefore, if a cleric simply stopped clericing, Tahariae would notify someone to disconnect them. EDIT: Explanation added to the OP. Thank you so much for bringing it up. Also clarified that blood mages are not tainted beings, that was an overlooked mistake. They just use tainted magic.
  5. As the Aengudaemonic lore says, Tahariae would notify His followers of His magic being used by a scoundrel through a vision. How they would OOCly know is through something like the GM seeing Jakir do stuff. The grapevine is effective for stuff like that. Your point about the Itharel is very good. However, the Itharel are chosen because they embody certain attributes of Tahariae; they are not Tahariae Himself. They have their own will and make their own decisions based on their own experiences. All I'm trying to do is make it so clerics aren't disconnected for reasons that have nothing to do with their being a cleric. I'm slightly unclear how this is a bad idea. I'm trying to keep RP in RP, but that RP requires OOC clarification on disconnection works. I'm trying to change it from two people having absolute power over the clerics and can determine who stays and who goes based on IC or OOC reasons. The only reason for disconnection should be violating Tahariae's Five Tenets, which, now that I bring it up, I need to put into the lore.
  6. I'm not arguing it shouldn't be a spell known by clerics. I'm arguing it should be a spell that can only be used if a clerics has "[gone] renegade and continues to use the aengudaemon’s magic". I understand Aenguls work through their followers and not with their own hand, but as this lore says, "the aengudaemon will send their loyal followers to hunt them down and use severing magics (usually known only to the highest mages of the order or cult) to cut the rogue off from the aengudaemon" Which means the spell should only be used if the Aengudaemon sends his loyal followers to do the disconnecting, if the cleric to be disconnected has gone renegade, ie broken one of their commands. Just doing something that the other clerics don't like, such as swearing a lot or having more than two apprentices or starting another guild or something, should not be worthy of disconnection, because Tahariae doesn't have any issues with it. I'd make disconnecting without valid reason be reason for disconnection. Maybe it doesn't have to be an automagic withdrawal of their ability to do the spell. Maybe Tahariae tells the other Itharel or whoever knows the ritual "Hey! This bro is bein a jerk! Get him!", as the lore here says Tahariae will do whenever a cleric breaks His tenets.
  7. Except, for the past... As long as I've been a cleric, there have only been two clerics who know the spell of disconnection. If we wanted that possibility, then the ritual would have been taught. We obviously don't, and it makes far more sense for disconnection to be linked to Tahariae's disappointment than the wrath of a butthurt cleric. I mean, other patrons have similar relationships with disconnection: monks can't hurt anybody, ever, and if they do they're disconnected on the spot by their own patron. Druids have something similar (correct me if I'm wrong, people who know druid lore). Point is, it shouldn't be a thing for clerics to pull out for some very brief cleric-on-cleric violence. Wouldn't bring much RP to be honest: the cleric would be caught by an Itharel and disconnected for violating the first tenet of Tahariae, to protect fellow servants of Tahariae. Again, this kind of RP was apparently never fully supported by anybody, because we've never had clerics be taught the ritual, besides Hosper and Ivanus. This issue shall be discussed thoroughly by clerickind, a verdict on it shall be added to the lore tomorrow.
  8. The cleric using the spell would only use it should the cleric break the will of their patron. I shall, however, write in that clarification: clerics with knowledge of the ritual receive a vision from Tahariae describing the cleric who has broken His tenets, and the cleric goes out to disconnect them. If a cleric performs a disconnection without valid reasoning in relation to the Five Tenets, then they lose the ability to use the spell. Would that be a satisfactory edit?

  12. I wasn't clear on what I meant. Characters don't know if they will be resurrected, so deaths should be treated as though they are the permadeath, regardless of whether or not it is. That's what I RP my character as doing, and will do anything in his power to avoid death. He's a goshdang cleric, his job is healing people and making sure they don't die. Considering we have lore on studies of the Wilven monks and that people have rped being resurrected and healed by the monks, it's a bit late to come up with the idea that they wake up at the tavern. IC denial won't really change much, and people will still say "Hey, I remember this shady fella walkin in right before I blacked out!" This doesn't fix the problem. And from my understanding, your own personal IC beliefs about the monks is not ban worthy, so long as you forget the circumstances leading up to your death. Just make it a rule to not seek vengeance for your own death. I liked someone else's idea: have it so when people are in the area of their death or are around their killer, they get this inexplicable visceral reaction that forces them to leave. EDIT: I'm so sorry, didn't read through the last couple posts. If this isn't an enforced thing, I personally have no problem with it :P IC beliefs should not be bannable, and this is a creative way to deal with it!
  13. To the characters, resurrection at the Cloud Temple is never guaranteed. OOCly, we get to choose to PK or to resurrect, but ICly? They don't know if this is The Death. I think IC knowledge of the monks doin their resurrection thing is fine. The problem is when people try to revenge their own deaths, or remember events leading up to their death. This would just also require a lot of voiding of RP. Everybody saw your character die, and you sneezing won't change what other characters saw.

  15. ((OOC)) MC Name: Ventusyr Skype: [email protected] Timezone: Pacific Standard Time IC Name: Heshakomeu Sohae Race: Mali’aheral Nation Allegiance: None. I have wandered for some time. Age: 198 Can you fight?: Yes, but due to my primary occupation, I am quite physically inept. I would not be very useful in a fight. However, I used to be a warrior: my primary skill was with a staff or glaive, but I was proficient with the bow and axe as well. I can still defend myself with a staff, I have been training with the glaive again, and in a pinch I can use a spell of calming to end conflict. Do you know magic?: I am the last of the Vallendaran Priests of Tahariae. Through Tahariae, the Lord of Purity, I am able to heal the gravest of wounds, cure the most terrible of diseases, and banish the darkest of taint from the bodies of the Descendants. Would you do work (Nexus professions) for the Scions?: I would. I am quite skilled with modifying weapons or tools to make them more efficient for specific tasks ((Enchanting)), but I would require new tools for it. I also have some knowledge of alchemy, but I would require reagents, and I am still a neophyte.
  16. Heshakomeu looks up from the provided history with a furrowed brow. "'The survival of its current state only due to the hard efforts of an unnamed few'... The author of this hardly did his research then, and considering how distant the Itharel were from the past Orders, I am not surprised they did not inform him, or her, of the names. Ah, well, I shall speak to the author about it later..." He sets the history next to him on the natural rootwood floor of his temple, and pulls out a bottled inkwell, a quill, and paper from his coat. Without further ado, he begins to write: The Curators of Light, During my time leading what was left of the Order, I made an agreement with Isabella Deathsbane, leader of the druids of the Spring Circle, that we would unite and build a temple beside their great tree. I am currently reconsidering build design, but the area is still available for the clerics to construct a temple or home of some sort, provided it doesn't clash with the druidic aesthetic too much. Should you need a place to call home, that is available. It is central, far moreso than wherever the home of the Brotherhood is, and along the main road, and a continued alliance with those who were such fervent fighters against taint as well would benefit both the Curators and the Druidic Order. May Tahariae's Light guide your path, Heshakomeu Sohae Heshakomeu then rolls the note up and ties it shut. He whistles, and a very angry bird begrudgingly flies down from a branch above him. It squawks loudly as the high elf seizes it and ties the note to a cloth harness attached to the bird. "Go find the fortress of the Brotherhood of the Golden Lions, you barbaric buzzard," mutters Heshakomeu, before releasing the bird. It immediately leaps and flies off, gliding on air currents and warm breezes to find the Itharel and assorted clerics of the Curators.
  17. You know you've been playing an elf for too long when someone says "Hi!" to you and your first instinct is to say "Karin'ayla!"

  18. ((Yes, please. I was going to ask this. I'll edit it as it needs to be.)) Heshakomeu's brow furrows as he reads the note. "Genocidal group of infidels..." he mutters appreciatively, before pocketing the note and exiting home to pull his latest shipment of materials from Cerulin to the Spring Circle. ((If you want to send more notes, send it at the next thread posted for the clerics. I would love to have my days numbered, just not on this thread :D ))
  19. While moving crates to the Spring Circle from his shrine in Cerulin, Heshakomeu stumbles across the note. He lets out a small sigh. "Who knows how long ago this was delivered..." he mutters as he lifts it up and reads it. With pursed lips and a narrowed eye, he writes a response: Karin'ayla, I apologize for the delay. The Order became very disorganized for a few Elven weeks. Come to the Spring Circle. The Order is erecting a temple there. I can continue to teach you. May Tahariae's light guide your path. - Heshakomeu Sohae, High Priest of the Clerical Order of Tahariae Heshakomeu ties the note to the leg of a large, angry bird and throws it out the window, then goes off to continue lifting crates into his cart. ((I'm usually on at 7 PM PST weekdays, come by to partay))
  20. Heshakomeu returns to his shrine, tired after performing a healing. He notices the bird perched upon his altar, looking rather confused and lost. The high elf priest pulls off the note, reads it, and sets about writing a response. Annabelle, Come to the mali'ame city of Cerulin. I will be available at asimulumleh'ah'Lenia, or the Shrine of Saint Lenia. We can speak on your motivations and desire to join the Order. May Tahariae guide your path, High Priest Heshakomeu Sohae
  21. My only concern is that we are adding another healing magic to LOTC when we have several already. However, I like the rise of more Aengulic cults and diversity in religious/cleric RP far more than I'm apprehensive about more magic, so I fully support! Oh, actually, one thing: Why are they called Reapers if they don't actually reap souls, as the Reaper of Earth mythology does, or reap anything, as people in LOTC would only know "reapers" as people harvesting wheat?
  22. Heshakomeu Sohae picks up the letter and sets about writing a response. Reznar Mayflower, I would like to meet at the soonest possible convenience. We can speak of what you would be doing for the Order and the process of being inducted. Send me a bird. - High Priest Heshakomeu Sohae Heshakomeu attaches the note to a small messenger bird. It jumps off the balcony of his home and makes for Reznar. ((PM me times your on, or check if I'm online and /msg me. My username is Ventusyr!))
