Every being in Anthos - of any race, culture, or religion - have certain rights given them. These are the Basic Rights, and are granted to every soul under the three. These Rights are strictly observed in Adunian Lands, and are as follows.
Right the First is the Right of Life. Every being has a right to live. The murder of any being in Adunian Lands will be considered a crime of the highest degree and shall result in execution and exile, no matter the reason for the murder. Should one who is exiled come again to Adunia, their death shall not be considered murder, and the one who kills them shall not be held accountable for their death.
Right the Second is the Right of Freedom. In Adunia, all beings are granted freedom to live as they will, under the Law. Slavery, whether the act of taking a person and putting them into slavery, or the selling of slaves, shall be considered against this right, and the offender shall first give up all slaves they have an pay a fine of one thousand minas to Adunia. Upon the second offense they shall again give up all slaves to freedom, and shall be branded with a mark deeming them of lesser standing. Should they then commit this act a third time, they shall once again return their slaves to freedom, and then be exiled though not executed. However, when a being has committed a crime that consitutes enslavement as its punishment, they are given to the Thane Steward to be sold as a slave. These slaves are considered legal, as they have brought their lack of freedom upon themselves.
Right the Third is the Right of Law. Every being has a right to law and to the keeping and safety it brings. Should any being go against the law, they shall suffer the punishments it allocates. Those beings who belong to the common people shall be judged by the Assembly. Those beings who belong to the higher ranks shall be judged by the Adunian Lord and his Council of Thanes. If anyone should threaten to harm those who judge the law, or should commit any form of treason shall be executed and exiled from Adunian Lands. Treason includes, but is not limited to the assassination or attempted assassination of the Lord or his Thane Counselors, the attempted corruption of any members of the Council, or whatsoever is decided by the Thane Council to be considered treason.
Right the Fourth is the Right of Religion. Every being has a right to their own religion and worship. The Accepted Religion in Adunia is the Old Faith, and while the worship of other religions is allowed in Adunia, the act of recruiting or publicly worshipping will be considered disturbing the peace of the Lord, and shall be met with a day in the public stocks ((one mc day)). A second offense will result in exile for a period determined by the Assembly. A third offense of this kind shall be met with the removal of the tongue of the offender.
Right the Fifth is the Right of Safety. Every being has a right to their personal safety. This includes both the safety of their person and the safety of their property. Any destruction of property not belonging to the destroyer shall result in an item of equal or lesser value of the destroyer’s own property being destroyed. If the destroyer owns no property, they shall be treated as a thief and punished as such. Should a being assault another being, it shall first result in a day in the stocks, then upon a second offense they shall be exiled.
Right the Sixth is the Right of Property. Every being has a right to their own property. Any theft of the property of another will result in one day in the public stocks. Upon the second offense, the dominant hand of the offender shall be removed. If there should be a third offense, the offender’s other hand shall also be removed.
Right the Seventh is the Right of Trial. Every being has a right to a fair trial. Should any be refused a trial, they may come forward to the Adunian Lord, and an investigation will begin. Should the accusation be true, those who refused the trial shall spend one day in the public stocks. Should they refuse another a trial, they shall be removed from the authority to participate in the Assembly. The only one allowed to pass judgement immediately is the Thane Marshall.
Right the Eighth is the Right of Honesty. Every being has a right to speak honestly. Any being may serve as a witness in a trial. However, should a being deem to speak falsely during a trial, whether under the Assembly or the Adunian Lord, they shall be punished with the removal of their tongue.
Right the Ninth is the Right of Appeal. Every being has a right to appeal for their crimes. Should a criminal who has been exiled choose to come forward and be judged to have sincerely repented of their crimes, they may be allowed to come before the Assembly. Should their crime be particularly heinous, they shall come before the Adunian Lord and his Thane Council.
Right the Tenth is the Right of Children. The children of any race have a right to forgiveness of some crimes, and different punishments. Theft by a child, the destruction of property, religious advertisement, or assistance of a criminal shall be forgiven, with a stern warning issued to the parents. Should a child break any of the other laws, or should they commit the above crimes a second time, shall result in the punishment falling upon the parents, and the children being taken to be raised properly. A child in Adunia is considered to be from birth to eight years of age, or the equivalent for non-human races.
((In Adunia, we have a few OOC laws as well.
For one, no trolling. Trolling is defined as doing something that doesn’t rply make sense over and over again when someone has asked you to stop. If no one asks you to stop, you’re fine. If someone does, and you continue anyway, then you will rply be treated as though you have a creature in your head that Adunians know of as a “troll” that is causing you to act this way and you will be taken before the Assembly and we’ll decide if you need to be exiled so the troll can’t spread or if you've been cured.
Secondly, don’t rp that the monks “fixed” you if you've had anything happen to you by the law. For example, if you were caught stealing and your hand gets cut off, don’t come back saying the monks put it back on. We’ll ****** you and cut it off again. Most of us feel like if the law does it to you, you shouldn't just be able to get it back so easily. Monks are more for deaths, not for random acts of healing. Go to a cleric and have them heal it back. We’ll accept that more than the monks.
Thirdly, if you are exiled, and you decide you want to come back and wreck some havoc, try to make sure there are other people on than just like one or two. We’ll welcome the rp, but when someone is completely outnumbered and have no chance, it’s never fun rp for them. Just understand that really, you should be thrown back out of town if you are exiled. That’s how it should work. If you wanna make fun rp fine, just make sure it’s fun for everyone.
If there are any other ooc issues we have, we’ll put them here. Obviously if you want to rp the way you do, you can. Just try not to do something that ruins someone else’s rp.))
