  1. Owyn III before his disappearance THE ALBAROSE WITHERS GOD BETRAYED Laurence August Pruvia-Albarosa had faced many trials. Ever since joining the fray of Richard Victor Helvets, he could never run out of enemies to oppose him. From the O’Rourkes over a tavern, Ostromir over land, the Wicks over his Premiership and the Dubois’ over his arrogance: fighting for the system of Kaedrin, and his people, the Crown above him ended his most ancient vassal: killing a nation, but not the fights that it was plagued by. Parallel to his Premiership, Laurence rose through the ranks of the Church. For every controversy, he had diligence. For every coalition to oust him, he had a lobby to back him. The determination of his foes to make Laurence’s ambitions untenable was made of iron: no reconciliation, no concession & no plea could make it stop. On the run from the crowd that sought to architect his end: he ran upwards, hoping that new ranks could shield him from the stones thrown beneath. Then on that fateful night, when James II had passed, five Cardinals convened to bestow Laurence his greatest responsibility yet: the High Pontificate. They understood as much as Laurence that his problematic reputation would face a challenge, but history proved that his diligence could compensate for it. Surely, they assumed, the normal conventions of diplomacy & honorability would apply for the High Pontiff: if not for him, then for who? They misjudged gravely. Spectres of his past became stronger and louder, betrayals became more prominent. As people fatigued in their relentless defense of this legitimate Pontiff, so weakened their will to serve. They weren’t politicians, and they cared too much for the approval of their friends. Even titans of the faith such as Cardinal Benedict could no longer face the Haeseni: the choice between brethren and faith becoming overbearing. Diplomacy faltered, concessions ignored over public sentiment. Canonist princes ignoring ecclesiastical law, usurping the Cardinals in deposing Owyn III. None of the crimes had happened: but that did not matter, for he was too disliked for justice. And when he heard that his cardinals, bishops & priests were mercilessly butchered by Haeseni & Orenian troops. He couldn’t justify his existence any longer. Sending out a letter to all nation leaders and surviving Cardinals, he hid into a cargo carriage and drove off to an undisclosed location. The letter simply read: THE HIGH PONTIFICATE OF OWYN III His Holiness the High Pontiff Owyn III has passed away and has been cremated in accordance to his wishes. The College of Cardinals is instructed, by whomever remaining that is capable of exercising this authority, to hold a new election. I loved Humanity. TE DEUM. PONTIFEX MAXIMUS OWYN III [!] A seal displaying Ex. Owyn & Ex. Sigismund seals this letter.
  2. A thick smoke originated from the Augustine palace, clouding the horizon before the small gathering of clergymen on the balcony. The Apostle-General walked forward to the Pontifex Maximus, saluting as his eyes followed Owyn's cigarette being tapped over the ashtray. "Rennes." Owyn III dryly stated, his back still turned to him as his eyes remained fixated on the devastated palace, the Pontifical Legate & Secretary joining the general's flank. "Your Holiness." the Apostle-General responded, nodding once before being interjected by the Pontifical Legate "Your Holiness, it seems that the Xannites were behind this terrorist attack. We should ask our contacts in the House of Commons to outla-." Owyn III raised his hand, silencing the Legate "If heretics are targeting us, trying to wipe us out, the Holy Mother Church will stop them. If we wait for politicians and the House of Commons to act... There will be no seat of the Fidei Defensor left. " "Understood, Your Holiness." the three would express together, the Secretary moving forward with a file "Auditor Vicary has reviewed your draft, and says it's good to go, Your Holiness." "Splendid, Nicolas." Owyn III would turn around, now facing the gathering "I will publish this decree. General, it's up to you to do the rest." THE FIRST CRUSADE By Decree of Sanctitas Pontifex Maximus OWYN III Most beloved children of the Descendants; we, the High Pontificate of Owyn III, by the grace of God shepherd of his greatest flock, bring to all people of this world a divine admonition. It is known as a fact of the scrolls that to live a virtuous life you must gladly do the things which you know will please Him. We have long spoken of the great disorder in the world caused by the Xannite heathens and speak of their crimes without the crooked knee of conciliation that seeded histories past. We exhort and demand that you, each, try hard to retain peace within the realms of the Church. Our brethren in Oren are in urgent need of the help of the faithful, who must apply the strength of their righteousness to hasten to give them aid. For, as most must have now heard, the Xannite heathens have attacked them and sought to both harm the majesty of the Holy Orenian Emperor and sow discord across his worshipful provinces. They sought to kill and capture many, and have destroyed buildings to devastate the empire. The temporal governments of this plane allowed them, against our caution, to inhabit Canonist cities and partake in our societies: for they would bring coin and labour. Now, they have brought destruction. On this account We, or rather the Lord, beseech you as Canonists to publish this everywhere and persuade all people of whatever rank, from footmen to barron-knights, richest of pocket to poorest of beggar, to carry aid to those Canonists that bring arms against these Xannic apostates. All who die in holy battle against these pagans shall have immediate remission of sins, this granted to them through the power of God who invests this as a blessing in taking up arms for a holy cause. The Apostle-General and our esteemed Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn shall, alongside all Canonists willing and able, cleanse the streets of Providence & beyond from the Xannite heretics & architects of violence against GOD. We condemn all with a fearful anathema, all those who proclaim the Xannite heresies, and those who dare to molest those engaging in this journey for God. To any Xannite Paladin, and bearer of aggression to the Fidei Defensor and our Clergy, your end is proclaimed by our decree. Should anyone led by his arrogance or cupidity go against this edict and take up arms to defend the Xannite heathens that attacked the Holy Orenian Empire, by authority of God and with the sanction of the office of our High Pontificate, he too shall be anathematized and find his or her own decimation from GOD’s plane. Te Deum. GODANI JEST WIELKI SANCTITAS PONTIFEX MAXIMUS OWYN III
  3. "خلص! Mashallah will these heretics taste the blood of my Scimitar" said Owyn III, riding in a Lawrence-of-Arabia fashion towards Osanora.
  4. "I look forward to seeing what the Bishops of Providentia & Albarosa will come to in preparation for the Diet." he turns to Patriarch @repl1caflanking him "When will those of Jorenus convene?"
  5. PAPAL MISSIVE TO KOENAS ISABEL, 358 ES By Sanctitas Pontifex Maximus Owyn III To the Koenas Isabel of Hanseti-Ruska; The esteemed House of Barbanov; & the people of Hanseti-Ruska, It is with great sorrow that the High Pontificate of Owyn III has received word of Koeng Josef's heart attack and current medical state. Our prayers go to his swift recovery, the doctors treating him & his nation now engulfed by worry and sorrow. Deepest sympathy is given to Koenas Isabel and her offspring, and the entire clergy of Jorenus is henceforth instructed to provide aid and consolation wherever possible. The High Pontificate of Owyn III shall fully cooperate with Grand Prince Henrik & the government of Hanseti-Ruska during these troubling moments, and shall suspend all planned festivities & celebrations until further notice. GOD be with you, people of Haense. Te Deum. AB IMO PECTORE PONTIFEX MAXIMUS OWYN III
  6. TERTIUS BULLA AUREA ALBAROSA The Third Golden Bull of Albarosa OWYN III, pontifex maximus, servus servorum Dei, episcopus Sancta Sedes, Sends his greetings to all the faithful of the realm. Since a thing just and honorable is asked of us by GOD: to promulgate His Word, protect His Faith & defend the Sanctity of His Flock, GOD demands that these missions are led to its proper conclusion through the care of our office, and the piety of our faithful. The First Ecumenical Council of Albarosa has been concluded with record participation unseen for decades within our Holy Mother Church: an electoral triumph for our most divine institution. The High Pontificate of Owyn III thanks all participants, and promises to use the mandates given in a careful and considerate fashion: which shall become evident in this TERTIUS BULLA AUREA ALBAROSA. Beyond the passed proposals of the council, the High Pontificate of Owyn III is pleased with the progress made in its long overdue reforms regarding the Ruskan Rite, internal organization & the Curia. Although this Bulla Aurea is not the final decree pertaining to these reforms, it is by all means an important milestone which shall permanently chart the course for our faith. Clergy -- rejoice! Te deum. That’s it. Owyn III has gone jokermode. TABLE OF CONTENTS I). The permanent Dioceses of the Faith II). Diocesan naming III). The Office of Cardinalis IV). Archiepiscopis & Episcopis V). Diet of Bishops VI). Ecclesiastical prosecution VII). Canonizations, beatifications & venerations SECTION I. PERMANENT DIOCESES OF THE FAITH The Clergy has granted an overwhelming majority for the proposed enshrinement of Jorenus, Providentia & Albarosa in Canon Law: rendering them as permanent in the Holy Mother Church. The High Pontificate of Owyn III shall therefore see to its responsible implementation. Understanding however that nations and borders change, and that the cultural value of names or ecclesiastical size vary by decade: rendering the permanence of these dioceses absolute would be irresponsible. The following stipulations shall be decreed by this TERTIUS BULLA AUREA ALBAROSA, and later implemented in the Codex of Canon Law. I). He who as a subordinate to the Pontifex Maximus is assigned to shepherd over the seat of the Fidei Defensor, and therefore the Holy See, shall have its Archdiocese styled as ‘Metropolitanate’, and himself as ‘the Metropolitan’ or ‘Metropolitanus’. II). He who as a subordinate to the Pontifex Maximus is assigned to shepherd over the Highlander nations, shall have its Archdiocese styled as ‘Patriarchate’ or ‘Patriarchalis’, and himself as ‘the Patriarch’ or ‘Patriarcha’. This is to be different from Book II, Title III, Chapters III & IV, which describes a Patriarch as an Archbishop presiding over non-human provinces. These names shall bear similarities despite being different entities, until such is corrected in the next Ecumenical council. III). He who as a subordinate to the Pontifex Maximus is assigned to shepherd over the Kaedreni and other minorities of the Holy Orenian Empire, shall have its Archdiocese styled as the ‘Prince-Archbishopric’ or ‘Princeps-Archiepiscopatum’, and himself as ‘the Prince-Archbishop’ or ‘Princeps-Archiepiscopus’. IV). That the Metropolitanus, Partriarcha & Princeps-Archiepiscopus are deemed superior to the conventional status of ‘Archdiocese’, and may therefore host Archdioceses as subordinate ministries if the Pontifex Maximus ordains so. V). That the Pontifex Maximus may still establish, dissolve, restore or rename subordinate (arch)dioceses beneath the aforementioned. VI). That if one or more of the aforementioned dioceses suffer from, or are subject to: A). A loss of statehood or legal status beneath a state. B). Participation in, sympathy to or facilitation of schisms, rejection of Pontifical authority or Canonist dogma. C). A relatively small population of clergymen or ecclesiastically-related individuals within these Archdioceses D). Severe neglect of ecclesiastical duties or the preservation of unity within the Holy Mother Church. They lose the protections granted by this TERTIUS BULLA AUREA ALBAROSA, and return wholly as subject to the prerogative of the Pontifex Maximus. To name these Archdioceses with special status collectively, without convoluting documents by specifying all three repeatedly, they shall carry the name of ‘Triumvirate’. SECTION II. DIOCESAN NAMING Traditionally the naming of Dioceses has been the exclusive prerogative of the Pontifex Maximus, who to varying degrees considered the local cultures beneath the dioceses. To ensure that the historic, cultural or political histories of diocesan names remain respected: the Clergy had granted His Holiness an overwhelming majority to consolidate certain diocesan names, and to add further stipulations pertaining to the naming process. The following stipulations shall be decreed by this TERTIUS BULLA AUREA ALBAROSA, and later implemented in the new Canon Law document. I). That the Metropolitanate shall carry the name of ‘Metropolitanate of Providentia’ and its shepherd ‘Metropolitanus of Providentia’. II). That the Patriarchalis shall carry the name of ‘Patriarchalis of Jorenus’ and its shepherd ‘Patriarcha of Jorenus’. III). That the Princeps-Archiepiscopatum shall carry the name of ‘Princeps-Archiepiscopatum of Albarosa' and its shepherd ‘Princeps-Archiepiscopus of Albarosa’. IV). That the names of Providentia, Jorenus & Albarosa cannot be changed by Pontifical or Archdiocesan decree if it is not: approved by the Pontifex Maximus, the shepherd of either of these Archdioceses and a majority of subordinate diocesan shepherds simultaneously. V). That the dioceses who represent a singular, or multiple, cultural minorities within an Archdiocese, shall carry a name that aligns with said culture in terms of their native tongue, or if in a foreign language, that the name carries cultural relevance to said culture it shepherds over. SECTION III. THE OFFICE OF CARDINALIS The College of Cardinals has historically served as a sleeping electorate that, upon the death of the Pontifex Maximus, elects a new one. Most of their authority, prestige & tasks that they fulfill within the Holy Mother Church comes from informal structures that differ per Cardinal and Pontifex Maximus. The High Pontificate of Owyn III finds it organizationally irresponsible to place the diligence and relevancy of its cardinals at the mercy of their popularity, seniority or their only superior. For they should, regardless of these factors, play an important role in charting the course that the Holy Mother Church takes and the internal culture it harbours for its clergymen. The Cardinals shall therefore be given: I). The authority to nominate and therefore propose alongside the (Arch)bishops, or veto, nominees to the roles of Vicar & Diocesan legate for the High Pontiff to confirm at his own discretion. II). The responsibility to extensively report on and represent the subordinate (Arch)bishops in the College of Cardinals or while voting on canonizations, beatifications or venerations in ecumenical councils. III). The responsibility to ensure the active participation of the local clergy in wider ecclesiastical affairs, functions & festivities of the Holy Mother Church. IV). To safeguard the harmony between Canonist dogma & local rites. V). To safeguard the harmony between Pontifex Maximus & the local clergy. SECTION IV. ARCHIEPISCOPIS & EPISCOPIS The (Arch)bishop remains the most crucial element of the Canonist ministry, being the closest to the congregation while still wielding sufficient authority to represent them higher up the ecclesiastical hierarchy. Understanding this, our Holy Pontificate marches onwards with further strengthening their necessary societal role. Each (Arch)bishop may henceforth publish (Arch)diocesan decrees, which shall immediately be legitimized within the next Golden Bull by the Pontifex Maximus, whenever it is published. For an (Arch)diocesan decree to be integrated in a Golden Bull, it must be passed in the Diet of Bishops. I). Majority support in the Diet of Bishops. II). An absence of a veto from his superior Cardinal, which shall be the Cardinal(s) from the nation the (Arch)diocese is located in. III). An absence of a veto from the Pontifex Maximus. IV). Approval from the Auditor of the Tribunal, who shall only review and judge it on the basis of its correct usage of ecclesiastical law & Golden Bulls it may reference. Once it meets all the criteria above, it must be implemented in the next Golden Bull under the section ‘Archdiocesan Decrees’. SECTION V. DIET OF BISHOPS The Diet of Bishops, although established in a prior Golden Bull, has yet to find its appropriate form within the Holy Mother Church. In this TERTIUS BULLA AUREA ALBAROSA, the High Pontificate of Owyn III hopes to provide it. The Diet of Bishops is the meeting of all Bishop of the Church where they primarily provide or withdraw assent from diocesan decrees, lobby the College of Cardinals and the Pontifex Maximus by supporting or opposing certain ideas through non-binding votes, which shall serve as an indicator of popular support and prepare proposals for ecumenical councils, Golden Bulls or other decision making. A Diet of Bishops can be petitioned by any Bishop. Said petition is approved by the Pontifex Maximus, from which a Diet of Bishops is then called: presided over by the petitioner. A Diet of Bishops can be attended by all Bishops. The Council of Bishops is the meeting between all Dioceses beneath an Archdiocese of the faith like Providentia, Albarosa or Jorenus: where the local Bishops may discuss, propose and vote on decisions between themselves, should they wish to organize themselves prior to a Diet of Bishops or an Ecumenical Council. A Council of Bishops may be called by any Bishop. Unlike the Diet of Bishops, the petitioner for a Council of Bishops may determine who is and isn’t allowed to attend on his own accord. All votes and decisions that are made in a Council of Bishops are by definition informal and non-binding to the Holy Mother Church, as they solely serve as internal preparation for participation in the Diet of Bishops & Ecumenical Councils. This establishes the following structure within the Holy Mother Church: I). The College of Cardinals Forever in session, exclusive to Cardinals. II). The Diet of Bishops Sessions are called by petitioners upon approval from the Pontifex Maximus, exclusive to all Bishops. II.I). Council of Bishops Sessions are called by any Bishop, which are exclusive to all Bishops from either the Metropolitanate, Patriarchis or Princeps-Archiepiscopatum. These local councils cannot make binding decisions, and are solely meant to internally prepare for their participation in the Diet of Bishops or Ecumenical councils. SECTION VI. ECCLESIASTICAL PROSECUTION The High Pontificate of Owyn III has faltered in its initial attempts to establish a counter-cultural movement against the modernist ‘Legalism’ within Humanity, and other human groups such as the Hyspians who abandoned the faith with no consequence. Although it is not the inherent task nor the wish of the High Pontificate of Owyn III to actively meddle in the lives and self-determination of humans: it consistently finds a great malaise experienced amongst their congregations, who feel alienated by a society that puts the faith second to temporal power. In an attempt to further harmonize ecclesiastical law with secular authorities a grand strategy shall be adopted that will stretch over multiple decades, councils and potentially Pontificates. In this TERTIUS BULLA AUREA ALBAROSA, the first steps will be taken. The Apostle-General is instructed together with his Equestor-Imperators to educate other members of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn on the legal systems of Hanseti-Ruska & Oren. They will furthermore be trained to utilize basic prosecutorial privileges in tandem with the Auditor of the Tribunal, so that a greater legal effort can be made against apostates & heretics within the greater sphere of humanity. The Pontifical Legate is instructed to lobby their respective Governments to establish legislation that counters secularism & tolerance of heretics within their respective nations. SECTION VII. CANONIZATIONS, BEATIFICATIONS & VENERATIONS The High Pontificate of Owyn III has, in accordance with the results from the First Ecumenical Council of Albarosa, and without further intervention from His Holiness, decided to canonize, beatificate or venerate the following Canonists: I). CANONIZATIONS Andrik Vydra Patron Saint of Victory, Military Excellence & the Schism war The victor of the Schism war, and a noble statesman that led Oren to unparalleled progress, only to be martyred by Elven degenerates: Andrik Vydra is a severely revered statesman and inspiration for the faithful in both High- & Heartlander nations. He is seen as the father of what would become a united Humanity. After the war, friend and foe alike joined under Vydra’s banner: restoring a balance in the human realm, and finishing the greatest conflict known to man. 1st Miracle - Despite overwhelming odds, facing all races and the near half of the entire human race from Aesterwald, and the Undead Forces of Iblees himself. Andrik Vydra’s Canonist League would achieve a crucial victory at Milvian Bridge, turning the tide of the war deemed unwinnable. Andrik remained entirely unharmed, despite fighting many foes by himself. 2nd Miracle - Standing as an Akovian peasant in the Cloud Temple, the near entirety of Humanity bend their knee to him, seeing his Holy Mandate to unite the race. Within mere hours, all temporal leaders declared Andrik Vydra King, thus making him the King of Oren. High Pontiff Everard II ‘the Wise’ Patron Saint of Forethought, Divine Retribution & Pontifical Statehood The progenitor of the Everardine era, universally seen as a golden age for the Holy Mother Church, His Holiness Everard II would see to the foundation of the first independent Pontifical State after the Tarchar Crusades in 1523 & the establishment of the Office of Auditor of the Tribunal. He was tutored by Sixtus III, the son of St. Emma of Woldzmir & served as Vice-Chancellor under the blessed High Pontiff Daniel II. He was known as ‘the Watcher’ due to his refusal to participate in the Duke’s war, and ‘the Wise’ for his role as architect of the longest golden age of the Holy Mother Church. He was a key figure in the restoration of the Horen Dynasty, which saw John I to be crowned as Holy Orenian Empire. He founded numerous missions to the Elven territories and Uruguan, bringing future Saints such as St. Michael of Cordobe into the fray. He was the first High Pontiff that started codifying Canon Law. His policies of expansionism & pontifical restoration did not sit well with John Turnbull, who out of his childish hissyfits had started a movement to dethrone Everard II. Emperor John I intervened by calling a diet and arresting all these schismatic clergymen, ending that schism. After the Turnbull affair, certain remnant elements of this schism martyred Everard II: ending his eventful reign abruptly. 1st Miracle - During the Redmark massacre, where the de Sola’s slaughtered the entire Adrian retinue during a trial, Everard II jumped off the highest point of the castle and landed safely, fleeing the massacre and reporting it to proper authorities. 2nd Miracle - Archaengul Michael & Gabriel came down to Everard II personally in Luciensport, to request aid in their fight against Iblees. It is said that for an entire week after, the High Pontiff was illuminated by a golden light. 3rd Miracle - During the sacking of Alsace, Everard II would personally stand between John of Carnatia and his troops, and Augustus Valkenwrath, the mayor of Alsace: Everard II’s voice alone would freeze John’s retinue, delaying the sacking until Augustus and other civilians managed to flee or hide in the crypts. II). VENERATIONS High Pontiff Pontian III A martyr to radical secular elements within the Holy Orenian Empire of yore, His Holiness Pontian III is remembered for undergoing the ultimate sacrifice in his pursuit for greater ecclesiastical relevancy in human culture and Pontifical authority in general society. Father Pius of Sutica A titan of the quill who in his lifetime authored many great works, and sought to the completion of the James II archive & many other theological works used by current clergymen. His diligence and theological knowledge is worth veneration, so that it may serve as inspiration to all the scholarly among us. 8. THE DEFEAT AT FORT HYSPIA @repl1ca @GoldWolfGaming @Zoprak_Visconti The tent had become increasingly crowded, as clergy from all corners ventured in to debate and cast a vote. Organizationally, the First Ecumenical Council of Albarosa was rather hectic. Clergymen voted despite being prohibited to in the first round, and the Chamberlain tallied them regardless. Arguments between those favouring the quick process, and others feeling constrained by it, erupted amidst ongoing discussions. The proposals formulated took the lives of four different interpretations by four different camps at least, to the pain of the fatigued High Pontiff. Yet despite it all: the council functioned, and the clergy were able to represent their views accordingly. Decisions were made, and the delegations could depart knowing they had done a good job. A mixed view on the quality of the council was not a bad view: and for Owyn III, who was still fresh on the Pontifical throne, such was sufficient. It seemed that every delegation achieved at least a minor victory, from canonizing their icons to stopping the beatifications of their foes. Jorenus saw its traditional opposition to reforms & bureaucracy to an electoral triumph, while the ecclesiastical puritans stopped Owyn III from needlessly re-authoring the old Canon Law. To a degree, His Holiness was pleased with seeing every party as partial victors from this council. But that pleasure wasn’t enough to quell a more profound sense of defeat. Once the council had concluded, all that Owyn III felt was the desire to take a fresh breath of air outside. As he walked towards the outskirts of Osanora, his hunting Castor Crossbow in hand: Manfried, Alfred & Antonius would sprint after him. For a moment Owyn III forgot that he was the Pontiff with the largest security entourage, he was now simply a man that didn’t get what he wanted. Aiming his crossbow at a faraway bird, the three would catch up to him. “Your Holiness..” Alfred spoke out of breath, going to stand besides him. “Ahh, Episcopus Henrikev.” Owyn III replied dryly, tilting his head in an attempt to aim “How fared the Albarosan council for you?" “It had fared well” Alfred smiled regaining his composure as the other two flanked him “not what ich expected, but it went well.” His Holiness would not see Alfred’s reassuring nod, as his eyes concentrated at the bird ahead “Episcopus, do you find me to be lacking a particular insight on certain ecclesiastical matters?” Alfred chuckled “Ich am sure that you wouldn’t be here, as the High Pontiff which only GOD ordains, not any other human..” he paused “if it weren’t for your insights, Your Holiness.” “Hmm.” Owyn III would freeze, putting his hand on the trigger “How about my style of leadership. The way I handle my responsibilities?” Alfred nodded once more “Nobody is perfect. But yours is satisfying and brings success, nein?” “Why then.” Owyn III would pull the trigger, the bolt penetrating the bird’s neck “Did I find you in opposition to nearly all my proposals?” Manfried eyed Alfred out of curiosity, as Antonius swallowed in anticipation: it had after all been a surprise for some in the Curia that a staunch ally of the High Pontiff turned against all of his proposals. The Bishop of Henrikev would clear his throat, now looking at the solemn face of Owyn as he had lowered his crossbow “Your Holiness, these were just mein honest responses. The geist of your proposals were good. But the way they were worded were too vague for my support. I hope you aren’t taking this personally?” Owyn III sighed, now fully looking at Alfred “Of course not. I called a council to hear what you had to say, not to hear my thoughts spoken through your mouth.” “Exactly Your Holiness.” Antonius smiled, clasping his hands behind his back “this is no different from when the Curia disagrees with you, no?” “Yeah, yeah.” Owyn III chuckled slightly, reloading his crossbow “I suppose I should be desensitized to disagreements by now.” “I’m happy that you’re not, Your Holiness.” Manfried interjected “A human Pontiff is the best thing the faith can wish for.” And with that, the quartet of fatigued clerics would return to their carriages: heading home to their respective dioceses. Throughout the journey Owyn III struggled to place the council in his head. He felt disappointed at the results, but he didn’t regret proposing them. He felt solemn, yet reassured by the words of his clergy. “I guess it was a defeat.” he mumbled to himself, placing his head against the carriage window “but an okay one, I suppose.”

  10. "Auditor, I ask you to read the proposal more carefully. In the situation that they somehow logically lead to your interpretation as spoken, I humbly ask you to convene with me and compare the intention with the interpretation. Because I assure you, this proposal by no means shall lead to the excommunication of those that question the legitimacy of the High Pontiff alone. There are other criteria to be considered as well. Consider it a specification from just 'The Church', to 'The Church & The High Pontiff' as well. The stipulation will not, if it passes this council, lead to the blanket excommunication of dissent: or, be utilized as a weapon against individual dissenters. It is solely meant to close an ecclesiastical loophole our colleagues in the Curia claimed to have been troubled by in prior cases."

  15. In response to Monsignor Armas @frill, His Holiness would address the individual points mentioned. "The construct of this council is lacking and its content outrageous. It is the nature of an ecumenical council to have quorum of three-quarters of the priesthood and we have severely restricted the presence to five cardinals of the septarchy and five bishops. To be both binding by the laws of the faith and keeping in harmony enough that the bishops are both aware of and accepting of the laws they expect their own flocks to follow, you must allow them to be present among us." Such is allowed. "No -I see no reason to call an ecumenical council to change the font or aesthetics of script of the current codices." This council overlaps two procedures: that of Diets as we have witnessed in Helena, and that of econumical councils that we have witnessed in Providence. Henceforth, proposals such as these belong here as well. "No - Both Jorenus and Providentia are states ruled by a Canonist monarch so fulfil the criteria of prince-archdiocese. The only defining extent documents for Albarosa do not qualify it as such." Only Albarosa is a Prince-Archdiocese, the rest are not: this stipulation would make their existence and jurisdictions permanent, so that a future High Pontiff cannot weaken or strengthen one over the other without assent from his clergy. "No - This proposition is dangerously vague and I cannot assent to it without exhaustive clarification of what is to be modified, to the exact wording." The Prelate of the Sisterhood currently is not mentioned in Canon Law, neither is our Pontifical Legate. This is outdated and needs an update: you are looking into this wrong, Episcopus. "No - It is the nature of those blessed by the church to be responsible for one miracle. It is not the criteria for sainthood but the sainthood of these individuals that must be redressed." Sure. "No - There are already provisions for those inciting contempt of or sedition against the Church. It is the first crime against virtue in Canon law. Refusing communion for those that express doubt will turn the faith into fools and dogmatists as even the most pious and reverent question things. I am at all impasses against enshrining contemporary politics into law and see this as nothing more than a will for the Pontiff to expedite the removal of dissenting voices from the fair courts of the Mother Church. To increase what penalty there is from a hearing of the ecclesiastical court to excommunication ad initio is a folly that will send every acolyte out of the faith within weeks of them joining it. Only fools do not have doubts and we do not want to be a faith of fools, the tools of the faith allow us to mediate and find right penance for those questioning the legitimacy of any organ of the church. Excommunication does not meet that healing end and simply removes them from communion and the eye, a sweeping under the rug." Fair, although you have misunderstood this stipulation. We have seen that the definitions as perscribed in Canon Law are vague. When His Holiness, the entire Synod and Curia, all Archdioceses & dioceses agree that two individuals were schismatic -- but due to a technicality in wording, we could not declare them such, we should feel the need to resolve the stipulations that led to this ecclesiastically legal limbo. No, this would not mean that when someone signs a petition or disagrees with my policy, as you are now, would be excommunicated. It would however mean that if someone acts schismatic, but only targets His Holiness and not the institution as a whole, we can still prosecute him accordingly: or declare him as excommunicated, which a schismatic de facto is until penance. "No - The canon law already outlines and clarifies the purpose of pontifical letters. To refer to them as breve is a description of their nature; they are brief and subsequently not as solemn as bullae." There is no issue that I can foresee by including this new method of communication in Canon Law that describes all other methods of ecclesiastical correspondence. "No - Book VI, Title II. Chapter III is explicit in its reference to the purpose of minor bullae as those issued by provincial pastors for their provinces for matters that may not supersede or conflict with canon law or golden bullae. They are minor in their nature due to being promulgated by a pastor instead of the pontiff himself, so the name minor bull must remain and be used in writing." I refer you to the words of the wise Monsignor de Bourdon. "No - Richard Reden and Lemuel Lengford, whoever these men may be, have no record of active worship nor interacting with the faith so I would struggle to acknowledge them as possessing virtue more than the average man. In the case of your friend Lengford, would pity what fool who prays for the intercession of a politician through prayer. Veneration is final and may not be revoked unless there are factual errors at play, to use it as a folly and political reward to your Everardine political era peers is a stain on the escutcheon of this pontificate. I understand that you may have longing for nations of yore and a love of old homes, but the church is not a tool of personal reward for old peers. Do not sully the realm of the spiritual with rewards for your temporal friends and venerate those worthy of veneration instead." As for Richard de Reden, I again refer you to the words of the wise Monsignor de Bourdon. As for Lemuel de Langford, he was the Vicar of Ves under my tenure as Prince-Archbishop of Albarosa & Erasmus' tenure as the Bishop of Ves. He aided greatly in the expansion of the Kaedreni clergy and ensured that the young Ministry of Justice honored ecclesiastical interests. He was the chief figure to normalize relations between these two institutions after the Károly trial, and during his tenure in the House of Commons he staunchly defended Canonist interests. I will tolerate your implicit jabs towards my integrity in the spirit of free discourse Auditor, but I implore you to inquire better about my relationships to these folk before tainting our discussions with weak presumptions on motive and character. Let us share a good drink and Hyspian meal after this. "No - you ascribe no miracles to these people, just a list of names. There is far more to sainthood than being a name alone. Should these become private petitions that the curia may work over, investigate and vote upon, then that will be a worthwhile cause, but it is a fool’s errand to busy an ecumenical council with matters so spurious, vague and severe. Those interested in beatification or canonisation of these individuals may make individual petitions that elucidate their merit but it is not the place of an ecumenical council to expedite them so." For everyone besides John of Carnatia, we have received petitions and private letters outlining their miracles and histories: something you have had access to as well. In the case of John of Carnatia, we are awaiting for the author's petition to arrive: which should be well within the duration of this council.
  16. THE FIRST ECUMENICAL COUNCIL OF ALBAROSA IN THE DIOCESE OF HYSPIA, OSANORA The citizens of Hyspia looked confused, as carriages upon carriages would park around the bustling Sutican city of Osanora. With candles and oil lamps lighting up various sections of the large desert: the crews would work to install one grandiose tent rivaling the size of palaces. Jokingly, this monstrosity of a tent would be called ‘Fort Hyspia’. It was placed in the desert to serve as a neutral ground between all dioceses. ‘Fort Hyspia’ in the desert besides the City of Osanora, 1804 As the framework of the tent began to take shape, crewmen & caterers would work to prepare the interiors: lavishly decorating the walls with silken curtains, the tables with crystal glasses and ashtrays. Carriages carrying barrels of water and other beverages were brought, as a separate tent functioning as the kitchen was constructed besides it. There, the local cuisine of each delegation would be made: in hopes to make this five-day stay bearable. It would take a day before everything was finished, for the esteemed papal delegations from all dioceses to arrive. His Holiness, flanked by his Monsignors & Chamberlain Carlos, would slowly walk towards his throne within the tent. After taking off his Roche-bans and placing his cane against the table, he would beckon for all attendees to sit down. The nuns then hurried to bring the documents to every delegation, while the hired caterers poured a variety of local drinks all around. The Pontifical Chamberlain @Proddy took this opportunity to read out the guest list, asking if they were present: DELEGATION FROM PROVIDENTIA His Eminence Manfried Cardinalis Providentia @GoldWolfGaming His Eminence Amadeus Cardinalis Nescia @Caranthir_ His Excellency the Apostle-General Armande-Philippe Episcopus Metz, @LithiumSedai DELEGATION FROM JORENUS His Eminence Benedict Cardinalis Jorenus @Piov His Eminence Ailred Cardinalis Reinmar @argonian The Right Reverend Alfred Episcopus Henrikev @repl1ca The Right Reverend Otho Episcopus Valwyck @Drumoldth DELEGATION FROM ALBAROSA His Eminence Pelagius Cardinalis Albarosa @Julio ツ The Right Reverend Francisco Episcopus Hyspia @Timer5011 The Right Reverend Vicary Episcopus Rochefort @frill The Right Reverend Adelric Episcopus Esbec @MadOne OBSERVERS [Can participate, but cannot vote]. The Esteemed Monsignor Robert de Bourdon @Tiresiam The Esteemed Monsignor Edmund Myre @Old Man Boiendl The Esteemed Monsignor Fiske Vanir @Sander After all delegates were accounted for, His Holiness would rise from his throne to address the delegations: “Dearly beloved, Our High Pontificate has shown a continuous effort to reform the Holy Mother Church into an institution that can compete with the rampant secularization of our congregation’s governments. We have achieved historical levels of inter-diocesan cooperation and the expansion of our faith. Today, this council is summoned to set forward the direction of our Holy Mother Church. With our petitions, proposals & reforms together: we shall chart a course of great importance in our fight for humanity’s soul. I ask of all my esteemed Eminences & Reverends to put the faith and wellbeing of your congregations first, and to vote in absence of temporal influences and allegiances. In this first round, we shall discuss and organize all petitions, proposals & reforms that we wish to vote on in this council. Then, in the second round, we shall provide them in a listed fashion for all attendees to vote on. Let me now begin this week’s affair by introducing a document outlining my own.” His Holiness would nod towards the clerical staff, who would quickly pass on the papers around the tables. In the meantime, delegations were busy sorting their own proposals: awaiting their turn to speak. Once the attendees received the document, it would look like this: "To the esteemed attendees of the first ECUNEMICAL COUNCIL OF ALBAROSA; Do find the listed proposals of SANCTITAS PONTIFEX MAXIMUS OWYN III below. 17. THE WEALTH OF THE FAITH CULTURES OF OUR DIOCESES Authored by Sanctitas Pontifex Maximus Owyn III TABLE OF CONTENTS I). Preamble II). The Archdiocese of Jorenus III). The Princely Archdiocese of Albarosa IV). The Holy See, or Archdiocese of Providentia PREAMBLE The Canonist Faith is the centerpiece of humanity as a race and society: establishing the basic notions of morality, sin, good & evil with the necessary authority to maintain them. High Pontiffs came and went, and with them came an ever-changing mosaic of dioceses and shepherds. Throughout the centuries, successive heads of faith & dioceses maintained consistent traditions and attitudes that became entrenched within that particular clergy. Kralta and the Carrions are no more, but the Ruskan traditions shine ever radiantly in the halls of Haeseni faith. Kaedrin may no longer exist, but its Owynist traditions are alive and well among the newer generations of clergymen. Legacies live on and they, along with rites & history itself, form a culture we can recognize and identify with. In this publication, the High Pontificate of Owyn III seeks to chronicle these differences between the clergy for educational purposes. THE ARCHDIOCESE OF JORENUS DIOCESE OF HENRIKEV & VALWYCK The clergy of Hanseti-Ruska have been predominantly a pillar of stability for the Holy Mother Church: where a tight and nationalist society centers its identity around being Canonist, conservative & familial to their brethren. They are the most homogenous clergy, and are protective of their ways & clergymen. They adamantly represent the more conservative lobbies within the Holy Mother Church, one where those of the faith refrain from temporal politicking or reforming to accommodate changing social views. Koenas Isabel Barbanov before the casket of the Queen-Mother, Karosgrad Basilica, 356 ES. The clergy of Jorenus has been intimately interwoven with the Barbanov dynasty & the people of Hanseti-Ruska for aeons: finding themselves in a stable and mutually affectionate relationship where neither Bishops nor Princes are strangers in the home of one another. The local nobility almost universally has, or are, involving peers in the clergy. And as they take seats in the duma, act as advisors to the Monarchy or aid local figures in rites & festivities: the line between citizen and clergyman is nearly non-existent. GENERAL INFORMATION I). Language The languages spoken in the Jorenus Clergy are predominantly Raevir, Waldenian & New Marian, although their rites are consistently held in Ecclesiastical Raev. The representation of Raev as an ecclesiastical language varied from High Pontiff to High Pontiff. II). Calendar Unlike the other dioceses, Jorenus conforms to the calendar of Hanseti-Ruska which counts from the final revelation of Exalted Sigismund: a figure deemed essential in the existence and continuation of Haeseni folk. Where for all dioceses it’s 1800, for Jorenus it would be 353 Ehr Sigismund (ES). III). Aesthetics The Clergy of Jorenus, with exception of the Wigbrechtian monastics, adhere to traditional Haeseni notions when it comes to art or interiors. They are in comparison to their contemporaries distinctly traditional, and opt for symbolism more so than realism in their artworks. The final revelation of Ex. Sigismund, 0 ES. Andrik 'I' Vydra displayed in the Basilica of Karosgrad, 354 ES. Uniquely, the artworks made by the Jorenus clergy are extravagant in colour & detail: but do not display the figures or events extravagantly themselves. ECCLESIASTICAL MOVEMENTS In recent history, the clergy of Jorenus has been subject to, or has partaken in, several ecclesiastical movements that aimed at the legitimization of certain rights or interpretations. Their reception and eventual success are varying. RUSKAN ORTHODOXY is the most famous ecclesiastical movement that still finds support among the clergy & Haeseni locals. Although it has enjoyed technical legality in the eyes of the Holy Mother Church, its association with the Lendian movement had the Church wary of the rite’s revival. Modern clergymen such as Archiepiscopus Benedict of Jorenus, Episcopus Alfred of Henrikev & Otho of Valwyck seek to heal the stigma through its proper orthodox practice. THE RUSKAN RITE is the revived rite of Ruskan Orthodoxy, culturally representing the traditional practices of the Haeseni, in particular the Raevir, within the faith. In the Secundus Bulla Aurea Albarosa, His Holiness Owyn III appointed a commission to develop new handbooks & missals involving the native languages & locally popular rites. LENDIANISM is a declared heretical ecclesiastical movement, which rose up in opposition to the cordon sanitaire against the Archdiocese of Jorenus under His Holiness James II. As a reactionary sect, it emphasized a fusion of nationalism & theology: declaring Exalted Sigismund the most important Exalted, and ignoring saints that were not related to the Highlander people. WIGBRECHTIANS are a monastic subgroup of the Jorenus Clergy that enjoy great cultural popularity, going so far to influence the morality & fashion of folk outside of this movement. They believe that humility and vows of poverty bring a Canonist closer to GOD, and that any unnecessary wealth acts as sinful indulgence. Although there have been non- Haeseni Wigbrechtians, the location of their Abbey in consecutive capitals of Hanseti-Ruska made them a distinctly Haeseni organization. CELEBRATED SAINTS Although all dioceses celebrate all saints, some are more culturally or historically important than others. There exists a great harmony between the government, the people & the clergy in who they deem as Highlander icons of the faith. St. Karl of Petrus is the namesake of the Brotherhood of St. Karl and an icon of dedication to Haeseni people & and its continuation. His sacrifices to the Haeseni are taught as examples of exemplar service to one's state and kindred. St. Henry Otto of Alban is the patron saint of Hanseti-Ruska’s capital cities & the namesake of its current diocese Henrikev: his crucial role in governance under his cousin Koeng Stephan and opposition against corruption makes him the ancient model to the Haeseni’s modern morality. St. Joren of Paradisus is the patron saint of Hanseti-Ruska and the namesake of the Archdiocese of Jorenus. His Kingdom of Edel is believed to be the first Highlander nation, and the origin of what is now the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. St. Theodosius of Istiam is believed the father of what we now call Ruskan Orthodoxy, and is an important historical figure due to his diligence as a clergyman in Kralta: where he had baptized thousands, and brought many to the faith. St. Wilfriche of Hanseti is believed to be the father of the Flotsamites: a Ruskan Orthodox fellowship that withstood the Setherinic invasion. He is furthermore known to have attempted to colonize Kaedrin with Raevir settlers. THE PRINCELY ARCHDIOCESE OF ALBAROSA DIOCESE OF HYSPIA, ROCHEFORT & THE REINMARIAN MISSION TO ESBEC The clergy of the former Kaedrin have, despite their relatively short lived existence, served as a vanguard of a more politically assertive clergy: who at one point stood as the most powerful group within the Commonwealth of Kaedrin. The Albarosan clergy are distinctly diverse, as changing borders & dioceses brought a variety of cultures under their care. They stand as a more centrist force within the Holy Mother Church, as they hope to make it more competitive to an increasingly secularizing liberal society. Winston Rothesay, Richard Helvets & Laurence August Pruvia, heads of the new Commonwealth, 1764. The clergy of Albarosa originally consisted of Rhoswenii & Aesterwaldian lineages almost exclusively, until the dissolution of the Commonwealth made them a diocese with no concrete borders. Under His Holiness Owyn III, the Prince-Archbishopric of Albarosa began to house a more diverse crowd: from the Hyspians in Sutica, the Reinmarians or Heussians in Esbec to the Adunian settlers of Redenford. Unlike Jorenus, Albarosa today is an identity based solely on political and theological notions, and not on ethnicity or specific cultures in particular. GENERAL INFORMATION I). Language The languages spoken in the Albarosan clergy are predominantly Standard Imperial, Hyspian, Waldenian/Heussian & Adunian dialects. Due to a large majority primarily speaking the same tongue as their Fidei Defensor, most correspondence and documents happen in Standard Imperial. II). Borders Unlike the other Dioceses, the borders of the Princely Archdiocese of Albarosa have been splintered since the dissolution of the Commonwealth of Kaedrin. Although Golden Bulls simply specify that it encompasses everything beyond the Imperial Capital that is in Oren, it also houses displaced folk such as the Hyspians or finds evangelical missions under its jurisdiction like the one in Sutica. This renders its borders and jurisdictions ever-changing. III). Aesthetics The Clergy of Albarosa utilizes a fusion between standard Imperial art & that of the Rhoswenii Cultural Renaissance of the past century. They are in comparison to their contemporaries rather modern in style, opting for realism or statements of power rather than theological symbolism or artistic humility. Anton Cardinalis Reinmar visits the Albarosan Clergy, 1765. Richard de Reden's portrait in Owyn III's pontifical office Unsurprisingly, the Albarosan artistic style displays rooms & individuals as pompous and extravagant, making it representative of the elitist and usually noble origins of this particular clergy. ECCLESIASTICAL MOVEMENTS Despite the Albarosan clergy being new, their interwoven relationship to the former Kaedrin makes them the successors to a troubled ecclesiastical history that had existed since the Chivay Empire. Although nearly all are heresies to date, only one managed to be successfully rehabilitated under the guidance of Cardinals Amadeus, Erasmus & Laurence. OWYNISM is an ancient interpretation of the faith that heavily favours the teachings of Exalted Owyn, which rose to prominence during the colonial apartheid regimes of the first Kaedreni state. It emphasizes the purity of the faithful, the inherent evil of other races and the divine mandate of the Chivay Emperors to be GOD’s representatives instead of the High Pontiff, also known as Caesaropapism. THE OWYNIST RITE is the rehabilitated version of Owynism, as it abandons its caesaropapist & racial doctrines for a more ritual emphasis like shaving heads or burning sinful items. It conforms to the teachings of the Holy Mother Church on matters of ecclesiastical authority & other races, although most of its worshippers actively promulgate sentiments of monarchical absolutism & homogenous human societies. LUCIENISM is an Owynist-esque cultist belief that originated from the Order of St. Lucian and the Order of the White Rose before that, where swamp-settling soldiers adhered fervently to caesaropapist & racially discriminatory notions. Due to their rejection of Pontifical authority and militant bloodlust against non-Canonists, it faced greater persecution than the Owynist cultists. CELEBRATED SAINTS Although all dioceses celebrate all saints, some are more culturally or historically important than others. Due to the diverse nature of the Albarosan clergy, a variety of Saints from a variety of origins are universally deemed prominent within the entire archdiocese. St. Peter of Gaekrin was the founding father of the Order of the White Rose, its successor state of Kaedrin & the first Emperor of the Imperial Chivay Dynasty. His leadership and cultural magnificence greatly defines the worldview of the Albarosan clergy today, as he remains their icon of an exemplar human. St. Thomas of Gaekrin was the co-founder of the Order of the White Rose & second Emperor of the Imperial Chivay dynasty. His crusades against Elves and the teachings that stem from that are the basis of the Humanity First doctrine to Canonism from the Albarosan clergy. St. Lucien of Ulmsbottom was another co-founder of the Order of the White Rose & the architect behind a great restoration of the faith & Holy Mother Church. His act of revitalizing Canonism to its peak of strength serves as inspiration, if not the motivation, for the mildly reformist attitudes within the Archdiocese. St. Michel of Cordobe was the foremost leader of Everard II’s Inquisition, hailing from a small island off the coast of Couentre. He is famous for his work in opposition to the Turnbull heretics and pagans in the time of the Sixth Empire, the militant model of what we consider the Auditor of the Tribunal today. He serves as a cultural representative of Hyspian Canonists. St. Edmond of Lachsin was a soldier of the Order of the White Rose, and is considered the founding father of the first Auverginian community, being the culturally representative saint for them. THE ARCHDIOCESE OF PROVIDENCE THE SEAT OF THE FIDEI DEFENSOR The Holy See is deemed to be the standard clergy, as it represents all clergymen and finds itself placed in the Imperial Capital: where already a fusion of cultures identified as ‘Imperial’ reign supreme. Despite this, there are attributable traits and aesthetics exclusively found among the clergy of Providence. They are furthermore the bastion of the zeitgeist of the modern Empire: standing proudly as advocates for a modern, milder & apolitical Holy Mother Church that adapts to modernism instead of combating it. The coronation of His Imperial Majesty Peter III The Clergy of Providence has been consistent partners to the Imperial House of Novellen and its many cultural leaders underneath -- playing an important role under His Holiness James II to establish the philosophy of Providence, and remaining supportive of the many democratic institutions that came to be under their reign. Much like the Imperial Throne besides them, the Providence Clergy perceive the Holy Mother Church from a centralist & legalist worldview: where all must adapt to the central authority, instead of vice versa. GENERAL INFORMATION I). Language The Clergy of Providence speak Standard Imperial, although visitors or foreign appointments to the Holy See may bring their native tongue with them. II). The Holy See The Archdiocese of Providence is the only one that houses the Holy See, where the High Pontiff & his Curia operate from. The reason for this is because the Holy Orenian Empire is, upon the coronation of each Emperor and Empress, declared the Fidei Defensor or ‘Defender of the Faith’. Traditionally the Holy See is located where the government of the Fidei Defensor is seated. III). Aesthetics The art of the Holy See is heavily influenced by the artistic trends that exist within the upper Echelons of Orenian society & the Imperial household. Empress Anne delivers Providence, 1800 Cardinal Amadeus, Supreme Court Justice, 1802. These art styles vary between symbolic displays to accurate depictions, although both are consistently realistic in their portrayal of humanity and their fashion as it was during the time of painting. IV). Universality Due to the Archdiocese of Providentia being the seat of ecclesiastical & imperial power, the neutrality and ‘universality’ of the clergy there is a strongly enforced doctrine. For if any priest or Bishop in Providentia was to partake in certain political or cultural subgroups, it would raise the perception that His Holiness & His Curia are doing so as well -- risking the potential alienation of other dioces
  18. THE FIRST HOMILY OF PROVIDENTIA By Sanctitas Pontifex Maximus OWYN III AS TRANSCRIBED BY MANFRIED ARCHIEPISCOPUS PROVIDENTIA IN THE CAPITAL CITY OF PROVIDENCE, HOLY ORENIAN EMPIRE THE TRANSCRIPT EDITION Dear Imperial Majesty Emperor Joseph of Novellen; The most esteemed houses of the Holy Orenian Empire; & my beloved Orenian colleagues from Providentia, Albarosa, Reinmar & Rochefort. Humanity has marched into foreign territory -- embracing ways, philosophies and prosperity unseen before. Breaking the robust and repetitive cycles of history, against all odds, humanity chose a different path. From a primitive Lord-Protectorate we went to a young democracy at war, to a now bustling center of statecraft in the prime of its golden age. St. Adrian would be proud at the progress achieved by the Novellen dynasty, although they did not cultivate this apex of humanity alone. By their side stood great architects of statecraft such as Simon Basrid, Sir Frederick Armas & General DeNurem: who each planted the necessary seeds from which these diligent institutions began to grow. Then came a generation born into this changing zeitgeist: from Jonah Stahl Elendil to Franz de Sarkozy, George Galbraith to Ciprian de la Baltas, who nurtured these saplings into bountiful trees of egalitarian democracy and humane governance. They are but examples of the hundreds of Orenians who, through diligence and commitment alone, architected an Empire with unparalleled welfare and success. Any man can, despite his peerage and connections, partake in a discourse where he shall be listened to. Any culture can ascend into prominence amongst the tapestry of man, with discrimination on the basis of mankind’s differences now ancient history. The Rhenyari can stand as proud peers and bureaucrats, in a society that speaks many languages. GOD creates a balance in his world however, as paradise among mortals would make pursuing the Seven Skies an unnecessary pastime. The extravagant wealth in governance and Minas achieved in Oren: ride together with an elaborate challenge to morality and piety. Why would man look to GOD for purpose and success, if he is seemingly surrounded by it? GOD does not blame a man for drawing this conclusion, but only wishes to make him see the light. The pillars upon which great Sovereigns such as Emperor Peter III & Empress Anne the August built this empire are made and maintained by Canonist hands and stones. Throughout the greatest challenges we faced as a people, it was our faith that could transcend the cultural and political differences between ourselves. And it shall be the faith today that can uniquely rise to the occasion as a peacekeeper between Canonist peoples. There is purpose to the Holy Mother Church beyond the rituals it is most known for. Whenever our authority is low, moral anarchy conquers the streets. Whenever a Bishop falters, his congregation withers. Such is an enormous mandate that demands incredible diligence and care from our clergy, who just as its congregations can falter to sin and errors. But to throw rocks at the redeemable souls who succumb to error, is to be an unforgiving Canonist: a paradoxical state of being. Instead one must aim its passions to change a society that, tragically, seeks to replace GOD with the material and the temporary. It is easy to critique a clergyman for not combatting this with the methods or attitude you might prefer, but it takes greater courage and reflection to discover what your role is in a zeitgeist going further from GOD. Model yourself after pious icons like Joseph II & Simon Basrid, and use the instruments GOD has given you to succeed in a more profound & fulfilling way. If you are a proprietor of a settlement, follow the wisdom of Municipalities such as Esbec & Redenford in pursuing the creation of a diocese: which shall bless them with clerical visitors, festivities, resources & nurturing in perpetuity. The Holy Mother Church cares deeply for the prosperity of all Canonist settlements, and rewards all that see to the creation of a house of GOD amidst their bustling streets. If you are the elder of a family, look no further than burghers like Galbraith or royals such as the Novellens for exemplar figures of piety & diligence. No matter the wealth or stature, GOD and His Institution embraces you fully. Anyone is worth the time of His Holiness and his clergy, any man is esteemed enough to join the house of GOD. There is no transaction in the love between the Faith and its faithful. And if you are a Canonist, understand that GOD has a plan for you, even if he seems farther away in a society filled with temptation and distraction. Popular or outcast, eloquent or mute, wealthy or poor: GOD and His Church perceive you as a valued Canonist with a justification to exist, with a right to pursue a better life and a fulfilling purpose. Let not the coin, but GOD, buy you a better life. Te Deum. GODANI JEST WIELKI PONTIFEX MAXIMUS OWYN III [!] A seal displaying Ex. Owyn & Ex. Sigismund seals this Homily.
  19. "If only I could attend." His Holiness Owyn III pouted, still in a bedridden state out of precaution "They better save some fish for me.." "We have some fish here, Your Holiness." Alfred Episcopus Henrikev would chuckle, pointing at the kitchen, "Not the same Alfred, there is something about them being freshly fried..."
  20. His Holiness receives the petition with great curiosity, his eyes immediately recognizing the Kaedreni style of envelope & handwriting. "Ademar of Owynsburg.." he mutters as his eyes dart all around the short missive. Perhaps out of the enforced boredom from his bedridden state, perhaps just out of sheer enthusiasm: Owyn III would directly respond. "To the esteemed Ademar of Owynsburg, The Holy Mother Church smiles upon receiving petitions such as these. For young clergymen such as yourself to be well familiarized with the history of our Faith, carried by the many icons that are canonized or are ought to be, is a blessing that any High Pontiff could only dream of. Upon my recovery I shall see to the process of these canonizations with my Curia. I will guarantee you that Vytenis of Visigia shall be on that list, and that you will be the first to hear of the eventual verdict. May you carry the strength of St. Peter & the wisdom of St. Adrian onwards. Te Deum. PONTIFEX MAXIMUS OWYN III"
  21. "Excellent." His Holiness Owyn III smiled, reading over the apology "Even our own are beholden to the standards of Faith, morality & justice. Father Carlos has not disappointed me in his pursuit of penance and reflection. A true Hyspian".
  22. His Holiness Owyn III would light a candle at the altar in the Karosgrad Basilica, still wounded and in pain, looking at the banners of every august house known in Hanseti-Ruska. His gaze stopped at the one of Kovachev, gently moving with the breezes from the opened door. A sudden sorrow befell upon him, as he turned to his Monsignor: "We must visit these families sometime de Bourdon, they might need hope and prayers more than we think."
  23. SECUNDUS BULLA AUREA ALBAROSA The Second Golden Bull of Albarosa OWYN III, pontifex maximus, servus servorum Dei, episcopus Sancta Sedes, Sends his greetings to all the faithful of the realm. Since a thing just and honorable is asked of us by GOD: to promulgate His Word, protect His Faith & defend the Sanctity of His Flock, GOD demands that these missions are led to its proper conclusion through the care of our office, and the piety of our faithful. GOD’s institution, the Holy Mother Church, requires infrastructure to properly evangelize its Ministry. The protection of His Holiness and clergy, and the enforcement of ecclesiastical law, remain one of the highest organizational priorities since the inception of the Canon Faith. The paladins of GOD cannot stand neglected, for we may jeopardize the continued strength and integrity that they are to maintain. The High Pontificate of Owyn III understands this profoundly, and thus, shall publish in his SECUNDS BULLA AUREA ALBAROSA the final reforms it had envisioned for what is currently the Palatinate Guard. Te deum. What really happened on the papal flight to Karosgrad... TABLE OF CONTENTS I). The Supreme Order of Ex. Owyn II). Hierarchy & Structure of the Supreme Order III). Evangelical expansion into the H.O.E. IV). The Pontifical Commission of the Ruskan Rite V). Expansion of the Ecclesiastical Apparatus VI). Saint petitions & calendar reform SECTION I. THE SUPREME ORDER OF EXALTED OWYN The Coat of Arms of The Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn The Knightly Order of All-Saints, also known as the Palatinate Guard, is to be nominally abolished and to be replaced with the Supreme Order of Ex. Owyn immediately. The Supreme Order of Ex. Owyn shall inherit all mandates, authority & autonomy originally established by His Holiness, James II. The Knight-Regent of the Palatinate Guard, Armande-Philippe Talraen de Rennes @LithiumSedai is to remain as His Holiness’ direct representative and delegated authority on the leadership and other affairs pertaining to the Supreme Order of Ex. Owyn. The title & styling of ‘His Excellency the Knight-Regent’ shall be nominally abolished and replaced with the new title of: “His Reverend Excellency the Apostolic General, Custodian of the Faith & Sword of Exalted Owyn.” To ensure that whoever ascends to this divine privilege to serve as Apostolic General upholds all Canonist values and bounds that may go beyond his oath within the Supreme Order of Ex. Owyn, the Apolostic General must, upon his ascension, be appointed to a titular Diocese, rendering him a Bishop in name under GOD. These titular dioceses are: the Bishoprics of Luciensport, Peremont, Brelus or Metz. As of publication of the SECUNDUS BULLA AUREA ALBAROSA, the leadership of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn shall consist of: His Reverend Excellency the Apostolic General, Custodian of the Faith, Sword of Exalted Owyn, Bishop of Metz; Armande-Philippe Talraen de Rennes @LithiumSedai Their Excellencies, the Equestor-Imperators of the Supreme Order; Holy Sir Nicolas Barclay, Equestor-Imperator & Praefectus Castrorum @Burnsider. Holy Sir Theophilos Komnenos, Equestor-Imperator @dmitris. SECTION II. THE HIERARCHY & STRUCTURE OF THE SUPREME ORDER Let it be known furthermore that beneath the Sanctitas Pontifex Maximus & His Reverend Excellency the Apostolic General shall be a hierarchy established for the functionality of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn: from where its appointments and resignations fall under the direct discredition of the aforementioned. The hierarchy of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn shall consist of: I). Sanctitas Pontifex Maximus II). Unoathed These ranks are assigned to non-members of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn, or those that have not yet attempted entry into knighthood or to become oathbound, but who do participate in battles and operations. These are usually battle-competent clergy, nuns or laity or soldiers with conflicting responsibilities and/or oaths. [!] The current commissioned uniforms of each rank. SECTION III. EVANGELICAL EXPANSION IN THE H.O.E. The High Pontificate of Owyn III congratulates His Imperial Majesty on his successful settlement initiatives all around the Holy Orenian Empire. Unfortunately these settlements have not taken their due diligence with contacting the Holy Mother Church to ask for a present clergyman. In accordance with Orenian Law, it falls upon the High Pontificate of Owyn III to take that initiative ourselves. Which a variety of Monsignors, Curiates & Bishops will be sent on delegations throughout the Empire to map all settlements, establish their piety & advise on future Canonist expansion. The current missions are: To Esbec, Bishop Adelric of Reinmar. To Redenford, Bishop Vicary of Rochefort. To Dobrov, Equester-Imperator Komnenos. To Talon’s Port, Equester-Imperator Vuiller. These missions, although through varying means, are intended to rapidly establish ecclesiastical infrastructure outside of Providence. It is hoped that this will lead to a more diverse clergy and an all encompassing Holy Mother Church that can aid in the cultural development of these settlements. SECTION IV. THE PONTIFICAL COMMISSION ON THE RUSKAN RITE Benedict Cardinalis Jorenus had, with the mandate of His Holiness, begun an initiative to chronicle & spread the Ruskan Rite throughout the Highlandic Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. His Holiness is pleased with his initial progress and shall devote further ecclesiastical manpower & infrastructure to the initiative, establishing the following commission: Chairman of the Commission; Benedict Cardinalis Jorenus Vice-Chairman of the Commission; Alfred Episcopus Henrikev Commissioners: Ailred Cardinalis Reinmar Otho Episcopus Valwyck Vicary Episcopus Rochefort Rev. Msgr. Robert de Bourdon Deacon Stephen Carolus Deacon Elijah of Huppo Rev. Karl Kortrevich Rev. Yaromir of Karosgrad Together, on the basis of the First Decree of Jorenus (355 E.S.) & the Primus Bulla Aurea Albarosa (355 E.S.), they will see to the creation of the Book of the Ruskan Rite which shall entail: I). An instruction manual on Ruskan ceremonies. II). The history of the Ruskan Rite. III). Preparation for Ruskan festivities to be registered on the new Calendar of Saints. IV). Development of ‘general aesthetics’ for those practising Canonism through the Ruskan rites. This process will be used as a model for the other rites to be similarly enshrined into the evangelization within the Holy Mother Church: namely the rehabilitated Owynist rites, and the niche cultural rites of Akritians & Hyspians. SECTION V. EXPANSION OF THE ECCLESIASTICAL APPARATUS Prelate of the Clergy Alfred Episcopus Henrikev, together with Vice-Chancellor Manfried & Apostolic General Armande-Philippe have greatly expanded the internal administrative organization of the Holy Mother Church: a development greatly nurtured by His Holiness. Each member of the Curia now receives occasional suitcases containing reports on ecclesiastical affairs, ensuring that all dioceses are equally informed on the developments and tasks at hand. These are called the ‘Albarosan suitcases’, in reference to the tradition that had started in the Albarosan Clergy several decades ago. The Prelate shall establish a new Canonist census, Marriage Registry & Clerical Registry to ensure that the Holy Mother Church has accurate numbers and documents necessary to fulfill its roles in civilian society. These will be structured in a durable fashion, and it is hoped that these systems can outlive the many Pontificates to come. The Vice-Chancellor shall work with the diocesan representatives & His Holiness on an universal taxation system that would allow for a central treasury to be established at a later time. Further details will be determined in dialogue with all dioceses, and a proposal will be formed for a new Diet of Bishops at a later date. It is hoped that with the reforms to the Supreme Order of Ex. Owyn and these administrative expansions; His Holiness can mature the internal ecclesiastical organization into something that remains consistent, reliable and functional despite changing jurisdictions & clergymembers. SECTION VI. SAINT PETITIONS & CALENDAR REFORM The High Pontificate of Owyn III is planning sweeping reforms to the current methodology of celebrating, educating about & canonizing saints. The main priority of His Holiness is to rewrite the calendar of saints and divide them on the basis of season, cultural ties & symbolism: so that their celebration at specific dates will either make more sense, or be more applicable to other cultural festivities. In anticipation of His Holiness' first Euconomical Council of Albarosa, the High Pontificate of Owyn III now re-opens the Holy Mother Church for new petitions regarding Sainthood, Veneration or Beautification of historical figures. Each petition shall be handled individually at the aforementioned council. An inquiry into the integrity of records of beautified, venerated and sainted figures shall be held: to ensure that all saints truly have been of cultural remarkability. It would be otherwise unfair if all new candidates for beautification, veneration & sainthood face a heightened level of scrutiny, and require a mandate from the College of Cardinals, while their predecessors in times of great Pontifical authority and inferior recordkeeping have not. There we hope that through this inquiry, which shall have equal cultural representation, will reaffirm that all records are in fact proper. If not, any consequences shall be discussed in the aforementioned council. 24. They were young and energetic, yet stood with great discipline before His Holiness. The nameless recruits simply did what they were told, with their Captains Erik & George observing them closely. Handshake after handshake, a thank you after thank you. His Holiness was pleased with being able to express a fundamental feeling he had carried around. His Knight-Regent though observed them curiously for their formations, as the Abbot & Cardinal made commentary on outfits and colour schemes. Not all were there for the same intentions as His Holiness: but that was okay, as they did not interrupt the ceremony. The ISA to him was something that held a weird place in his heart. He wasn't always supportive of them in spats over the autonomy of Kaedrin perhaps, but they, like any soldier, came through when it was needed. To see young men serve their nation unquestioningly, was sobering. Thoughts of the disfigured Brandt Barclay, or the ISA rescuing the Governor-General's grandchild, a HRA patrol defending him from bandits flew through his head. The funerals, the ceremonies & the parades. Throughout the modern and ancient history of his life: law, order and servitude were virtues that dragged him through any sorrow or trouble. Even if it was just a handshake and a speech. To Owyn III, it was an opportunity to finally express a gratitude that had festered for many years. SECOND PAPAL BRIEF OF 1803, 356 ES Holy Orenian Empire, Providentia @Hunwald@Old Man Boiendl @Froschli @Viggen92 @Julio ツ @LithiumSedai OWYN III, pontifex maximus, servus servorum Dei, episcopus Sancta Sedes, Wishes to inform its congregations of a most productive meeting between His Holiness the High Pontiff & the Holy Orenian Emperor, accompanied by Crown Prince John Charles and Monsignor Ed Myre. This was the first meeting between the Imperial and Ecclesiastical government since the Pontifical enthronement of 1802. The cultural relevance of the Holy Mother Church and the upcoming funeral procession of the late Empress Anne were discussed. The Holy Mother Church is pleased to find that the importance of the faith remains high within the government of Oren, and that in many fields from judicial to spiritual an understanding exists between both parties. While the Holy Mother Church always encourages the representation of its congregations in the state apparatus, something which the late Empress had made possible by establishing a mature Imperial democracy, it leaves them open to hostile discourse which dabbles in secularism and nihilism: something that the Holy Mother Church had been concerned about for decades. However, the Empire and His Imperial Majesty seems to remain intimately interwoven into the Canonist faith: rendering most of these worries, in hindsight, to have been unnecessary. His Holiness hopes that his clergy shall partake in the democratic process more actively, and to become more visible on the streets of Providence. The Holy Mother Church had reaffirmed to His Imperial Majesty its commitment to neutrality, and the hope for continued harmonious relations between the Canonist nations. While each nation has their own obstacles, grudges & differences: they are all GOD's flock, and to His Holiness, valuable humans of cultural and spiritual excellence. In that spirit, His Holiness had been greatly interested in the militaries of Hanseti-Ruska & the Holy Orenian Empire: attending a training of the latter in company of his Knight-Regent, Cardinal Albarosa & Abbot Ademar. After greeting each individually, His Holiness held an impromptu speech regarding the sanctity of service and the gratitude he felt for theirs. Not only are they the blades of the Fidei Defensor, but they like any soldier serve a higher calling: their sovereign, mandated by GOD to bring order and prosperity to his leal subjects and citizens. It is hoped that the Holy Mother Church can resolve its scheduling with Marshal Barclay @Coolcod77soon, as His Holiness hopes to bless the troops of the former Brotherhood of St. Karl and thank them for their performance in Karosgrad in person. In the meantime, it is asked of all clergymen to thank the troops for their service and to diligently provide them sermons and confessions where possible. For not all are willing to give the ultimate sacrifice for their kindred, their nation & their king. Te Deum. PONTIFEX MAXIMUS OWYN III
