  1. Tales of The Mud City Chicago, a city nicknamed America’s Heart for it’s bolstering transport system that effectively linked the entire nation together from land, sea, and air. By the mid 21st century, the mob had more control over the city than the mayor’s office. The final straw occurred in 2061 when the mayor of Chicago bankrupted the city by constructing “The Illinois”, a massive mile-high skyscraper, in a misguided attempt to earn his city some recognition. The leader of the Chicago Outfit (Rumored to be descended from the infamous Al Capone) won the mayoral election in a landslide, effectively turning the entire windy city into mob territory. While the energy crisis of the 2060s ravaged the rest of the world, Chicago managed to stay relatively stable and the Mob reigned supreme until that fateful day; October 23, 2077. What remains of Chicago lives up to the original namesake upon being founded in the early 19th century, The Mud City. For nearly one hundred years a volatile and turbulent storm imbued with radioactive waste had ransacked the city in total reign. The large doses of radiation made it a perfect breeding ground for all breeds of unnatural wildlife and mutated creatures descended from humans that occupied the streets nearly a century ago. Entire city blocks were ravaged by nuclear bombs, buckling the supports of dozens of skyscrapers throughout the entirety of downtown causing a maze-like ‘over-city’ hundreds of feet above the streets. The underground sewers and canals seemingly spew forth new creatures each day, a rapidly increasing number of species from crossbreeds to mutated creatures embedded with radioactive DNA. Nearly a full century, with no end to this vicious cycle. But at long last, sunlight showered the city in its golden glow. In the mid-2160s, the city was rediscovered by several expeditions of various parties; The NCR, The Legion, both the Western and Eastern Brotherhood of Steel, various Commonwealth factions, and dozens of raider cliques that have roamed the midwest for years on end. Now, in 2170, the Tales of The Mud City shall be forged in blood, steel, and greed for all across the midwest to hear. 9. The Antebellum Corporation National Activity: Magnus strode towards the final vessel in a flight of five that were prepared for takeoff, his jacket flapping behind him due to the roaring engines of each of the craft. He turned about, facing Sophos with only about a foot to separate the duo. He reached his arms around the man, the holster on Magnus’ right hip pressing against Sophos as he was still getting used to carrying a weapon. They separated from one another, looking at one another in the eye. “Ad Victoriam. Brother.” Magnus couldn’t help but laugh as he patted Sophos’ shoulder before planting his hand there. “Ad Victoriam.” They each knew what had to happen. Not for humanity, but for survival. For the Union. The engines of each craft streaked through the gaps of the skyscrapers that were all too abundant in the capital of Vilgius. As pre-arranged, all sky-lanes in Vilgius had been closed for the duration of their operation, ensuring a straight and clear path directly towards The Spire. Within one of the crafts, Magnus looked to either of the men beside him. Each was little more than a member of their local policing force, though they were still adorned in a full kit of riot gear, something to intimidate those that would try to stand against them. Magnus was confident in not only himself but the men around him. They had stuck with Sophos despite the council’s treason, and Sophos had trusted every last one of them. That was good enough for Magnus. The landing pads of The Spire were quickly overwhelmed with the craft. No urgent defenses responded as proper clearance was given by each pilot, though upon exiting the vessels around sixty men stormed out of all five craft in total, Magnus taking up the rear. The guards that were currently on duty raised their weapons as each man exited, looking for potential targets if need be. That was until Magnus parted the grouping of loyalists and approached the guard who was, as expected, gobsmacked to the see the dead councilman. “We’re going to need to get in there. Think you can help us out?” As expected with such a company, the elevator ride up the several dozen levels of the spire was quite cramped. With nearly a dozen total of Magnus’ retinue with him, every lone guard that they had confronted laid down their arms without much of a question. It was clear what had happened the moment they saw Magnus alive and well. Though, an issue arose when they attempted to enter the council chamber. It seemed no one had proper access to it, a new security measure made by the council after Magnus’ departure. The neighborhood tech guru attempted to splice the lock, though was soon butted aside by Magnus who withdrew his ‘master key’, as he put it. A lone round through the center of the locking mechanism in the door allowed the men to pry it open with ease, sliding either door to the side and allowing the group their entrance. It seemed as if they had caught the rest of the council in mid-discussion of their current topic of debate. Though the audible gunshot quite obviously had spooked them as all ten remaining members found themselves behind their desks. With haste, each of the ten men were rounded up and placed within the center of the council chamber, some of which suffering a few broken noses or scraped knees as they attempted to resist the loyalists. A particularly distraught looking councilman looked up at Magnus, his lower lip split open and a heavy welt forming on the side of his temple. His large, bulbous glasses were canted to the side, evidently bent from being struck by one of the men. “M-Magnus!? You… NO! YOU’RE DEAD! WE SAW YOU DIE! THE SH-!” His nasally voice begged though his pleads were cut short as the butt of a rifle struck him across his cheek once again, sending his glasses spiraling across the floor away from the council members that were now on their knees. He looked back up at Magnus, as if the very sight of him standing before him was some kind of illusion. After all, the entire vessel falling from the sky with minimal survivors… Magnus’ chances were slim to none. The councilman spat up a heavy wad of spit and blood, his temple now bleeding quite profusely down the side of his head and across his cheek. “W-what are you going to do? K-Ki-KILL US!? You’ll destroy the council! T-The Union! Y-y-you’ll destroy EVERYTHING!” Magnus shook his head lightly, slipping the revolver back into the holster along his thigh. “Destroy the council? No… No, dear Petrus.” Magnus approached the man, then placed a hand on the side of his head before grabbing a hefty wad of the man’s receding hairline and yanked his head back to look him straight in the eye, which brought a whimper from the whining councilman. “No, no, no, the council won’t be destroyed… More… Under new management.” Magnus stepped back from the man, leaving him there before him on his knees. A wry grin spread across his lips as his arms crossed across his chest. The councilmen looked around to their captors, then back to Magnus, each of them with their eyes wide. “MAGN-!” A series of gunshots echoed through the council chamber as an era had ended within the Union. And now, a new era begins. 11. Union of Mann National Activity: Every broadcast station across the Union had shone bright with the headlines. “Antebellum Corporation CEO and Union Council Member, Magnus Conditor, presumed dead in catastrophic shuttle accident” The nation was overtaken with grief, whether it was for the loss of several thousand souls on board or the passing of the man who had risen the Union from the ashes of Terra and now to the stars. Billions of lives saved off the actions of one man who had decided to act rather than to sit around and wait for the opinions of congressmen or council members. A man who had found himself on the mentality of the betterment of the human race after nearly mass extinction on their homeworld. Countless ceremonies were held across the capital world, and more through the several colonized sectors of the Union as word of Magnus’ passing had spread through nearly every media outlet within the Union. Days of mourning passed with little work to be done within the public sectors of the Union. Not a soul dared to believe what had happened, though it had. Magnus Conditor, the founder of both Antebellum Corp. and The Union of Mann, was dead. Magnus had insisted to his long-time friend Sophos to come along on his trip to the outer sectors of the Union, a betterment to both of their reputations in places other than the capital of the Union. Though strangely enough, his friend had declined, something Magnus had found was almost common now for his friend to not leave the capital, let alone the city of Vilgius for extended periods of time. Though this was for another reason entirely. Magnus was soon to be informed of why. He arrived at Vilgius Starport early in the morning, though did not depart until long after the sun had peaked high above in the sky near noon. The shuttle which had already flown several dozen flights within the Primus sector was to be the medium of transportation for the councilman, though it was also to be the last voyage for the vessel. As the clock struck noon local time for Vilgius, the engines of the shuttle screeched to life. And Magnus drifted off to cryogenic unconsciousness. It wasn’t mid-flight when disaster struck, but rather early on in the voyage. A large majority of the engine section of the vessel was lost as it broke the atmosphere above Vilgius and began to spew flames from the rear of the vessel. A failsafe that put the ship under an emergency lockdown sounded and the cryo-pods snapped open, ripping Magnus from his cryosleep and pulled him back into reality. He couldn’t find his bearings for a time, though the stream of bodies rushing down the hall towards the evacuation chambers pulled him back to focus on what he had to do. He knew something was wrong, and he knew he had to flee. His body flung itself into one of the single-occupant escape pods, one of several hundred on the vessel with him knowing little of what was occurring around him. Magnus peered out the lone window on the front of the pod, only for his vision to be blinded by a series of fireballs which faded to darkness. Magnus awoke not within his pod, though rather in a blank reality. One of blinding white lights and utmost silence. Not a single sound emitted from around him, nor did any image of a living being. Then darkness. His vision returned, and once again was nothing but a pure white curtain over his eyes, shining brightly against his retina as he attempted to gather his bearings. Though there was nothing to gather, nor anything to understand. His vision was slowly replaced with images of his past; the opening of his first office within Athens, meeting Sophos, the launch of the first Union colony ship to the stars, and then darkness again. His body tensed as he awoke. Not in a mirage of images or blinding lights, but rather in a quaint and confined room. He laid in a bed, dressed with white sheets and a lone table at his bedside. On it was a single button, though he had no urge to press it. His eyes were drawn to the blank metallic grey door directly across the room from him. He eyed it curiously for any markings or something to find out where he was. His answer soon came as the door slid open from the side, and Sophos stepped in. “Soph-” His voice cracked as he attempted to speak. Something he had unknowingly not done for several years. Sophos approached him, his mustache much longer than last remembered by Magnus, though still twirled up into his cheekbones. “Speak not my friend. You have been gone for some time, but all is well… I assure you.” Magnus looked down towards his hands, noting the deep and jagged lines that were across them that he didn’t remember being there before. It wasn’t until he attempted to sit up did he feel the strain on his body that time had taken. He looked down to himself and pulled away the neck of his shirt, now only seeing the heavy scarring across the entire frontal section of his body, none of them freshly healed. Despite his injuries, his mind was only on one thing. “I… Back to Vilgius… The Council. My work. They need it.” Sophos approached the man, then sat at the edge of his bed distant away from Magnus. He looked to him, then shook his head. “Who do you think did this?” Population: Primus Sector - 5,241,720,093 Researched Technologies: Tech Level 1 - Basic Industry Tech Level 2 - Civilian Infrastructure Army Strength: N/A Navy Strength: Exploration Ships - 4x Inventa Class Exploration Craft Resources: Currency (C) - 50,000 Income 50,000 Used 500 Stored Labor (L) - 17 Max 0 Used 17 Vacant Materials (M) - 2 Income 0 Used 3 Stored Alloys (A) - 0 Income 0 Used 0 Stored Supplies (S) - 2 Income 0 Used 20 Stored Research (R) - 10 Income 10 Used 0 Stored Troops (T) - 7 Max 0 Used 7 Vacant Spending Activity (50,000 C, 0 M, 10 RP): Civilian (2 M) - More industry for the masses! 15. Union of Mann National Activity: The elevator rocked with the sudden stoppage of it’s cables above the compartment as both Magnus and Sophos arrived in one of the lowest levels of the Spire. “Showtime.” Muttered Magnus to Sophos. The two looked towards one another before stifling a laugh between them. Sophos extended his hand towards the man that was adorned in his usual burgundy suit, which Magnus quickly returned with a firm grasp around Sophos’ hand. “Don’t cause a stir. Hm?” Sophos mused with an almost forced grin spreading across his wrinkled lips. Magnus couldn’t hold in his amusement at that as he chuckled. Typical Sophos, riding the wire on whatever situation arose before him or his allies. Magnus extended his off hand and placed it onto Sophos’ close shoulder. “Wars have been started for less, my friend. I’ll see you on the other side.” The two shook one another's hand for a second time and in turn the door opened between the two of them which Sophos exited into the upper observation deck above the council chambers. As the doors closed once again, Magnus was alone. Truly alone. The hellfire which laid upon the other side of the doors before him was expected to be unmatched in comparison to the bombs which dropped upon their precious Sol nearly a century ago. KECHUNG-HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN The elevator once more came to life as Magnus felt his weight shift upwards in his gut. Whether it was from the anxiety or the elevators movement was unknown to him. All he knew was that the elevators cabin felt as if it was becoming hotter sheerly from the heat from the flames outside. He reached within his jacket and withdrew a metallic flask that glinted against the lights of the elevator. At least his alcohol helped stump out the flames some. For a time, at least. Magnus strode into the chambers as he stuffed the flask back into the pocket of his jacket with a sense of haste about him. The moment he laid eyes upon the man already standing before him, his rival, Alexander Pierce, he raised his hand and pointed towards him. “You. Let me tell you one thing about politics, you snail-eyed FU-” Population: Primus Sector - 5,050,000,000 Researched Technologies: Tech Level 1 - Civilian Infrastructure Basic Industry Tech Level 2 - Civilian Infrastructure (13/50) Army Strength: N/A Navy Strength: N/A Resources: Currency (C) - 19,500 Income 0 Used 40,000 Stored Labor (L) - 7 Max 7 Used 0 Vacant Materials (M) - 16 Income 16 Used 0 Stored Alloys (A) - 0 Income 0 Used 0 Stored Supplies (S) - 2 Income 0 Used 10 Stored Research (R) - 9 Income 9 Used 0 Stored Troops (T) - 7 Max 0 Used 7 Vacant Spending Activity (16 M, 4 RP): Civilian (16 M) - More colony ships? 16. Union of Mann National Activity: It was nothing short of a massacre of human life that had never been seen before. Civil wars, World Wars, and System Wars had been waged, and yet none came to hold a candle to the waste of life that had occurred upon their homeworld. Billions dead in a mere 42 minutes from the actions of a single man. None would dare to take the blame of destroying what was once their planet. Their rock. Their home. Though, when the bombs fell silent, one arose to the call. As politicians muddled amongst one another in negotiations to what was soon to become the Sol Federation, it only took a single man to guide forth a new age to the stars in search of a new home. Magnus Conditor, a Greek businessman, had brought it upon himself to steer humanity back onto its tracks to the destiny which was promised. Millions flocked to him as his industry grew further to rebuild their home, and more once his shuttles reached orbit to connect Sol to its colonies. It was only a mere ten years until the Antebellum Corporation was founded, named in remembrance of their home, and had brought humanity once again to the stars. A ship of sheer colossal size was constructed and then launched, carrying within what was to be the pinnacle of humanity’s greatest strength. Life. It was a treacherous task of all those on board to embark upon such a long journey utilizing fusion drives. And yet they persevered, bringing humanity to the furthest its ever been from Sol in what was called the Primus Sector. A chance for a new beginning, far from the bonds of corruption and unease with a mere single governing body over a nation of billions. Its foundations were constructed by none other Magnus Conditor, who took a seat as one of seven within a council, obviously as the council’s mediator and unofficial leader. The interests of the now named Union of Mann, and his company, Antebellum Corp., never once crossed paths whilst within the chambers overlooking the capital. A man of absolute integrity, unrelenting duty, and unmarked honesty. All of the traits one would come to seek in a man. The traits of a leader. “I would think you should start to lay back on the drinking, Magnus? It is only two o'clock... Also, the progressions begin in less than fifteen minutes. I’d prefer for you to be at least presentable to the council.” An audible scoff is heard before being silenced once again by the familiar sound of a steady chug from a bottle. Then, the all too regular relieved sigh that soon follows. The dull ‘clank’ of the base of a bottle against a glass countertop pings throughout the balconies reach around the base of The Spire. Magnus Conditor seemed to recline further into his chair as the man spoke as if his actions were to speak words louder than what he was to say. “I plan to live life with my cup half full at least into my eighties. Plus, I’m just in my prime! If the drinks stop, I stop. And I think you know what happens when I stop...” The man with Magnus let out a single chuckle, a grin lasting across his wrinkled expression. Although the formal garb of an all-white drab and what seemed to be a robe-bound outfit brought a professional look to the man, his twisted mustache that extended past the corners of his lips and upwards to his high cheekbones brought a subtle joyous look to his complexion. The man took a few steps towards his colleague and offered him a hand that had been bound in tight white wrappings. “You realize - It will kill you eventually. Even if it’s however many more years you decide to keep your seat before the sheer workload snaps your spine. You make up nearly a quarter of our productivity whilst in the chambers, and that excludes your civil work with the people.” “The deeds of men in our positions shouldn’t be quantified, nor singled out from one another. My duty is all that I do. And as do you, Sophos. A remarkable job you are doing at trying to keep up, might I add.” Magnus reached upwards, grasping onto the hand of the man before pulling himself upright and out from the cushioning of the chair. He looked outwards to the city’s skyline below them as his hands moved to either side of his hips. He then inhaled, raising his chest before slowly letting out a prolonged breath with a blooming curl upon his lips - a look of satisfaction. He turned about where he stood, moving to take a burgundy shaded, black-trimmed jacket from the back of the chair he had been reclining upon. Each arm slipped into its sleeve effortlessly before Magnus fastened one of the two buttons on the front of the jacket, its sides and back fitting well and trimmed to the man’s physique. “Whilst I do appreciate the compliment, it does seem to raise the attention of some of the other ministers. They see your drive as a… seed for other desires to bloom from. One may even say they have begun to trust you less due to it.” Magnus furrowed his brows,, then turned back towards Sophos with a look of confusion about his expression. It faded into a train of thought, then once more to Magnus’ usual assured expression. He began to walk along the balcony with Sophos, moving his right arm to wrap around the older, though shorter, man’s shoulder with an affectionate pat following afterward on the outside of his upper arm. “Allow them their thoughts, old friend. It is merely their pride speaking before their wits. Though, perhaps they’re just taking some influence from my rules.” The two exchange a look with one another, to which Sophos furrows his brows in confusion. “Don’t trust a man wearing a better suit than your own.” He adds whilst brushing his off hand down the front of his suit to uncrease the jacket. The two share a laugh with one another as they enter into The Spire’s main hall’s and ascend to the council chambers once again to do their duty.
