  12. This lore has been denied. Spell offers an avenue of practical metagaming, Siliti is under different circumstances- given the significant degree of availability between both Siliti and Voidal Magic, it is likely a poor idea while we use the Siliti change as a (still unused) test-run of the mechanic.

  16. Guide Submissions This thread covers Guide Submissions, only applicable to lore which requires a guide (Feats, Further Alchemy, CAs, and Magics) Guides Please read Explanation: Guides for the most comprehensive information. In short, guides are a vital addition to more complex lorepieces (listed above) that aide in both player and Story Team understanding of a piece. While a lorepiece may seem clear to you on release, and the idea of clarifying seems preposterous, once the lore is beyond your own hands it's impossible to tell where it goes and even more difficult to interpret when it's not so commonly spread or easily understood. Below is just a general, suggested and unrequired, format for Guides which themselves are required. This is just a format to give you a good idea of what needs to be placed in your guide to best be considered for a full acceptance on your lorepiece. Format This formatting is meant to be used for guides post-pending changes for complex lorepieces. Thread Title The thread title should be: [Guide] - [Name of Lore]. For example, Guide - Kani Original Lore Link Include a link to the pending or accepted lorepiece. Physical and Mental Changes & Examples Write in both physical and mental changes that can occur within your lore, if applicable. Give examples of how this could manifest in accordance to your lore, and ways characters can roleplay it in an interesting manner. In the case of CAs, this is the most heavy section often since it may transform how a character looks an acts. Be thorough and give examples. Emote Examples, Ritual Examples, Casting Examples Give examples of what spellcasting may look like. Give the basic, most default, ways of casting your abilities or spells and what their effects may look like successfully and unsuccessfully. Include how one could telegraph their spell and show it in action, and how they can make it interesting and flavorful in their own ways. Be sure to include emote examples for every spell and ritual, even if left at Freeform with emotes, to be certain that there is a default that Story and Players can view and understand how they work and should look. Item Examples, Build Examples In a lore with special builds or items, please include both creation emotes for these things (where applicable), and examples of what both these builds and items would look like in pictures. In both cases, be certain to include what is important/needed for these things and how you should get them signed, or sign them yourself. These serve as the basic, minimum-effort description of what these items and builds look like so players get a good idea of what they look like, and how they can expand upon them thematically and flavorfully where possible. Tier Progression Summary Be sure to post the tier progression and the scale at which it works, the time it takes, the spells you learn, and so on clearly, and describe where applicable how your character either with their magic, physically, or mentally may change at this time and how to represent that. Repeat (OPTIONAL) Repeat sections as necessary in an ordered fashion. Citation Spoiler You should have a spoiler at the bottom that includes links to any lore pieces that you referenced or based your lore submission off of.
  17. Alchemy Submissions Alchemy Submissions are lore pieces that introduce a new alchemical item or potion to the server. Alchemical Creations When making an alchemical creation such as a potion, item, consumable, or anything between please consider a few things. Consider most importantly, it's theme and place on the server. Often, many submissions in the past have introduced five or six potions or items which, while following a theme, aren't really used or provide anything interesting other than powerful or versatile effects which give them strength. Consider too the limitations of alchemy, and the niche that your creation has. Avoid performing actions/abilities that other potions already accomplish, even if slightly different. Avoid performing actions/abilities performed by magic unless they make sense in the way they are performed, and are different enough from that magical ability to be considered thematic and not copying. Please consider looking at the following pieces. Alchemy Feat Lore Alchemy I - Signs & Symbols Alchemy II - Processes and Reagents Alchemy III - Core Potions Format This format is meant to be used for Alchemy Submissions. Thread Title The thread title should be [Alchemy] - [Name]. For example, Alchemy - Cockatrice's Breath, or Lector Alchemy (In the case of alchemical packs, which again are discouraged, feel free to have a group name for all creations). Potion Information Follow this potion format. Name (Common/Rare | Tier Required) Please make sure to include if your alchemy is common (anyone may craft it) or rare (only those with the taught recipe), and what tier is required to craft. Background/Description Describe how your potion/craft was discovered and what purpose it serves. Add some theme and flavor to your lore. Recipe Base: Water, Aqua Vitae, or any other liquid or alchemical reagent which forms the basis of your craft. Sign | Symbol xAMOUNT (E.x. Earth | Slowness x3) Consider what signs, symbols, and base make sense for your recipe. As well, make it cost appropriately, and be certain you are using sign-symbol combinations that exist and are available through ST-Signed herbs from the herb plugin. Creation Describe in a list format a step-by-step process of how you create this potion, and any effects or abnormal cautions one should be aware of in potioncraft. Please include identification, extraction, mixing, and any additional steps to take into your recipe creation. Be sure this is easily understood so that when emoted in game, others understand what is going on. Effects Describe the effects of your alchemical craft. This can be like an Acuity Potion, which heightens ones senses, or Smelling Salts which help wake up a user. Maybe this craft is akin to warforging and gives special aesthetic effects to what it is applied to, or like alteration alchemy where one can use it to change their appearance. Remember to no matter what, please be specific and detail all information without vagueness of your potion information. Redlines Describe the limitations and limits of your craft, and what is allowed/disallowed. Include if this is signed by ST or if anyone may player-sign their item. Repeat (OPTIONAL) Repeat the above section if you have more crafts to place within your lore. Remember the caution of the issue packs cause for lore-bloat and underuse. Skip this if you have no repeat crafts. Further Alchemy (Optional, Variant) Further Alchemy is defined as an alchemy lorepiece which does not fit the traditional format of simple crafts. Instead, this may create things like Automatons in Animii or the body-redefining mutations of Tawkin. Given the sheer creativity and variety of this lore format, please follow whatever other submission type is closest to what you are trying to write/achieve, and use hybrid formatting where necessary (E.x. parts of both Alchemy format and CA-Race Format.). Citation Spoiler You should have a spoiler at the bottom that includes links to any lore pieces that you referenced or based your lore submission off of.
  18. Herb/Flora Submissions Historical Submissions are lore pieces that cover something that occurred in LotC’s history. Plants Plants added to the index are plants that can be found in-game, dependent on their rarity. These plants should exist for some reason, whether it be to add a new alchemy reagent or to add to the worldbuilding as an interesting and fun addition to the universe. This does not need to be in such an impactful way as a magic or creature may be. For example, a plant that grows from the corpses of animals or a plant that is just a food source for an animal is a fine addition to lore. Another thing to keep in mind is that a plant that acts as a deadly poison and instantly kills someone or a plant that can turn into a salve that instantly heals people are not the types of plants we are looking for. Aim for more mild effects and add some variety to the plant if you’re making something bigger like a tree. For example, a special tree could have wood that acts a special way, along with the bark and leaves each having unique traits. This allows for the plant to be used in multiple ways and open up multiple routes of RP. Format This format is meant to be used for Flora/Herb submissions. Be sure to include pictures and reference art if you can, since they help greatly with immersion and reading!! Thread Title The thread title should be [Flora Lore] or [Herb Lore] - [Name]. For example, Herb Lore - Nightglow, or Herb Lore - The Hedgewitch's Healkit (for multiple submissions, feel free to add a compendium-type name to the title.) Summary/Information Describe here the characteristics of your herb or lofra, in all aspects. What does your plant look like? Where can it be found or located? Does it have any raw effects? How do you harvest it? Does it have any special effect or action it does? Is there a special blooming/useage it may have? Does it have a special effect on players, creatures, magics, or so on? How does it react to those things? How do these plants act before or after being picked? Do they exhibit any abnormal behaviors or effects around them? Do they have any special interactions with the time of day or year? Feel free to write at your hearts content. Please look at Explanation: Healing for healing information/thoughts, and General Criteria: Ability Types for more information on poisons/disease. Signs/Symbols Please include, if present, what signs/symbols your plant has which can be used for alchemy. If your herb is player-signed (free use/availability), feel free to skip this. Here is the alchemy lore on signs & symbols for reference. Redlines This is where you list general red lines of the herb/flora, such as ways they can/cannot be used. Please consider writing in redlines regarding what could be abused about this plant, such as raw-effect abuse, spam harvesting, and so on. Clarify too if your plant is open to player-signature and roleplay gathering, or if it is to be included in the botany plugin. Citation Spoiler You should have a spoiler at the bottom that includes links to any lore pieces that you referenced or based your lore submission off of.
  19. CA Race Submissions This thread covers CA Race submissions, which are playable creatures that utilize the creature application approval process. Creature Application Races These creatures are generally more powerful and/or often harder to play or have more potential issues of powergaming than an Open Race. The players that successfully apply to play these creatures are trusted with advanced abilities and strengths compared to the Open Races. These creatures may have abilities comparable to some magics (for example, liches were capable of utilizing necromancy’s drain ability). These powers may be tiered as magic if the creatures become more powerful with time or specific efforts. Bear in mind, magic slots also apply to creatures. If the creature is crammed full of abilities, it will likely require multiple slots used. They should also have weaknesses to help balance the creature in roleplay, especially in combat. The balancing should be such that they should at least be at a disadvantage should they be outnumbered by average descendants. These races also are monitored for activity. Should you plan on submitting a CA race, you should bear in mind that there is a possibility of shelving if any warnings about inactivity are ignored. Submission Guidelines This subsection is going to go over the rules that CA Race submissions need to follow. Some of these have explanation threads that explain our stance on the guideline, they are not required reading, but might help shed some light on the situation. Please check out Explanation: CA Race Groupings too for more information on CAs. Format This formatting is meant to be used for proposed CA Creature lore pieces. Thread Title The thread title should be: [CA Race Lore] - [Name of Race]. For example, CA Race Lore – Kha'rajyr. Origin/Background/Culture Lore written here should not directly conflict with existing lore and should not be written in such a way it can void existing rp of playerbases if it can be avoided. Physical Description Physical descriptions should be clear and can include pictures. Traits, such as anatomy or changed body parts (e.g. scales instead of skin) should be talked about thoroughly and not left vague. Height and weight should be established, with a cap on the maximum/minimum. Strengths and weaknesses of the creature should be elaborated on. This should be used to explain the pros that the creature has (e.g. increased strength) and weaknesses (e.g. fire). As well listing what magics/mundane things are effective/non-effective against it. Include as well how some magics feel/react to in regards to said creature.(Example: A creature that is a spirit of sorts. How does a shaman or a mystic feel/able to react when encountering said creature?). Make sure to be descriptive if it isn’t elaborated on in a later section (e.g. increased strength should be described in detail on how strong the person is and their limitations). Mental Description The mindset and mental aspects of your creature should be laid out here. Mindset: This part should be used to describe how your creature thinks and any changes you might see between this creature vs a descendant. Does your creature have an innate way of thinking (e.g. x creature is always cautious, regardless of the situation)? Does it vary from person to person? Or is it the same as a descendant’s? Stuff like that. Mental State: You should use this section to describe if your creature suffers from any mental instability or other abnormalities that a player should be aware of when RP’ing. Does your creature suffer from any specific mental illness? Do things trigger them? For example, your creature could be designed to suffer from PTSD due to the changing method, where certain things such as loud noises trigger the PTSD and make them have flashbacks to when they were changed. Abilities Any kind of unique abilities, such as a magic or special body functions (e.g. forming acid and spitting it out), should be covered here. Name of the ability. Description of the ability. This is the RP description of the ability and its capabilities. Mechanics of the ability. This is the OOC description of the spell that covers things like emote count requirement and other specifications that you need to be aware of. Specific Red Lines. This section is put under each ability and covers any restrictions that the ability may have. General Red lines/Restrictions This is where you list general red lines of the creature, such as ways their special traits should not be used. If your creature is restricted from learning magic or has restrictions of a similar nature, be sure to include that here. Repeat (OPTIONAL) background through Red Lines/Restrictions. ONLY IF YOU ARE MAKING MULTIPLE CREATURE TYPES or the abilities are in subtypes, ignore if your creature is just a single slot/single creature. Purpose (OOC) This section is where you describe what purpose your lore is serving, what it is bringing to the table that other lore pieces aren’t, and why it fits into LotC’s canon. Citation Spoiler You should have a spoiler at the bottom that includes links to any lore pieces that you referenced or based your lore submission off of.
  20. Creature Submissions This thread covers both normal and event-only Creatures and the formatting required for them. What Is It? A Creature is a submission that is reserved for both player and story events alongside day to day roleplay. These creatures can range from simple critters that fill out the world and ecosystem, even providing minor flavor roleplay, to full-scale beasts reserved for event-only useage. This sort of submission can have high levels of power or abilities as they are meant to be event only, or even be harmless and just fun worldbuilding. Bear in mind that if your creature/race is considered rather powerful, it will likely be locked to ST only (if not intended as so) to prevent it from being abused as other creatures have been in the past. It’s advised, if making an ST-only creature, to make ones geared towards event-play as a result. There’s a difference between prolonged, daily roleplay and events catered by the ST, even with heavy roleplay or non-combat events. Weaknesses are also advised, especially for monsters or entities meant for combat roleplay, so that an exploitable quality of them can be used by the players interacting with them in the event to defeat them. They generally should be defeatable by a group at least. Consider when creating creatures that do not require ST, that they should not be tameable or useable in combat unless following the General Criteria on Pets & Summons. Consider how much roleplay your creature is adding to the server too- in almost every circumstance, "clan specific animals" such as the Lur Wolf or Ker Wolf (lots of wolves, really) just provided super-majestic super-perfect flawless combat beasts which made most combat roleplay just 2v1's against a hyper-intelligent direwolf and the person fighting alongside them. Please be tasteful, and please consider how much a pet may actually add to the server, and how much fairness it adds in all facets of roleplay. Creatures can be considered event-only races of people (Ironborn, Ratiki, Mori-Quessir) to creatures like Karins, Bokolos, Ratiki, or Screowls. Formatting There are no special formats specifically for this, but we ask you use the following as references when writing your race/creature. Event actors do not need to conform to the normal lore standards, but it is still helpful to flesh out your piece and give the actors an idea of what they are utilizing. Things such as culture and how the creature/race act are things that an actor would need to be aware of, but when it comes to things such as abilities it can have more leeway. If your piece is for an event race, this here is a good reference. If your piece is for an event creature, this here is a good reference. Use [Event Race] or [Event Creature] in your forum thread title to distinguish what it is. Format This formatting is meant to be used for proposed Creature lore pieces. Be sure to include pictures and reference art if you can, since they help greatly with immersion and reading!! Thread Title The thread title should be: [Creature Lore] - [Name of Creature]. For example, Creature Lore – Bokolos Origin/Background/Culture Lore written here should be focusing on the background of the creature and their place within the world, and how it came to be. Creature Summary Describe here the characteristics of the creature, in all aspects. Physical capability, mental capability, what they do in an ecosystem, do they have any quirks on nesting, or activity, or even simple biological anomalies? Do they interact with other lore in some manner, or do they play a role in something greater from another lorepiece? What environment are they from, what purpose do they serve there? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Lay out all the interesting and uninteresting facts and information about your creature so they could be comprehensively understood. Taming Reserved for either Non-Combat or Creatures following General Criteria: Creatures and Summons, this section covers an explanation on how you tame and upkeep these creatures, and how they may change becoming tame or domesticated. ST Notes/Abilities For creatures with Story Team use in mind, write here abnormal abilities this creature might have that are for story team useage in events. Avoid "Swipe" or "Bash" like abilities, and more toward their abnormal characteristics. Do they have an acidic breath, or can they magic of some kind? Do they regenerate damage well, or do they inject venom when they bite? General Red lines/Restrictions This is where you list general red lines of the creature, such as ways they can/cannot be used. Please consider writing in redlines regarding what could be abused about this creature, such as venom harvesting, weaponizing certain body parts, and so on. In general, stick to at best, "Iron-Strength" bodyparts for most creatures and that you cannot collect venom or poison. Consder as well taming and combat redlines, such as if your creature flees or is only functional as a mount in combat. Repeat (OPTIONAL) Add here if you are making different creature types that should be noted, or subtypes/evolutions that should be noted.
  21. Historical/Legend Submissions Historical Submissions are lore pieces that cover something that occurred in LotC’s history. Historical Historical lore can be written for a few things. Firstly, it is written for time periods that players were not around for OR for time periods for areas that the players did not have access to. What your piece should do is provide depth/worldbuilding to an aspect of the server. It should not exist just to exist or to try and validate an RP belief. Legends Historical pieces also do not need to be entirely factual. You are capable of submitting a “Legends” variety which provides a looser interpretation of events and is meant to be an RP friendly tale that people can know on the server. This is essentially submitting an RP Tale that people can know on the server/claim they found in a book if need be. It can not be about any current characters or be used to try and promote a fake narrative that boosts current RP. Format This format is meant to be used for Historical/Legend Submissions. Thread Title The thread title should be [Historical Lore] or [Legend Lore] - [Name]. For example, Historical Lore – The Inferi Crisis – The End of New Beginnings. History/Legend This part is where you put in the historical information or your RP Legend. There isn’t a set method for this, so you can style it as if it was someone’s journal, two people talking in a pub, et cetera. OOC Explanation This is where you cover the historical text from an OOC standpoint, explaining it to the members of Story. This does not need to be particularly long, so long as you get to the point about what it is about & if it establishes anything important that might alter history or sets a precedent. If you are aiming to have this be a Legends piece, talk to us OOCly about the Legend and inform us how you wish for this to spread. Citation Spoiler You should have a spoiler at the bottom that includes links to any lore pieces that you referenced or based your lore submission off of.
  22. Location Submissions Location lore is lore written for locations in LotC’s world. This can either be on the current map or places outside of the current map. Locations A location receiving lore for it should serve some kind of purpose that adds to LotC in some fashion. There is no point writing in-depth lore for a place we are never going to utilize. This does not mean that we need to actually be able to visit the location in-game, but it should still be able to have some kind of impact on us. For example, the starter areas are a group of continents that exist around LotC that we will likely never visit in-game. Their purpose is to act as a place where characters can claim they are from or a place where characters can claim they were vacationing at when shelved. This is made possible through the Wayfinding portals, described below. If you are writing for a non-mortal realm area, such as an immortal realm, please check in with ST management to ensure that what you’re writing for is necessary. For example, attempting to give Wayfinding Portals The Wayfinding Portals is an addition that allows for us to have a valid reason for being able to travel back to various locations. Currently these do not link back to past maps, but they do link to places such as Aeldin and the other starter locations. You can read here for more information: Wayfinding. This allows for a place to have access to the current map. Please note that this isn’t a method for people to gain items or things of that nature. You can not design a place and have your character go and visit it to retrieve rare goods that were written into the piece. If you are writing for a place located within the immortal realm, do not include Wayfinding portals. Format This format is meant to be used for Location Submissions. Thread Title The thread title should be “[World Lore] - [Name of Location]”. For example: World Lore – The Avark Archipelego. Name and Location Tell us what the name of the area is and describe where this is located. You should include if this is an area that can be accessed by people or not. Geography Cover the layout of the land, what creatures/plantlife is there, and if any civilizations are based in the land. Civilization (Optional) Cover the culture and other traits that the civilization has if there is one. If this is for a starting area or other area people will be able to have characters from, they are going to need a reference for how they were raised up. History (Optional) Cover the history of the land. If any civilizations exist, go into detail about their events as well.
  23. Invention Submissions Inventions that are complex and/or push the boundaries of the tech lock belong here. Same thing with new siege weapons. These can be magical in nature and are not restricted to just mundane technology. Give this a read to learn more about the current stance on technology: Techlock/Magi-Tech. Check too the Techlock Hub-Page. Inventions This submission type is left vague as it is a broad category. Please try and come up with creative ideas rather than just trying to mimic modern or semi-modern tech. Things that are ripped modern times, such as a car, will not be accepted as it goes against the techlock. Things that push the techlock will be reviewed by the administration after the ST have voted on it. Format This formatting is meant to be used for proposed Invention Submissions. Title The title should go like: “[Invention Lore] – [Name]”. For example: Invention Lore – Halfling Explosives Origin/Backstory (Optional) This section is devoted to how the invention was discovered and who discovered it. This is optional and should be used if it is not an invention of your creation, but one that is discovered. Such as discovering ancient tech in ruins. Description This is the place where you’re supposed to describe the invention in detail. What it is made of, how it functions, et cetera. Capabilities This ties in with the above section and you are meant to cover what the invention is capable of doing. Red Lines/Restrictions The limitations of the invention should be listed here. It should be noted if this is an invention that needs regulation via apps or if this is an invention anyone can pick up.
