  1. The people who gave me feedback didn’t think Adunians had their own language, nor did I find such. I thought it was the same as Waldenian, but I read it being described as its own thing in a few places so I put it in for good measure. So ‘Elvish’ would just be the standard Elven that is spoken today, while ‘Ancient Elven’ would be the same language 10 years ago or whatever. I know Ancient Elven has had various additions to the vocabulary as well as maybe some grammatical changes though of that I’m not so sure. So yeah, not wholly separate languages, moreso change over time and a change in how people name it (I’ve heard Elvish being used the past year or two, I think Ancient Elven has kinda fallen out of use.) Again though, not a perfect chart, feel free to disagree.
  2. While making this I received some feedback on how the “norlandic languages” relate to one another, and apparently its a bit controversial as to whats what. Part of the problem is indeed the matter of do you link them based on backstory or similarity? I don’t think I am well-versed enough in Norland’s lore to properly sort it out, but if you think you can, I welcome you to make your own visualization of how all those languages are related.
  3. Afaik there have been a lot of small changes to the Elven language over the years, so the Elvish thats in use by some now is a bit different from the original. As for the connection with Blah, I was not aware of that, but if its not derived from it or decently influenced, then yeah its probably nit-picking.

  5. Hello everyone! Very simple 'guide' here; LOTC has a lot of roleplay languages - be they custom languages or roleplay-friendly equivalents of real life languages. With all these languages though, it can be hard to get a sense of what's what and how they're all related. For that reason I've made a 'language tree' that shows how various languages are related or derived from one another. While making this I've had countless people giving feedback about languages that were still missing or that should be moved to different spots, so by no means is this a definitive or perfect representation. Still, I think it can be helpful for a lot of people and it visualizes the rich variety of languages we have on LOTC! A few general points of elaboration about the tree: The colours generally represent language families like how you would have 'Slavic' and 'Germanic' language families in real life. These can sometimes come together as joint influences on a language, creating a mixed color. The tree is made from a Canonist point of view because it offers the most complete and coherent tree, that's the reason most languages trace back to Flexio. Depending on your character's interpretation of religion, the creation of the world etc. this might alter, but this is probably the most widely accepted view of things, even if it means Elven and Dwed stem from what's essentially Latin. There's a lot of languages on this tree, many of which are small or have fallen out of use. To list what each of them are would be a bit cumbersome, but I do believe all of these can either be found on the forum or wiki, so you can look up any you do not know! The 'languages' Harrenic, Jorenic, Ancient Southeron, Ancient Farfolk and Ancient Easterling are not literal languages, but moreso represent a step in the language evolution process that's muddled, consists of a plethora of minor theoretical languages, or represent a missing link. Ghanya doesn't look like Flexio, but to my knowledge there's no information on what languages link them. We know they must be linked though because the Southeron descend from Harren, hence the labels to represent these missing links If you have any questions, feel free to ask; I might answer them! (Also u better gimme +1, this was a hassle, I swear there's way too many unused languages that were made up at some point as part of lore that barely got used.....)
  6. Saulite Infiltration A letter by a worried Clergyman To the Church of the Canon in general and her Inquisition specifically, It has come to my attention that for years now, decades, perhaps nigh on a century, there has been a vile heresy subtly infiltrating the mainstream of the Canonist church. Hidden in plain sight, this festering must have survived generations of clergymen who perhaps never noticed, didn’t know any better or, God forbid, didn’t care. I am talking about works by the Saulites. For those who are unaware or perhaps reading this as laymen, let me outline in a few brief sentences who the Saulites are. The Saulites are a heretical sect, a cult if you will, of Canonism. Their namesake is a man called Saul, described in the Scroll of Gospel to be of Horen’s tribe. In the gospel, Saul ignores the warnings of Julia and Horen about Iblees, going to speak with the latter. He gets tempted by Iblees and makes a deal, being given the appearance of Horen after which he sets about spreading sin among mankind, corrupting many. The Saulites are an evil sect, known for preaching false teachings, a lack of morality and a twisted sense of worshiping Evil. With that out of the way, how have these Saulites been infiltrating Canonism? Books. While spending time in several libraries, a particular title caught my eye; “Saulite Hymn”. When I first read that, I didn’t know who the Saulites were yet, but I recognized the name Saul from the Gospel and started my research. This hymn preaches a twisted mockery of the good Faith and I do not recommend anyone read its perversions. How these books came to be part of any canonist library’s collection is beyond me, but I assume there must have been a Saulite in the past who donated these books to a variety of libraries. The librarians didn’t know who the Saulites were but saw that this was a religious book, and thus put it among the other Canonist literature. Now the real question here is; how widespread is this infiltration? Sadly, I can only give a partial answer to this. The aforementioned book, Saulite Hymn, is worryingly found in various libraries across Almaris. This, shockingly, includes the Library of the Holy See itself of all places. Thus, this specific book is quite widespread but if it is the only book, it is not a major issue one might say; simply get rid of this title. The issue is however: I fear we cannot be sure this is the only heretical book that sits in Canonist libraries. I traced the Saulite Hymn back to library records from at least 80 years ago, they might have been there sooner, and all this time they went unnoticed so who is to say that there aren’t more heretical books like this one: hiding in plain sight? This brings us to the purpose of my letter. I wish to ask the Church and the Inquisition to take action on this matter. Of the Church I ask that this book, the Saulite Hymn, be removed from all Canonist libraries across the continent on the sinful charges of Peccat contra Fidem: Blasphemy, Heresy, Sacrilege, Incredulity and Peccat contra Mores: Saulicy. Of the Inquisition I would like to ask that they start an investigation into the literature that makes up the Religion sections of said libraries in an attempt to root out any other books that are based on Saulite or other heresies. These books have been read by laymen and clergymen alike, possibly even Acolytes studying to become Priests. They shape Canonists’ views of the Faith. We cannot have heretical books infiltrate Canonist libraries, for such means they infiltrate the Canonist minds and ultimately the Canonist Faith itself. Signed, Arnaud de Novellen

  11. Acolyte Arnaud sighed deeply as he came up to the second floor of the clinic again the day after the incident. He’d eye the unconscious Ludrik with a mix of emotions; the man had attacked him, but he’d heard some stories about what had happened to the Katzak and he’d met him in church as a decent man. In the end, the acolyte did what he came in to do before leaving; he’d light some incense beside the bed and say a few prayers for the injured Ludrik.
  12. Arnaud de Novellen's jaw dropped as he read the news, dumbfounded at the High Pontiff's passing "He.. He seemed alright last Saint's day... How..." He sighed "There goes a good man and a good servant of the Lord... May he find rest in the Seven Skies."
  13. Arnaud de Novellen smiled, signing a Lorraine cross as the Duke of Adria did what he had hoped and pledged to work together with the Church against the unholy "I have high hopes for the young Duke."
  14. Arnaud de Novellen shook his head as he read the missive inside a church "I think we ought to give the Adrians the benefit of the doubt, for while they are warmongers, I've known they can also be kindred people of GOD... I do not for a moment belief the average Adrian to be a worshipper of the Daemonic Azdrazi. But neither do I for a moment presume that this discovery of the righteous Ludrik Katzak is false. Let us laud this man for sniffing out and uprooting the filth of evil in a Canonist realm, with risk for his own safety. Now that this matter has been brought to the inquisition, I hope the Duke of Adria knows what is best and recognizes that judgement awaits all, and that the Duke would therefore renounce this putrid corruption of his fair land and despite political differences, proclaim his enemies in war to be brethren against the Azdrazi!" He'd nod to himself as he tapped Katzak's missive "Let the Duke speak God's virtue, and cleanse and purge this stain together with the Church. Let Adrian Canonists carry the torch and Aaunite Canonists the oil that will together burn the blight of the dragonkin."
  15. ENCHIRIDION VIRTUTIS Handbook of Virtue "Temperance" This book or thesis serves as a mirror to the book, written much earlier by Fr. Clemens of Karosgrad, called ENCHIRIDION PECCATI; the Handbook of Sin. As one might suspect, this writ shall instead detail those deeds and behaviors which are deemed virtuous within the Canonist Faith as to encourage this behavior among the faithful flock. The virtues described here will mostly be from the source central to this side of our faith; the Scroll of Virtue. However in addition to the virtues described in the Scroll, I shall also include those deeds and behaviors which over time have come to be deemed virtuous by the Church and Canonism as a whole, usually being derived from or related to the Scroll of Virtue. Laudetur Dominus, Acolyte Arnaud de Novellen Virtutes Libri - Virtues of the Scroll The category Virtutes Libri lists the seven capital or cardinal virtues of the Canonist Faith as described in the primary moral law; the Scroll of Gospel, where each of these is described in a Canticle. For exact wording, refer to the Scroll, here follows a contemporary explanation. Faith The virtue of confidence or trust in others, specifically in God and the doctrines of the Church. The virtue of faith is the virtue of true belief in Holiness and morality and trusting that God exists and God is right. Charity The virtue of wealth of spirit, of caring not just for the Lord but your neighbor too, be they brothers of the faith or not. The virtue of charity is sharing that which God has provided for us and providing for those who do not have enough, for when wealth is shared, it is multiplied. Temperance The virtue of self-restraint, of knowing your limits and setting limits to enjoying worldly pleasures such as food, drink and love. The virtue of temperance is enjoying the good things God has provided for us, but restraining ourselves from enjoying too much of a good thing as to keep in sight that which really matters. Diligence The virtue of work and effort, of spending ourselves fruitfully for a worthwhile cause, for the betterment of ourselves, others, and the world we share. The virtue of diligence is spending the time God has granted us in a manner where we may look down at our works from the Seven Skies, and rejoice in our accomplishment. Patience The virtue of endurance of the soul, of lasting through the trials and tribulations God set on our path, knowing that with time, the right way to react to them and overcome them shall be presented, or else we shall be lauded post mortem for our fortitude through our suffering. The virtue of patience is perseverance and tolerance. Fidelity The virtue of loyalty and staying true, to God but also to one’s worldly duties. Your station, the path set out for you, your role in life, was appointed to you by divine providence, and it is a virtue to stay true to the course that has been set out. The virtue of fidelity is loyalty to duties, your brethren and your spouse. Humility The virtue of being humble, of knowing one’s place and of being modest. We cannot and thus should not judge ourselves on our deeds and morals, for in the end it will be God who will be the judge. The virtue of humility is recognizing that we are but mortal vessels, not greater beings, and that in the grander scheme of things, both beggar and king are puny. Virtutes Ecclesiae - Virtues of the Church The category Virtutes Ecclesiae lists those virtues that were not outlined or specifically mentioned by the Scroll of Virtue, but have instead been deemed virtuous over time by the Church and Canonist society as a whole. These tend to relate to or be derived from the Virtutes Libri. Kindness The virtue of showing compassion and consideration for others, treating them the way oneself would like to be treated. Cleanliness The virtue of purity and keeping yourself and your surroundings clean, filthiness is a form of corruption of the work of God and could thus be argued to be the work of Iblees, thus getting rid of this filth is virtuous. Justice The virtue of doing the right thing in matters of morality, with choices made based on the morality of virtue and sin or in more day-to-day terms, secular law. Celibacy The virtue of abstaining from extramarital intercourse, for as described in the Scrolls; ‘none shall lie together but in holy union’. Forgiveness The virtue of granting one forgiveness for sins and trespasses, or of being forgiven. For the Scrolls state ‘you shall not raise a hand in wrath, nor in envy, nor in any kind of sin.’ The virtue of forgiveness is central to our faith, often being exercised through confession and penance. All of us mortals are prone to sin, thus we must be able to forgive one another. Hope The virtue of believing and thus expecting that God will deliver that which is good and righteous in the future. Everything is set out by God’s divine providence, thus in the end justice will be served and hope is the strength of the soul to hold out and wait for His holy justice. Gratitude The virtue of expressing thanks and appreciation for that which you receive. Not only does this virtue encourage charity, but it enables it, as without gratitude, there is no true charity, only meaningless giving. Honesty The virtue of speaking the truth and being trustworthy, many other virtues rely on honesty; without honesty there is no humility or faith for instance. Without honesty there can be no true morality, and he who is dishonest deceives not only his fellow man, but so too himself, though never the Lord. Tolerance The virtue of respecting the choices, states of being and beliefs of others, linked to kindness, humility and patience. While it is our duty as Canonists to try to guide the misguided, we must be tolerant with them for it is not up to us to judge them, that duty remains with the Lord God. Thus the best we can do with regards to upholding these virtues is to be tolerant with others, and strict with ourselves.

  18. Some of this has already been said I think, but I think a good way of mina generation would be a mixture of the following means; -Letting various nations/regions have unique resources so that nations can specialize and actually trade -Reintroducing a sort of tradesmanship like you had way back in the day with... nexus? or vortex? cant remember, but the one where you could pick a class or a role, like carpenter or w/e. Doesn't need to be as fleshed out as that was, but something where you need someone who picked a certain trade to craft certain items. -Bringing back the caravan system we had in Atlas. Not everybody liked doing that, but some people quite liked it as a means of making money and the trade caravans coming through did give off a very rp-friendly vibe imo. Plus it gives the pvp goons a nice source of roadside raiding rp? -Maaaaybe reintroduce the cloud temple admin shop that will buy up certain resources so that people who struggle to make money by other means can just trade in some resources for a small amount of minas? Not sure on this though. -Definitely reintroduce something like the npc monster hunting/bounty quest thing that I think we had a map or two ago. I think a lot of people quite liked that!

  21. Sat on the doorstep of his ranch house with his dog, Artiev thanked the farmhand that brought him a copy of the thesis that'd been spreading around. "All this talk of clergymen, church supporters and corruption critics..." He'd mutter as he read it, looking back up from the page. "I'll just be happy to be able to go to mass again and- HEY YOU THERE! KEEP MILKING THE GOD-DAMN CATTLE!"
  22. Artiev Colborn nodded as he read the treaty, pleased these great nations would work together.
