A Brief on Xionism
The Origins of its name
Xionism comes from Xion, the name given to the Abyss - Previously Aegis - by the Lord of Embers, after witnessing the battle of the Immortals Iblees and Aerial whose duel within the material realm destroyed the continent itself, turning Aegis into the Abyss: a blighted landmass of darkness and ruin, forever distorted by the battle between aenguldaemons.
“And thus the Abyss was born -- a giant scar which encompasses all that Aegis once had before it. Horrified by the destruction of Aegis, the Lord of Embers cursed the name of the Immortals, and proclaimed the Abyss as the damned realm of Xion.”
- The Desolation; Xion, iv
What is Xionism
Xionism is not a religion that worships unaffectionate powers but rather an ideological position that places oneself against the aenguldaemonic forces that many of the descendants across the continents tend to worship. Xionists believe that both aengul and daemon meddle within the mortal planes to further their own selfish goals, and hold no love or fondness for descendants, rather seeing them as a tool or slave in their own agenda.
“Adherents cite the Aenguls and Daemons as the source of destruction, as they are otherworldly and invade our realm in order to weave destruction…”
- The Foundation of Xionism, V.
Furthermore, Xionists see the curses and boons given by Iblees and Aerial as one of the same: mockeries that did nothing but inflict further harm on the already impacted curses. It is the Xionist stance that Aerial did no better than Iblees by meddling further immortal hands in the mortal planes and it was the Aenguldaemon’s further interventions that have created so much division within each culture, and within their own societies too.
“She blessed Malin with long life, shrouding his mind with impatience, for life under her magic became a breeding stigma and the conception of an elderly, tired culture obsessive for the sparse chance of children.”
- The Intrusion of the Immortals, III.
Light versus Dark
The understanding of light and dark within Xionism texts refers to the light being relevant to immortality and therefore deific energies, and the more mortal powers as ‘dark arts’. Notably this is not due to the macabre nature of such masteries, but rather the lens that dark arts originate on the face of Aos and Eos, rather than through some aenguldaemonic spirit. It is why Xionism holds disdain for the pact-magic utilised by warlocks, as though referenced by the common descendant as a ‘Dark Art’ it holds no relevance to the mortal realms, closer to the light if not by common misinterpretation of the duality of light and dark.
“...Out of this nature, that man is dark and gods are light, that mortal powers are called dark arts. They are the magics in which earthly substances -- lifeforce, blood, and ectoplasm -- are manipulated, making for such magics to be revered as sacred and hallowed…”
- The Foundation of Xionism, V.
The Four Lords
Supposedly the first undead descendents and wielders of the necromantic arts. These four lords of Horen used a draconic artifact to leech away Iblees’ own powers and become powerful necromancers in their own right. They became the founding members of the Dissentious way, the precursor of Xionism today.
“They used the darkening to steal away Iblees’ corrupted essence and transform it into an art of worldly alignment and higher truth, lending the four lords the powers to manipulate life itself. With this, they achieved mortal transcendence, and affixed upon their souls an everlasting nature.”
- The Fates of the Lords, in The Desolation; Xion, IV.
Xionism Paths
Xionism is divided into specific sects that embody the four lords that serve as genesis for Xionism. Although some remain dedicated, there are equally as many that serve as paragons of their paths. These sects may best be described as ejection, annihilation, co-operation and struggle respectfully, each holding a different stance on what intervention to use against the aenguldaemonic, if any at all.
“Within the Xionist ideology are four sects of faith dedicated to the four lords of the old times whom heralded the Dissentious Way, the ideological forebear to Xionism.”
-The Denominations of Xion, in The Foundation of Xionism, V.
Of Fire, The Lord of Embers. Pictured as a shadowed flame.
i. Violent ejection and exile of all aenguldaemonic influences on the mortal realm.
ii. Seeks to prevent the material and aenguldaemonic planes from interacting.
Of Umbrage, The Lord of the Dark. Pictured as a black sun.
i. Eradication of all aenguldaemonic forces, putting the descendants in charge.
ii. Seeks to immortalise all descendents.
iii. Seeks to use the life force within the cosmos to shield us from the sun and the light as a whole.
Of Harmony, The Lord of the Oaks. Pictured as a decrepit willow.
i. Seeks a peaceful removal of aenguldaemonic influences: seeking to also reverse the curses placed on descendants and reverting them to an undivided whole: an age of “harmony” undoing the culture divides between all.
ii. Believes life force to be the ultimate force of the material plane and gives us limitless potential
Of Strife, The Nameless Lord. Pictured as a shattered sword impaled into a bonfire of bones.
i. Desires the eternal struggle between aenguldaemonic forces, seeking the battle as a need that creates balance rather than a definitive outcome.
ii. Believes in battle and struggling internally to gain a true equilibrium. Seeing this as a “true peace” both in material and outside.
