  8. High Court of Justice of the Church of the Canon IN THE MATTER OF: The Church of the Canon v. Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp SUBMISSION BY THE PROSECUTION to the High Court of Justice of the Church of the Canon From: Alaric Bishop Altamirano Date: 21st of Owyn’s Flame, 2005 INTRODUCTION Purpose of the Submission: The indictment and conviction of one Countess Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp, on the charges of adultery, based on the sworn testimony of various individuals pointing to a disreputable character, evidence pointing towards the suspicious nature of her husband’s death, and an ailment that likely prevented him from conceiving a child to begin with. Though it is difficult to prove with absolute certainty a physical act of adultery, the prosecution firmly believes it is able to prove unfaithfulness in spirit, and the extreme likelihood of physical unfaithfulness. Nature of the Case: Countess Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp is hereby charged with committing a Crime Against Virtue, specifically the act of adultery. The party with whom she is accused of committing this crime is one Goran Wick, the current betrothed of the accused. This submission requests a trial of the accused be, without unreasonable delay, be conducted to determine her guilt in this matter. STATEMENT OF FACTS: Summary of Relevant Facts: - The husband of the accused perished recently, however he was ailing for some time prior to his death. The exact nature of his illness is unknown. - Goran Wick is the individual suspected of partaking in Adulterous behaviour with the Defendant. - A child, potentially sired from an adulterous affair, was born within the last year. - Goran Wick had personal access to the Cliffside Keep in Enswerp. - Goran Wick and Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp were betrothed to each other almost immediately after the death of her husband was discovered. - The body of Roan Alstion-Enswerp was discovered under suspicious circumstances, the names of those who brought forth the body to the Enswerp family are unknown. Chronology of Events: - Early in the year 2002 AD, the body and death of Roan Alstion-Enswerp was discovered, by the Enswerp family when his body arrived at the keep by unnamed travellers who had accompanied him on his travels. - Goran Wick was granted keys to the castle of enwserp, having thereafter access to certain chambers of his own free will. - On the 5th of Godfrey’s Triumph, in the year 2003 A.D, Roan Alstion-Enswerp was discovered to have perished. The same saint’s day as the “Bloody Diet”. However, before the discovery of his Death, Goran and Lorelai spent a considerable amount of time, alone, together in her chamber. Actions by the Prosecution to Date: - The Prosecution has interviewed one Goran Wick to receive further testimony to the matter at hand. - The Prosecution has reviewed all documents pertaining to the prior case in which these charges were first brought to the attention of the Court. - The Prosecution has interviewed and acquired affirmed testimony from the sister of the Defendant, one Lady Arya. - The Prosecution has interviewed Princeps Atticus Keen. PARTIES INVOLVED: Prosecution: Alaric Bishop Altamirano Defendant(s): Countess Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp Other Relevant Parties: - Goran Wick, suspected party to the crime of adultery. - Lady Arya, sister to the defendant - Atticus Keen, civil litigant of a prior related case. EVIDENCE RELIED UPON Summary of Evidence: - Sworn Affidavit // Testimony of Goran Wick - Sworn Affidavit // Testimony of Lady Arya Supporting Documentation: The prosecution submits the following evidence in support of its charges: Sworn Affidavit of Cynemar Elliot Minutes from HCA-001/04, Ivoria V. Enswerp Notice of Judgement of the Wick Family, Kingdom of Numendil Sworn Affidavit of John of Enswerp Relevance of the Evidence: - The Sworn Testimony of Lady Arya will prove the disdain Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp held for Roan Alstion-Enswerp, the love she holds for Goran, and the opportunity where they likely committed adultery together. - Exhibit A is relevant to the general character of the defendant, and illustrates precedent for behaviour to the crime in question. - Exhibit B are the minutes from the previous hearing that established chronology for the events, and shed light upon the situation in general. It will be referenced to further support the indictment. - Exhibit C establishes the criminal and sinful nature of the Wick family, and its general associates with unsavoury behaviour. It shall be used to establish the capacity of Goran Wick to engage, and persuade the Countess to commit Adultery. - Exhibit D establishes the distrust Lorelei’s own family holds for her, and her general tendency to violate the basic decencies of nobility and ladyship. LEGAL ARGUMENTS: Applicable Laws and Legal Principles: - Codex Lurius Canonici Danielus Pontifex, Second Edition, James II: Book V, Title II, Chapter I, §2. A person who engages in concubinage, adultery, or fornication has committed a crime. - Enchiridion Peccati, The Handbook of Sin: Adultery, The sin of being unfaithful to one’s partner in marriage. The sin of Adultery goes against the example set forth by the Lord through the wedding of the virtuous Horen and Julia as well as Adultery being a grave example of the sin of Lust. Application to the Facts: - The Prosecution contends that Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp committed an act of adultery with Goran Wick, and that this unholy union is evidenced by the birth of a child. - The Prosecution contends this child was not conceived in lawful wedded union, as the husband, Roan Alstion-Enswerp, has not been heard from in over a saint’s week; and was only discovered recently to be dead. Refutation of Defense Arguments: - The Defense, in the past, had claimed that these accusations are simply part of a scheme by the defendant's kin to steal from under her the lands of Enswerp. However, this claim is merely a distraction from the issue at hand; Claimants, had they their eyes on the County could have acted long before this affair to try and "steal" the lands of Enwserp from under her. RELIEF SOUGHT: Primary Relief Sought: The Conviction of Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp on the charge of adultery; and upon conviction, Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp’s disinheritance from her noble status and lands, and that she be forced to take monastic vows, in addition to other penalties the court deems fit. Additional Requests: The Prosecution finds no cause for additional relief at this juncture. Justification for Relief: Adultery is an offense against the people of the Canondom, the Church, and GOD, and must be adequately punished. PRAYER: In light of the foregoing, the prosecution respectfully prays that this Honorable Court may be pleased to: Find Lorelei Alstion-Enswerp guilty of the crime of Adultery, Revoke the Countess’ titles and lands as due punishment for her sin; and find a suitable Heir or trustee for these lands. SIGNATURE AND VERIFICATION: Verification: I, Alaric Bishop Altamirano, hereby affirm that the contents of this submission are true and correct to the best of my knowledge, information, and belief. Signature of the Prosecutor His Grace, Alaric Bishop Altamirano PLACE: The Holy See of Mount Lemon DATE: 21st of Owyn’s Flame, 2005 ON BEHALF OF: The Pontifical Prosecution
  9. Alaric, as he did perhaps once a decade, dropped his facade of confidence as the news reached him. He spilled his cup of Sauvignon on the tavern table in a slight fit of disbelief. "I didn't deserve to outlive you.." He blankly started at Lesanov thinking about the last meeting they had and the last words he had spoken too him. "You can call me Marius.." He murmured softly. It was one of the King's final acts to grant his mercy to the struggling House Valkonen, he was the one who gave the clan a chance they hardly deserved; a chance to prove their loyalty to the crown. Now, a different monarch would test the House' fealty and capability, but surely he would be most pleased. "Juliya awaits you in the skies, Marius...with open arms." He signed the Hussariyan, sighed deeply, and trotted his way to the Basilica for some purpose or another.
  10. I think there's an important balance, albeit a difficult one, that needs to be struck between niche RP and centralized roleplay. I disagree with the "destruction" style of warfare described above where mass eviction and decimation are only goals. I feel like we are missing out on a huge opportunity to have a "Occupied Territory" style of roleplay; a clash between the native, and conquering cultures. Opressing local populations, or even just trying to integrate/convert/etc the local population into the folds of the conquering one, seems like it could be something fun. Or at the very least, just the imposition of some taxes and a new ruler from the conquering nation could result in an interesting nuanced region, rather than just ruining what a community has tried to achieve. There could be an interesting dynamic of trying to throw of the yoke of the oppressor, even. Generally speaking, I don't think people ignore new players as much as some have described. I think most of the playerbase is fairly friendly and welcoming, but it still is absolutely cruical to engage them as early as possible into their stay on the server. To this end, I would suggest that cities open dedicated positions in the government that are for the settlement and integration of new players into their nations; we all want more people in our nations, and it should be partially responsibility of the nation to foster a welcoming atmosphere for new players. This even makes sense in roleplay, excepting the more xenophobic nations- governments have a reason to increase their levies and tax base. We have community team members who get players on the server, and help them with mechanical issues, but after that noobs are let loose into fairly daunting world. We should all be striving, IC and OOC, to find ways to help these players find their place. There needs to be places and opportunities for new players to get involved. I see this as best being done by groups with a low floor for entry, like armies accept next to anyone. Low-level positions with opportunities to rise through the ranks, or just get involved in group events and communities, are just as important as Generals, and Regents. I'm fairly optimistic that most of these things can be achieved, but I'm certainly happy to hear/see the staff getting themselves involved in these issues and pushing for positive change. But at the end of the day, it's upto the entire playerbase to ensure these problems are fixed. Everyone has a small role(to)play. Those with power, OOC and IC have more opportunities to effect these issues on a macro level, but on a micro level it's individual player that make a community open, or closed off. That's just my two cents! :)
  11. Family is full! Thank you for all who applied :) looking very forward to the renewed, valkonen house!
  12. The Bishop Andrikev was in the middle of writing a treatise of his own, albeit one of anger not love, as the good Cardinal's work crossed his desk. "It is increasingly evident why you were appointed to the Holy Mother's High Court, Father. It is glorious to find another adherent of the legal school." He mused, before returning to his inkwell.
  13. HELLO! Lortime/Kingcaouette6666 here. I play Alaric Valkonen on the server, and we are currently looking for someone to play Alaric’s Nephew; Bjorn Valkonen. (and potentially other characters!) The personality traits and pretty much anything else is upto you. The characters parents are no longer in the picture, so they would be primarily raised by Alaric. We are a small noble family looking for someone who is fairly active and willing to contribute to the success of the family. Raising funds, working in civil offices to gain prestige; there is plenty of flexibility, as long as you're active and willing to help rebuild the family :) In the near future, we hopefully will find more slots for family members aswell so feel free to contact me, I might be able to find something else for you if you would to join, but as a different character. Please contact me if you are interested in helping grow this small haeseni family! We have a skin here for you! Look forward to hearing from yall! Discord: therighthonlortime
  14. Vol I. On Secular Law in Holy Realms Published 2002 A.D, on the 13th of Sigismund's End A Monk Espouses the conflicts and Harmonys betwixt Canonist and Secular law. AS AUTHORED AND PROMULGATED BY HIS GRACE, ALARIC BISHOP ANDRIKEV PREAMBLE Since time hath began, man has been aimless, fraught with hapless desire and self-destructive tendencies. Left unchecked, man would be its own demise; yet humanity thrives. What is the sole halt upon the maddening desires of man that would bring RUINATION upon all of society? Law. Those statutes protected by a mutual desire for general safety and order, enacted by those wise monarchs who see what others fail too; a natural state of chaos that must be regulated, controlled, and curbed. These laws rest upon universal principles of good that must derive from some original source. How is it that such diverse and robust cultures, all penalize theft, robbery, murder? Because all law is an expression, occasionally distorted or a misunderstanding thereof, of GODAN’s holy virtues. So I say unto thee: HARKEN, Ye Goodfolk of the canondom and attend here my musings upon the intersection of Secular and Canonist law. O’ Blessed Lord, I ask you grant me your wisdom and insight as I seek to decipher and extoll your endless virtue in my thoughts upon this most fascinating and curious of subjects. Countless inquiries arise from this understudied subject; I seek to address as many as I can in this humble project. In seeking to determine what harmonies and conflicts exist between secular statutory law and the Canonist laws of the Holy Mother Church and GOD, one might mistake this document as being overly harsh or critical of the laws of canonist princedoms; this is indeed incorrect. This document merely serves an analytical purpose, seeking the TRUTHS of God, and perhaps as wholly benevolent and friendly advice to all canonist princes who query the holiness of their nations laws, and wish to amend them to bring the very core of their states closer to GODAN. This will be the first volume of a set of 2. This volume is chiefly meant to lay the framework for how secular law can, and ought, to align with the tenets of morality proscribed in the Scroll of Virtue. The second one shall inquire into the current state of secular law and how well it aligns with canonist precepts of virtue. May GODAN’s unlimited intellect grace us all in pursuit of TRUTH. Sections I. How can Secular Law ever be in line with Godan’s Laws? II. From where can we glean what our laws should be? III. Where are there Canonist-secular harmonies in today’s laws? (Vol 2.) IV. What nations excel or fail in holy law? (Vol 2.) Section I: The Alignment of Secular and Canonist Law All statutes are inherently a proclamation of the normative behavior that is expected of the honest and virtuous and consequently an establishment of what behavior is antithetical to good. We must note, that the origin of these definitions comes from different sources; Secular law is an expression of the normative will of the monarch (or in few cases, the general will of the people, such as that curious republican experiment of Salvo), whereas Canon Law is the direct expression of the normative will of GODAN. These two need not necessarily be separate, and inherently good, honest, virtuous monarchs’ wills oft align with GODAN’s. However, the possession of morality and goodness is not the only element that is necessary for the alignment of statues. Though GODAN calls us to be compassionate, there are notable times where the compassion of the monarch may run counter to the GODAN’s intentions. Indeed, though sympathy be a great virtue, greater still is the iron-clad moral of Justice. Naturally sympathy is a part of justice, for without sympathy for the victims of criminal behavior, there can be no justice. Consequently, as all laws are meant to achieve justice for the victim who doth been offended and harmed by the acts of another, all laws seeking to be holy in nature must consider the victims of the Church, the Canondom, and most importantly of all GOD. Lastly, the exact statutory composition of law can certainly vary, but it must include key components based on the sins outlined in Virtue. It can then be said that secular law most aligns with holy law when these statutes: Understand the Holy Mother Church, the Canondom and Her people, and GOD as victims of sin as all peoples are victims of crime. The Morals of a Monarch are aligned with the teachings of god. The Statues enclosed within a legal codex align with the sins outlined in Virtue. Section II: The Derivation of Law from Virtue Though GODAN’s true and entire wisdom can never be comprehended in it’s full majesty and awesomeness, humanity has been graced with an inherent codex from which it’s own laws might follow: The Holy Scroll of Virtue. Here, I shall enumerate what laws are directly derived from each of Godan’s 7 virtues; Indeed, this list may serve as a natural benchmark from which to judge the Virtuousness of secular codices of law. This subsection will discuss each passage, and consequently a legal recommendation for what law pertains to the enactment of each virtue. II.I - Faith There are two tenants within the canticle of faith from which law may be naturally derived; this is never to of course understate the immense importance of the excluded passages, but that their discussion is not pertinent in this specific theses. This applies to all the canticles discussed here. “And so I shall guide you in a theater of virtue, and the virtuous shall not live except by My Word.” Virtue, 1.7. From this auspicious passage, we are called to enforce the disallowance of heathenistic behavior. Thus, laws pertaining to the protection of honest, righteous canonists against heathens and their saulician methods, ought to be in every canonist princedom’s statutes. The second passage from which law might be derived from is as follows: “So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of My Virtue, I bid my faithful this: You shall not blaspheme My Word, nor any thing that is holy.” Virtue, 1.8. From this passage we glean the sin and thus the crime of Blasphemy. As opposed to heathenism, the crime of Blasphemy is a direct contradiction, or denunciation of GOD's holy words and virtue. Consequently, it constitutes it’s own category of crime and punitive measures. This is assuredly one of the most foul acts one can commit, and indeed can only be committed with great and grave ill intent; this wretched intentfulness increase the gravity of the act tenfold; for though a fool may offend GODAN, he can learn of his mistake and rectify it; those who seek to incur his wroth willingly and knowingly and the threshold for their SALVATION is much higher. Statutory Recommendation: “Any person who is found to adhere to the teachings, morals, virtues or general principles of a being, or philosophy other than canonism, is guilty of heathenism.” “Any person who willingly, of their own free volition, Blasphemes the teachings of GOD and His Holy Mother Church, shall be guilty of Blasphemy.” Punishment Recommendations: Blasphemy, being a willing act by its nature, demands a harsher punishment than accidental offenses against god. Consequently, blasphemers ought to have their tongues removed to prevent further offenses, and for despoiling the gift of language God has granted us. If Blasphemy was spread by writing, the removal of a hand shall be equally valid. Depending on severity, anything from the simple proscription of a prayer rule, to execution may be warranted. This is a sin that is highly dependent upon the actual act of heathenism. II.II - Charity The canticle of charity imparts a short yet crucial message from which we can understand that the absence of positive action can indeed constitute a crime and a sin. The passage pertinent to this discussion reads as follows: “So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of my Virtue, I bid my faithful this: You shall not desire the wealth of this world, nor the wealth of others, but the wealth of the spirit. I am the Lord GOD without peer, and My abundance is the holy abundance, and My wealth is the virtuous wealth, and all the blessings of the Virtue shall fall before the righteous who share it.” Virtue, 2.10-11. Two primary sins, and thus crimes can be derived from this text. Both shall be called Greed but shall be prefixed to better explain the specific misdeed that has occurred. First shall be, Idolatric Greed. This we shall define as the love of physical material wealth over the love of the wealth of the spirit. Though this is perhaps somewhat difficult to define in a criminal sense, nevertheless we must endeavor to find an adequate definition of this offense and a punishment therefore. I shall posit the notion that a person who would spend more time accumulating wealth for the sake of wealth, than they do praying or engaging in other faithful, spiritual activity be deemed guilty of the sin of Idolatric Greed. The next form of Greed shall thus be named Negligent Greed. This sin is the failure to be charitable within one's community. Regardless of means or wealth, every individual can never be excused from aiding those who are indeed, most in need of said aid. Consequently, Negligent greed is the crime of neglecting thy community and kin in lieu of protecting and hoarding material goods and wealth. Statutory Recommendations: “Any person who, as deemed by the law and their faithful community, to engage in wealth-accruing activity in excess of their duties to their brother and GOD in spirit, shall be deemed guilty of Idolatric Greed.” “Any person who is found to hoard and accumulate wealth, and neglecting those in need in their community, shall be found guilty of Negligent greed.” Punishment Recommendations: The estate and goods of the convicted ought to be divided thusly into thirds; from which 1/3rd will be tithed to the Church who can remedy ills and sins within the world with the funds, 1/3rd shall be donated to charities of their community, and the final third may be retained by the accused should they repent; lest they will be forced to divide their estate in half, to Church and Charity. The punishment for such an offense ought to inhibit wealth acquiring behavior and promote spiritual activity. This might include the revocation of a trade license, or the forced attendance of holy ceremonies- balance must be restored through such a punishment. II.III - Temperance From temperance, there is foremost a singular sin which can be derived from one passage near the end of the canticle, so this section will consequently be fairly brief. “So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of My Virtue, I bid my faithful this: You shall not lie with your kin, nor those of other tribes, and none shall lie together but in holy union.” Virtue, 3.9 The sin from this canticle is well-articulated in canonist law, and various jurisdictions, so I shall briefly reiterate. This is simply the sin of Adultery, and a grievous offense to GOD’s gifts; for the holy and blessed union of matrimony, only between canonist adults of the same race, should ever revel in the splendors of love. All other forms of sexual conduct is a disgraceful mockery of true love and virtue. Let those wicked beings who mock true, honest, moral love be punished as so. Statutory Recommendation: “Any person who lies with a member of another race, a member of their kin, or with another outside of the holy union of matrimony, shall be deemed guilty of Adultery.” Punishment Recommendation: The Offending parties ought to be castrated, so that they can no longer enjoy the gift of holy union and the pleasures of the body god tentatively gave us, for they hath despoiled themselves and mocked his intentions greatly. II.IV - Diligence I would like to simply point readers of this theses to another well-articulated document on the matter of idleness before I began my brief discussion of the topic; On Rest, By Father Reinhardt. It is a thorough articulation of the sin of idleness, and indeed how we ourselves are weakened by idleness. I fully encourage those interested to read the document in question, for a greater understanding of why idleness is such a wicked evil. Nevertheless, the chief passage from which insight upon criminality and sin can be gleaned is as follows: “So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of My Virtue, I bid my faithful this: You shall not be idle, nor forget your duties in favor of sloth.” Virtue, 4.8 Statutory recommendations: “Any person, who, given the opportunity, fails to engage in fruitful behavior, shall be deemed guilty of Idleness.” Punishment Recommendations: It is recommended those guilty of Idleness ought to be immediately put to work under the supervision of the state, with minimal compensation for survival. This shall assuredly instill within the idle an appreciation for a bountiful harvest, or a masterful craft. II.V - Patience It seems, especially in our current times, that the canticle of patience is often forgotten. This is a great tragedy; still, many secular laws already originate and design from GOD’s instructions of patience. Murder, Assault, and other such legal provisions are good articulations of the canticle of patience; thus I shall not here recommend a specific statute nor punishment, for many monarchs have done well in this field. As a brief reminder, I will reference here the specific passage which instructions us all, in it’s exact wording for the benefit of all: “So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of My Virtue, I bid my faithful this: You shall not raise a hand in wrath, nor in envy, nor in any kind of sin.“ Virtue, 5.9 As aforementioned, most legal codes prescribe punishments and articulate statutes well enough that I am pleased to say there is no particular need for recommendation. II.VI - Fidelity This canticle poses a somewhat difficult question; though the improvement of one’s lot in life is something to strive for, as in accordance with the canticle of Diligence, and so too it charity to thus improve the lives of others in accordance with Charity, God still yet calls us to not be filled with reckless ambition. How do we reconcile these contradictory instructions? Simply put, they are not contradictory at all. There are permissible and unacceptable forms of ambition. Hard Work, through industry and diligence ought to be rewarded in line with GOD’s call for diligence. However, to upset the order of the social strata or the economic order by trying to ruin or achieve the status of another, is unacceptable. Thus, though the merchant may afford himself a small estate or the worker a fair abode; he should never be allowed to enjoy the ordained privileges of the aristocrat, royal, or monarch; for this is the order given to us BY GODAN. Let us here reference the exact passage: “So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of My Virtue, I bid my faithful this: You shall keep fast to your word and station, and aspire not to greatness among men, but to My glory.” - Virtue, 6.8 Statutory Recommendation: “Any person who is found attempting to deliberately upset the social and economic order, beyond what is acceptable for the betterment of one's own life, be found guilty of Infidelity.” Punishment Recommendations: Depending upon the severity of the action, the revocation of titles, lands, or confiscation of property that is being used to upset the social order is necessary; and an act of humbling, such as forced labor in the fields or confinement as a monk, to allow them to realize the natural order of the world better. II.VII - Humility Last, but most assuredly not least, we turn to humility; a virtue that is all too often outright ignored, as braggarts and boasts fill taverns and spill forth into the streets, hailing themselves and ignoring the true glory of god. This is certainly an issue that needs to be addressed, with urgency. “ For I have given to you a theater of virtue, and I have ordered the estates of the world. And you shall be without pretense or conceit, for before the mountain, the ant and the aurochs are equally small. So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of My Virtue, I bid my faithful this: You shall not judge your own virtue, be it great or small, for all fall short of Me.” Virtue, 7.7-8. From this, we ascertain that a grievous offense is the place oneself upon the pedestal of glory where only one should and can, reside; GODAN. This sin is particularly insidious, because not only does it make the incorrect assumption, that mortals, even the Exalted themselves, could ever equal, rival, or supersede the glory of his light. For this, death is the only reasonable punishment. Thankfully, very few hubrises are filled with such egoism to foolishly believe such a thing, nevertheless it is important to enforce humility. Thusly, derives two crimes in particular from the violation of this canticle. Let us name the first, Grand Hubris. This is an offense where one has elevated themselves so far above and beyond reality, to claim they are equal to an Exalted, Saint, Aengul, or GODAN. The second shall be called, Petty Hubris. This is simply the crime of braggarts and petty charlatans, who claim untrue deeds or heroics, or believe themselves superior to the common or noble man. Statutory Recommendations: “Any person who, with such foolish contempt, claims themselves equal or superior to the Exalted, the Saints, the Aenguls, or GODAN be guilty of Grand Hubris.” “Any person, with such foolish contempt, claims themselves equal or superior to their common brother, or Noble, Cleric, or other leader of society, be guilty of Petty Hubris.” Punishment Recommendations: There is no other fair punishment than death. Petty hubris is a somewhat minor, yet sinful offense- let the punishment be equal to assault, for hubris is an assault upon the honor of others. Explicit volumen unum. Though my heart will always belong to my homeland of Haense, I will not let my personal love of my countrymen inhibit my services to the non-raev of this diocese. We are all children of GOD in equal measure. I encourage all members of my flock to meet me personally, if you so wish. I am most often found in the Aleksandrplatz Plaza of Nau Valdev. Elsewise, I often visit the Holy See and will be making many more trips and visits to Hsypia henceforth and hereafter. Please send any and all correspondence to me if you have questions, inquiries, requests or notices relating to any ecclesiastical business within the Diocese of Andrikev. To briefly clarify, the Diocese of Andrikev covers all territories west of the river lehy, ending roughly before veletz according to historical maps of the territory; thusly, if you live within this territory, these Bulls and my services are applicable to you. In particular, the Sovereignty of Hyspia is the largest province within the diocese, and my duties will be concentrated within the realm. The Hyspian Clergy In the recent Saint’s Days, I have been in close contact and discussion with Her Serene Highness, Xiomara I regarding the needs of Hyspia, in ecclesiastical matters. To my dismay, the Capital is in need of many services, which have been neglected in years past. I seek, with haste tempered by wisdom and caution, to rectify these various issues as Follows. Parish Priests As it stands, the Capital city of Hyspia, for some time prior to my appointment, has lacked an actual Parish Priest; a permanent, dedicated representative of God to serve the community. H.S.H Xiomara I, has informed me that various members of the citizenry wish to take up the cloth. To expedite the assignment of clerics to the city, I am personally accepting any Acolyte to come under my tutelage, in training for their eventual ordination, or a continuation of their lay services within the Diocese. As it stands, the following positions are sede vacante and will be filled once the Clergy of Hyspia has a properly established presence within the nation: Pastor of La Dorada This is the permanent parish priest for the ecclesiastical province of La Dorada, Hyspia. Must be an Ordained Priest. Preferably Hyspian. Vicar of La Dorada The Vicar’s role is to aid in the tasks of the Pastor; essentially an assistant/deputy to the office of the pastor. Must be an Ordained Priest. Preferably Hyspian. This role is to be appointed by the Pastor of La Dorada at their discretion. Deacons Deacons remain members of the laity, promoted from Acolytes without ordination. They are not permitted to perform sacraments on their own, but may assist a Vicar or Pastor in their duties, take care of church properties, and provide other services. There is no set office or quantity of deacons; as many as wish to serve may. In the coming Saints’ weeks, as necessary, additional posts may be established should there be a sufficient need for a community within Andrikev to have a dedicated agent of the church at their service. SO come ye faithful children of Godan, seek myself if you wish for your induction into the most holy Priesthood of the Canon. There are few higher expressions of faith than utter and total dedication of one’s life and career to GODAN. I eagerly await candidates for these offices. Establishing a Seat for the Diocese As it currently stands, to the best of my personal knowledge, the Diocese of Andrikev lacks a seat for its spiritual leadership. To rectify this, various options are being considered for the construction of a cathedral which will serve at the center of the Diocese. Foremost among them are; The Reconstruction of the Church of Blessed Francisco into a proper cathedral. (In the coming weeks, I will be consulting and coordinating with H.S.H Xiomara I on this potential option.) The acquisition of land in a central location within the diocese for the construction of a Cathedral, with the potential for a monastery to be connected to the building proper. I would humbly encourage anyone who would like to support this project, to offer donations of skill, coin, or land for the construction of this most holy site to be a gathering place for the faithful. It is only through the devotion of the whole, that such projects are achievable; any donations will be most appreciable in this effort; GODAN smiles upon thee kindly patrons who fund the efforts of His Clergy. A Reminder to the Faithful of Rights’ and Duties’ All pious canonist citizens are blessed with the services of the church, and the rights of the faithful. Whether this be the matrimonial sacrament, consecration, confession, or simply friendly advice from a member of the clergy; however these privileges are not granted without condition. The duty of all canonists is to aid in upholding the laws of the church, those great tenants based on the fundamental principles of justice and virtue. Thus, I humbly beseech the flock of Andrikev to report any and all violations of canon law to myself, or a parish priest, to investigate the matter and adjudicate the necessary punishments for these sinful transgressions. Do not fear repercussion from the accused parties; for whether they be vindicated by God's light, or condemned for their sins, no harm shall come to GOD’s witnesses. This is a crucial obligation for the expulsion of sin and the denunciation of vice; one every good canonist ought to consider their personal duty. The procedure for a petitioner to initiate a case against a violator of canonist law is to report the individual, with any possible evidence or witnesses to the violation, to the pastor of the ecclesiastical province in which the violation occurred. Until parish priests are appointed within the diocese, that is myself, Alaric Bishop Andrikev. Thencely, a trial will be held to determine the guilt, penance of the violator. I will personally preside over any such trials until a pastor is duly appointed to the La Doreda. On the matter of the execution of HOLY JUSTICE, Arkel Wolf, an Acolyte of the Holy Mother Church, is hereby appointed as an officer of the diocese; he will be tasked with protecting members of the clergy and apprehending violators of holy law. Of course, his duties will not intrude nor conflict with the legal frameworks of the Sovereign territories within Andrikev. The Church fully respects the laws and traditions of canonist states and shan’t interfere with the dispensation of secular justice. In the future, should the need and interest arise, I will consider the formulation of a small order of officers to carry out these duties on a larger, more organized scale. It is the duty of every faithful to not only avoid sin, but repudiate it when it occurs. Concluding Remarks In conclusion, I wish to express the many opportunities that await the faithful and clergy of andrikev. Though historically this diocese has been oft’ neglected, I intend to reinstall lost fervor, and invigorate myself and my flock to serve God, their community, and themselves in the best way possible. Andrikev shall blossom into the most beauteous image of faith, piety, and righteousness in the coming days, weeks, months and years. For all this, we pray. IN NOMINE DEI His grace, Bishop of Andrikev, Royal Chaplain of the B.S.K, Royal Alderman, Court Chaplain to the Sovereignty of Hsypia
  19. Issued by the Office of the Bishop of Andrikev, in the year 2000. A Retinue of young soldiers reflects upon the Saints that guide their efforts. In Dedication to Saint Karl “The Boulder” Barbanov; namesake of the most pious and stalwart Brotherhood of St. Karl. O’ gather ye merry soldiers and attend here the legacies of warriors, knights, and kings who still extoll their virtues to us all from beyond the grave. Oft’ we believe that our duties as canonists to this world ends as we grace the Seven skies above, and for most, this is generally true. Most of us will simply leave behind fond memories, ashes and our possessions to be held and cherished anew by kin. Yet some, the most righteous and excellent among us, leave behind a name, the very essence of themselves; those we come to recognize as Saints. Those Holy individuals who bless us with their ordained miracles, aweing, inspiring and invigorating even the youngest page, and even the most grizzled veteran. O’ canonist soldiers across aevos, allow me to remind and enlighten you as to the very beneficiaries of your battles, the patrons of your patrols, the guardians of your gates; THE SAINTS OF WAR & BATTLE I must first begin by offering my thanks to Ser Rickard of the Brotherhood of St. Karl for inviting me to give a sermon on this very topic; and his subsequent recommendation that my speech be transcribed into a more lasting form; Spasiba to vy. Equal thanks is owed to the authors of the Legenda Sanctorum, or The Lives of Saints. Their excellent volumes on the holy lives of our most revered Saints has proved invaluable in the creation of this supplementary document. Blessings upon you all. I have also written a small prayer dedicated to each of the Saints’ listed here, to encourage renewed connection between the common soldier and these blessed heroes of eras bygone. ST. KARL BARBANOV Patron of Strength, Fortitude, and Prisoners of War Karl Barbanov, Son of Emperor Alexander of the Holy Orenian Empire, would become the namesake of the Brotherhood of Saint Karl, the armed forces of the Haense; his spirit is invoked to this very day for the protection of haeseni soldiers, and for glorious victory in their endeavors. All his life, even when surrounded by opulence and the temptations to stray from GOD, did Karl maintain a close and strong connection to the creator. It is a testament to his unwavering faith, that while surrounded by heathens throughout much of his life, their saulician dogma and heretical teachings never did sway him. Furthermore, upon taking Castle Hiebenhall , his very first project was the erection of St. John’s Chapel; Yet make no mistake, he did not merely give order for the construction of this holy place, he took upon himself to lay every single brick of the chapel until it was complete. An astonishing feat, demonstrating the willpower and strength god imbues in his most faithful disciples. It was St. Karl’s early conquests that would reunify the Northern realms under a singular banner, bringing humanity ever closer to its ordained unity under GOD. His final act as a mortal upon this plane, was a noble deed beyond compare. As the walls of his city crumbled around him, terror and fear inspired by a massive, monstrous worm devouring citizens and buildings alike; an idea dawned upon him. He recalled the explosive cache his Grandfather had left behind, likely intended to destroy walls or mine ore. St. Karl decided they had a better use; the obliteration of the beast. He dived into the worm, clutching powerful explosives in his hand, sacrificing himself for the safety and protection of his citizens. His sacrifice reminds us that in the line of duty; our lives are not our own, and we should be willing to sacrifice anything so others have to sacrifice nothing at all. Miracles: Lifting Boulders off of trapped soldiers during the Battle of Kraken’s Watch, after receiving a prayer; their salvation came for those holy soldiers. The Brelus Granaries, which were constantly plighted by pests and rot, were safe evermore after an icon of Blessed St. Karl was installed in the granaries. A traveling monk caught in a terrible blizzard was saved by a golden light sent by St. Karl to guide him out of the storm In Reflection of St. Karl’s Valour, Let us pray: The Soldier’s Price Blessed Saint Karl, Instill your endless courage, In every warrior of GOD, That they understand the valor of faith, And forever place themselves ‘fore the weak, That when the arrows loose, and the flails strike, That no innocent shall ever pay The Soldier’s Price. In Nomine Dei, et Nomine Exaltus, AMEN. ST. EDMOND OF LACHSIN Patron Saint of Knights, Hospitality, Baronial lords, and the Auvergnian People Named Ser Edmond Brunswick, A veteran of countless wars, he began his great deeds in the Order of the White rose. He was particularly renowned for his Mercy; though his reputation for valour was of equal import, and earned him a Knighthood, under St. Peter, King of Kaedrin. He eventually settled down after years of battle, as a landed Knight; humble and hospitable to all who sought refuge in his lands, even offering mercy and protection to elves, fleeing persecution. Even in his retirement, when the call of duty sounded across the Auvergnian lands, he rose up with his men and fought once more until GODAN called him to the skies as he perished on the fields of battle. Miracles: During a Duel betwixt two knights, one attempted a most foul move; poisoning the end of his blade. Curiously, he accidentally cut himself, mumbling in Auverginain, a tongue he never knew, as he died; likely caused by the intercession of St. Edmond. After his death, at the Battle of the Bridge, an Urguanian flanking maneuver was revealed to Orenian Officers by having their swords burst into flame, and levitate in the direction of the planned attack, giving them valuable tactical info. The Chivalric Ode O’ St. Edmond, In life and in death you strove for Honour, Dignity, and Mercy; We Beseech thee, in humility and genuflection, GRANT us Chivalry, That we may uphold your legacy And inspire in our most heartless foes And our most stalwart brothers, The Virtue of Honor. In Nomine Dei et, Nomine Exaltus, AMEN. ST. EMMA OF WOLDZMIR Patron Saint of the Schism War, Soldiers, Loyalty, Valour against odds and Adrians. St. Emma came from chaotic origins, born into the House Vladov, as entropy reigned within her kin. It is said, one evening, she dreamt of a Grand Battle, trying to aid those holy armies in their strife, but none could hear her pleas. Awakening, she found herself still tortured by this vision, and was inspired to take up the Sword; in hopes her strength would be seen, unlike her voice that went unheard in her dreams. Eventually, she found herself in charge of the entire canonist coalitions forces, at the precipice of the Schism wars. With nothing but her piety and will, she would bring victory to the canonist forces and GOD. Miracles: During the Bloody Ducal War, an Adrian woman with her babe were distraught, accidentally caught in the Battle of Barrowyk. But Lo; a mysterious arrow shot forth from the skies, right beneath the woman's feet, sending her tumbling underneath the keep to find a secret exit. Later in the Dukes’ War, some Adrian Soldiers begged for St. Emma’s Intercession; to which she happily did, as an apparition she revealed herself, leading to Zealous fervor; she led the troops in the battle against the exocommicant’ Titus De Sola, and won a crushing victory. To Wield Faith Saint Emma, Your Faith you wielded as A weapon greater than hammer or sickle; Teach us pious brothers and sisters, How virtue can be Sharper than steel, As quick as a bolt, And unyielding as the tallest shield. In Nomine Dei, et Nomine Exaltus, AMEN. ST. PETER OF GAERKIN The Patron saint of Military Orders, Victory in Battle, and Plight Against Heathens. It was this nobleman who aided in the founding of the Order of the white rose, he was relentless and unfailing in his strife against heathens, and eventually rose to kinghood and the rank of Emperor of the Imperium. Miracle: An Elven Heathen once wandered into the capital of Kaedrin, to convert and corrupt righteous canonists, to lead them away from god; but as he passed a bush of roses, it burst into flames, burning the elf enough to make him flee and abandon his heathenistic mission. The End of Heathens O’ St Peter, You knew throughout your life, The greatest threat to humanity and to god, Was those foul creatures who, Infiltrated and shook the faith of honest men. Help us to root out these, Beasts of iniquity, That we may never be deceived by, Snake-tongued vermin, The Enemies of God. In Nomine Dei, in Nomine Exaltus, AMEN. ST. OTTO II OF HAENSE The Patron of Crusaders, Family, and Charity St. Otto, one of the great kings of the Haense, was known especially for his humility all his life. He saw a great economic and cultural boom of the haeseni people, as the nation flourished under his great reign. He was personally responsible for the creation of many medical institutions, as well as institutions of faith- and the first irrigation system in the nation. He donated immense funds to canonist charities, and helped revive theologically based science in the nation. As the third crusade broke out, St. Otto played an important role as a leader of the canonist forces. He, alongside other generals, succeeded in the immense task of capturing the pagan capital of the enemy forces. His memory is beloved by clergyman and haensemen alike, and he is venerated throughout the Holy Mother Church for his countless blessed deeds, and honored by his descendants and the citizens of the realm of the Haense for integrating faith back into the institutions of the nation. Miracles: During the bloody conflict of the Rubern War, the imperial army suffered a great many losses. The only major victory of the entire war came after New Rezan soldiers invoked the name of St. Otto II, and routed the enemy forces with ease. A soldier in the same way, stuck behind enemy lines nearly died; except after a prayer to St. Otto, the barrage of arrows that almost claimed his mortal life, were miraculously stopped amidst the air, giving him time to flee into the city of New Reza. Renewal of Faith O’ St. Otto II, You returned to GOD what was his, And renewed the pious devotion of your people. It was by your hand, your charity, your fidelity, That you modeled what a true child of god should be. In these trying times, we ask that you inspire us once more, To renew our own faith, and return to the path from which we stray. In Nomine Dei, et Nomine Exaltus AMEN. LET US never forget those great warriors, those GREAT men and women who embody the ideals of Brotherhood, of Holy Righteous War, of Vigilance and Might. Let these Blessed Saints live in your hearts, bring fortune and success to every arrest, skirmish, and conquest of all good canonists, that is undertaken, forevermore. IN NOMINE DEI His grace, Bishop of Andrikev, Royal Chaplain of the B.S.K, Royal Alderman
  20. A Note would be pinned beneath the main post announcing her election in Aleksandrplatz. FROM THE OFFICE OF ROYAL ALDERMAN FATHER ALARIC: I wish to offer Grand Maer Lujza my sincere and heartfelt congratulations. I look forward to cooperating with you on legislative matters in your coming term. May the coming term be a fruitful one for the Duma and the Haense. Krusae Zwy Kongzem. Signed,
  21. Casus Belli Dei God’s Justifications for Holy and Righteous War In Dedication to Exalted Owyn, Patron of War, Fire and Purity. “Crush your Foes, Holy Owyn, As you did when you led to people, And smote them from skulls to greaves! Take pity upon me, wretched and lost am I And rescue your faithful servant.” Litany of Intercession of the Rite of Oywn As the Robertine Crusade rages across the continent, and as the Holy Nations of the Canondom find success after success, we must consider that these victories are only achieved through the grace of GOD. It is a sign of His Favour that countless military successes follow the armies of the canondom, but the questions remains: What is God’s Justification for this war, or any war? It is thus we turn to the theses of past scholars, and the Holy scrolls for insights into this matter. Though this matter is of theological importance, it also bears weight on the success of a conquest. A Just Holy war will always succeed; it can thusly be assumed that failed conflicts must have lacked the necessary Casus Belli Dei. Therefore, it is the goal of this essay to define what exactly is a Just and Holy war in the eyes of the LORD. I. ON THE HOLINESS OF VIOLENCE First, we turn to historical precedent in our search for definitional proof. The Scroll of Gospel proves most enlightening in this matter; proof here lies that war, o’ that most vile and vicious of conflicts, can indeed be practiced by Holy men, in a righteous way: “Though the people of Edel were virtuous, they were steeled by warfare, and neglected prayers in favor of battle. They were cold and had no mirth in them, for Edel was the last good kingdom of Horen’s people.” Gospel, 4.3-4 The Edelites represent the first mention of warfare and virtuousness within the same polity. It can thusly be understood that strength of arms can coincide with virtuousness; indeed we see that the last holy kingdom in the time of Edel, was itself. This is the first establishment of warfare as a noble and holy art, and thusly there can be no question that some war is inherently righteous. This dismisses any concerns that violence, in all it’s forms, is unacceptable to god. II. THE PREVENTION OF SIN & REJECTION OF SLOTH Let it be understood; to fail to act to prevent sin, is to commit a sin it it’s own right. The Scroll of Virtue advises us against the wretched transgression of sloth: “ So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of My Virtue, I bid my faithful this: You shall not be idle, nor forget your duties in favor of sloth.” - Virtue 4.6 GODAN Bids us to never forget out duties; our duty of diligence extends beyond the home, beyond the township, beyond the nation to the entirety of the world. THAT an egregious transgression against HOLY VIRTUE taketh place in another village, or still further yet another nation, is not an excuse for slothful ignorance and complacency. Thus, we must consider that Holy Violence and Holy War is justifiable on the grounds of; 1). Preventing another from commiting sins of a grievous nature. 1.1) In the anticipation of sin being committed. 2). The avoidance of the sin of slothfulness by failing to prevent sin. These are the chief and foremost reasons, according to the very word of GODAN that we must engage in Holy War against Saulician filth and Iblessian servants. III. OF AUSPICE AND STRIFE O’ ye pious brothers and sisters in GOD, we now turn to the Holy Scroll of Auspice delivered by Exalted Sigismund, telling of the end of days for examination. We see, that paradise, though indeed eventually achieved by the children of GOD, is not gifted, granted nor bartered for through wit and guile. The achievement of PARADISE is only through a toilsome strife against the Ibeelsian ilk who will seek to corrupt and degrade all that is Holy and Right upon this world. Yet friends, do we not see this very day, the same unholy servants of the Archdaemon himself acting at his behest to pervert all we belove? Though the end times hath not yet arrived, we must understand that STRIFE and BATTLE is not reserved for circumstances so dire; but rather that Auspice represents the vigilance and fervour we must take up NOW, lest we find ourselves inexperienced in the ways of battle, and unfamiliar with the great toll it will cost to achieve the greatest reward there is, Paradise. It is ONLY through VIGILANCE, BATTLE, and GREAT STRIFE today do we truely ready ourselves for the day Saulician Forces rise up in a number beyond count, and try to claim what is GOD’S. Though our Blessings are given to us, beyond our deservedness and beyond reproach; VICTORY is never costless and TRUMIPH is never granted. GOD will always lead us to RIGHTEOUSNESS, but the resounding call of JUSTICE can only be answered by those who FIERCELY fight to uphold it. IV. FLAMENISM, TO REIGNITE A DYING FLAME It brings my heart great sorrow to hear so little of the great Flamenist tradition of clergyman in this truely trying and dark times. It is my hope to lend some weight to the reignition of this dying tradition of the faith, in the hopes fellow clerics will take up the Flame of Oywn, once more, and use it as a light to guide the militant faithful. I direct those who might find themselves holding reservations against flamenist methods of faith, to Father Raymond’s Adhemer’s Thesis, On Flamenism for greater insights into the sect. Hereafter, let there be no fear that our militancy is anything but the highest expression of GOD’s will and of our wholehearted Faith. Signed, Royal Alderman, Chaplain to the Brotherhood of St. Karl
  22. "A burgeoning nation finds it's place within the Canondom. It's beautiful to see the Republic Blossom. GODAN bless ze republic." Father Alaric mused with soft smile, as he took his evening stroll.
  23. Father Alaric quietly tapped his desk as he glanced over the excommunication petition that sat in front of him, increasingly tempted to fill it out for his fellow, dear, Jorenic clergyman. "Milodrag.. remind me who decided to ordain you..?"
  24. "This is the kind of Citizen of that truly cares about God and ze haense. Ea will personally introduce the matter in the Duma, mea constituent." Father alaric would beam with pride at his fellow citizens' zealous enthusiasm for faith.
  25. Exalted Sigismund Graces the Haeseni ☨ In Dedication to Exalted Sigismund, Our Saviour. To High Pontiff Ro’eh Tzon, The Curia, And all Canondom, Hear our testimony. O’ Blessed be this day that I compose this letter in recognition of the unmistakable blessing brought upon the holy city of Nau Valdev. As an unholy darkness did encompass the city, and vile darkspawn fell upon our gates, our salvation came to us from the SKIES. The Tomb of Exalted Sigismund shone brighter than the most sacred star, as light engulfed the citizens and darkspawn alike to only banish these foul wretched beasts from the city. In attempting to determine the most accurate timeline of events for posterity and investigation’s sake, I hath conducted interviews of those present and their evidence presents the events as follows: As testified to by Her Royal Highness, Lady Palatine Milena Anastasya, & Lord Stanislav var Ruthern, & Myself, Father Alaric Valkonen It begun as the sky darkened over Nau Valdev, with various citizens gathered near the gate planning an excursion to search for a lost boy. It was as if a shadow had passed over the land, a voice rang out threatening harm. Her Royal Highness bid the citizenry to take shelter within the Basilica of St. Joren and the Broken Chains, to which many heeded his instruction. A distinct sense of dread washed many in the city. Then visions began; everyone began to see themselves and others warped into horrid abominations. Even the children appeared to be gripped by these wretched demonic transformations. Her Royal Highness speculates the intention was to deceive and turn the citizens of the city against each other, having them murder each other in the false belief their countrymen were corrupted into beastly beings. A sinister voice acted as the harbinger for these most wicked visions. It claimed to be a being of immense power, unstoppable might, mocking the citizens for their attempts to find safety in a sacred place of GODAN. (Note, young Miss Ipera Var Ruthern mentioned the voice was similar to the voice that struck Vidaus.) As the situation grew increasingly dire, Her Royal Highness, called upon Exalted Sigismund, blessed be his name, to intervene, from atop his ceremonial tomb within the city. She asked him to defend the people, his descendant- and thus, Light did emerge in a fashion most awesome and breathtakingly, and thus spoke a voice: “BEGONE!” And so, the darkspawn that wrought most wicked illusions upon the haeseni, were banished in an instance by the light and word of Exalted Sigismund. Though this is all that occurred within Nau Valdev that day, it is worth noting that during a joust in Vidaus, Patriarch Villorik and Lord Stanislav were set upon by visions of a ritual, being held deep, down beneath the mountain Castle Morteskvan sits atop. It is the suspicion of Lord Stanislav that these events are intertwined. We Report unto thee, from Highest Cleric to the common parishioner, these events so you may both be prepared against any such dangers to come, and may rejoice in knowing the exalted ones still grace us with their Holy protection to this very day. It is my personal recommendation that further investigation be undertaken by the Holy Mother Church to uncover possible pertinent information in our tireless crusade against all wicked things and the darkspawn that plague our Holy Land. Signed,
