The first dream

 

 

   Rathina woke up in a daze, Shaking her head and looking to the charcoal stick in her hand, then to the picture in front of her. She smiles and without another thought, goes to continue her work, humming lightly as she does so. Becoming lost in her art she neglects to notice her bedroom door opening, her mother walking through with a soft look to her face.

 

"Rathina" she calls out as she enters the room, Rathina picks up her head, still laying on her belly, her legs up in the air, swinging as her drawing lays in front of her on a small piece of flat wood "What are you doing sweetie?" Rathina doesn't answer, instead, she lifts the picture up for her mother to see

 

 

 

 

Her mother looks at the picture, a expression that, in the moment, Rathina couldn't comprehend

 

"Maln" she says simply, looking to her mother as she takes a seat at the edge of rathinas bed "Your maln, Khel?" Rathina nods, as she works on the final touches "wh-where did you see him.." her mother presses, Rathina Flips the page and points to a near perfect drawing of the Kalos docks "I have his  eyes!" she beams. Not understanding her mothers hurt and worried expression

 

"Rathina, never go out again, without my knowing, am i clear" Her mothers stern voice took Rathina by surprise but she nodded "I was just...playing..." she frowns, her mother let out a sigh and gave rathina a loving embrace  "I just want you safe..." she says simply  before leaving the room.

 

 Rathinas vision becomes dazed and faded, everything blending together slowly, tunnel vision setting in until all she sees is darkness

 

   “Rathina!” Ava scolded the next day “What did i tell you about going with your father, I told you not to go around him...someone got hurt around your father, I will watch you, ill protect you.” The cold tone in avas voice cut into rathina’s mind like the swift flick of a blade. A frown etched itself on rathina's face "got hurt? How" she clinged to her mother. Ava looked down at rathina and lifted her hand to gently  run her fingers through her hair, Shaking her head with a soft sigh "A bad person hurt someone else" ava explains with a stern expression. "Bad people?" Rathina frowned,not fully  understanding her mother's  explanation " I don't know who they are, but I will protect you." Silence fell between them until rathina giggles broke the quiet and hugged her mother

  

  "maln will keep me safe!" A deep seeded frown shows on ava's  face "not really sweetie. I do"  rathina huffed but you are maln" ava smiled slightly shaking her head "I forget sometimes that you're only six, no dear. I'm haelun. Not maln"

 

Rathina  giggles "elven is hard!"

"Ill teach you. Don't worry." Avas calm gentle tone emited through the house

  

"yay!" Rathina jumps in excitement “So...mommy is haelun. And daddy is maln....Hai..l..un" she tries to pronouce

"Haelun." Ava corrects

"haelun" she tries again

Very good! Or in elven. Ayla." A nod of approval sends a smile on Rathinas face, she goes to nuzzle against avas leg

 

   The mist soon flows around her vision again, everything fades until only darkness is left

 

Rathina comes to, finding herself hearing her mothers soft voice, comforting yet determined

"I promise to keep you safe. Don't worry. We'll run off far away and be happy." Avas tone darkens to a serious, matter of fact way of speech, making rathinas smile melt off her face

“why run?"  The confusion rises in Rathinas watery eyes  

Ava sighs "To be together and safe. I promise.." She sends her hand to brush gently against Rathinas cheek, moving her bangs behind her ears

 

“we not safe here?”

"No...no..we aren't."

why mommy?"

"Too much bad..Just trust me." she squeezes her tight.

Rathina frowns deeply, not understanding  "what's bad"

"Look, sweetie, I will explain when you are older.." Ava protests in a adamant, decisive voice.  

Rathina huffs angrily , stomping her foot "awww i wanna know now"

"You trust me don't you?" Ava pleads

Rathina looks up at ava and nods softly

"Then let me take us both away. And I promise to save you.”

“save me from what mommy?"

"The mean world. Trust me. I know I don't make sense right now."

frowns "o-okay mommy...but...what about daddy...?" she asks

"What about him?"

A small whimper emits from rathina "Well we see him?" i had fun when i had the day with him"

"I would rather not.." Ava goes silent for a bit, her gaze shifts uncomfortably

“b-but why....”

"He hurt me badly dear. I don't like him and I don't want you to be hurt too."

"maln hurt you?" Rathinas eyes widen in shock

"A lot." Avas nod sends a confirmation

Rathina looks to the ground, her eyes welling with water  "maln was... mean?"

"Yes."

"why was maln mean?"

"Because he is...heartless.."

Rathina whimpers  and brings her knees to her chest "thats...not good..."

"Its part if why we need to go soon"

"where are we going?"

"Somewhere safe. Don't worry about it."

Rathina nods and goes to hug her mother, clinging to her

Ava hugs her tightly. "We'll go soon and haelun will be nice and sweet as she always is."

Rathina smiles "i love haelun!

:"I love you too sweetest Rathina."

Rathina Yawns slightly and keeps her smile. Ava lifts her into her arms and carries her to a corner where the curl up, rathina follows her moms lead curling up into a tiny ball, cuddling with the necklace khel gave her

“Mommy, when do we go?”

"Today or maybe tomorrow. I think that's best."

“where?" she asks playing with her necklace”

"That's what I need decide...Rathina you are my life. I want you to know you mean more than the world to me.."

Rathina smiles "I love you mommy"

Ava squeezes her, "I love you..more than you may know."

“I hope we will be ok” Rathina looks out the window, not wanting to think about leaving the lovely home

"We will be.." ava reassured

“mommy, tell me a story, please...”

“Once upon a time, a wise and generous king ruled. And one day, his advisor retired. So now the king had to find a replacement. There were two names for the post- Leuk and Batuk.

Leuk was lazy but Batuk was hard working as well as intelligent. The king organized a boat race. But suddenly something seemed to disturb the calm waters of the river.

Leuk said that it was some monster and returned to the shore. Batuk dived into the river and took the culprit out. It was just a coconut, which the king himself had placed there.

Batuk was chosen as the new advisor.”

 

    Rathina dreaded the uncertainty, she didnt want to move away. She wanted to stay, to be a princess and make khel, and her mother proud. She expected Ava to have the house packed up, but no, shockingly it seemed as if Ava had decided to stay, and they did, her mother bonded with Azel, and the rest of their time on Kalos was spent in peace, they were happy. Rathina had a balance, everything had worked out
