A Meeting Of Dwarves

Recommended Posts

A hand written letter is delivered to the following individuals; Hiebe Irongut, Gamle Irongut and Thoak Goldhand. As one would open the letter, they would notice that it bears the seal of the Grand Kingdom of Urguan and its text is written in large, intricate letters.

“To he whom this letter is addressed to,

The reasons for which you bear this letter are that you are one among others who have held considerable and longing doubts in the capabilities of the Grand Kingdom in recent years. Your allegiances shaken and in suspicion of the nation to which you belong, I fear our kin are slowly becoming divided to the point of disunity. What I seek therefore is to rectify these troubles and to restore an age where our people may prosper together again. For years, our ancestors have struggled and died to defend what we have spent much of our lives building. It is the very least of my wishes to preside over a Kingdom in such disarray.

It is true that we have all lost to defend this nation and build it into what it stands at today. Yet my deepest regret is that my predecessors did not succeed in retaining the full and utmost loyalty of the clans who played their part in forging the Grand Kingdom in its earliest years. What I know for certain is that we cannot once again see this nation fractured by clan allegiance. Though we may call ourselves by different names and bind ourselves to our closest of kin, we are all sons of Urguan. I refuse to believe it so that there is no chance to rectify the troubles of the past. To set aside our differences for the mutual benefit of us all.

Therefore I extend to you an invitation to attend a meeting of myself, the Lord’s Council and a group of individuals whose voices I feel need to be heard. If you are willing to attend, I would ask only that you specify a preferable time and date to which you will be available.

Until we next meet, I pray that the gods watch over you.”

Beneath the main body of text, a large signature is scrawled across the page.

“Grand King Wulfgar Grandaxe, son of Morgrim.“

*Hiebe receives a letter in his quaint homely home in a nearby city. He looks it over and nods and gathers up his gallant robe and makes his way to the capital. He sits at the meeting place and awaits the others that should arrive soon.*

*Thoak receives the letter at Kal'Garud and nods slightly after someone nearby reads it off to him. Thoak soon makes his way to the Kal'Garud Keep to pack some travel rations, and a dagger, as well as dawning on robes before making his way toward Kal'Ithrun.*

Gamle receives the letter, and sits in a comfy chair. He puts on his eyeglasses and begins to read through it.

"Ah, dis will be guud, Oi'm sure..."

He packs a small sack of things, and heads out.

Grand King Wulfgar Grandaxe, accompanied by the council of Lords greets the guests as they enter inside the meeting chamber. As the gate falls shut behind them and they take their seats, he leans forward in his throne as he begins to speak.

“Welcom' tu ye all. Ah’m glad ye 'ave chosen tu accept t'e invitation ah offered ye. Nuw tu begin' t'is meetin', obviousleh t'ere 'as been much quarrel between our kin as tu t'e part ye all play in t'e Grand Kingdom. T'is my wish tu giv' ye all ah greateh say in t'is nation's politics. As ah furst prosposed in my election speech, ah wus wishin' tu implement t'e Clan Council 'as both Onar n' Kjell envisioned. Such w'ould would beh t'e furst t'in' ah intend tu duh upon bein' crowned Grand King ov Urguan.

'owevah, t'ere is obviousleh far deepah problems t'at ah fear such an amendment will fail tu solve. T'e reason ah 'ave called ye all 'ere is t'at ah duh nawt wish tu see t'e Kingdom t'at our ancestors built becom' divoided n' fractured baeh conflict. Weh are all placed 'awn t'is world baeh Yemekar tu serve ah purpose. Ah ask now fer ye tu speak n' tell meh wut it is ye wish tu beh dealt wit'. Dependin' 'awn t'e outcom' ov t'is meetin', per'aps t'ere will beh furthah amendments t'at ah will try tu propose tu t'e council.

T'e secon' n' foinal reason ah called ye 'ere is 'awn t'e mattah ov Kal'Garud. T'e settlement 'as unfortunateleh put ah strain 'awn newcomahs tu Kal'Ithrun as our populations divoide. T'ough weh manage, ah fear weh w'ould beh far mur' prosperous iff weh w'ould all liv' be'oind t'e sam' walls. Suh ah ask ye now... Wut w'ould it take tu 'ave ye muv' peacefulleh back tu Kal'Ithrun?"

Wulfgar leans back into his throne, sighing lightly as he begins to run his stubby fingers through his braided beard, awaiting to hear what the guests have to say.

Gamle Irongut sits in one of the chairs, drumming his fingers on the table. He looks to Hiebe, and then to Thoak, a single eyebrow raised to them both.

"We 'ave spent maneh months buildin' up Kal'Garud, a massive amount ov materials, an' der's folks livin' der. Yer askin' us t' uproot da loives ov guud people, and put all ov our 'ard work be'ind us."

He sighs, his weathered face suddenly looking old.

"Wot would ye' do wit' it?"

Speaks up first

"I wuld support a Clan council firstleh. Der needs tu be maor say frum da clans dat make up dis Grand Kingdom, least der voices be silent an sume clans git moar say der udders. I wuld alsu loik dat Clan Prestige be insituted fer clans tu comete peacefully tu git moar sway within da Kingdom based on actions an donations dey du fer da Kingdom. A clan whu supports the Kingdom moar should 'ave moar say den a new clan or a dis-trusty clan. I wuld suggest all pass croimes be forgiven an give all dwarves round Anthos to come hume tu participate. This allows equality and fairness and past actions tu be forgotten as Oren and da Kingdom 'ave alsu done.

I wouldnt moind muvin back tu da Capital but I wuld still suggest da farmers be allowed tu keep farmin in Kal Gurad, myself 'ave a brudder wurkin der but udder den dat I see nae dwarves der often.

I would alsu suggest dat da Current King's Council be abolished and der positions and people be set directly under da Lords council specialized positions based on their job and background. Example da Lord Specter shuld 'ave da religious and magical guilds under neath him. Guilds shuld compete wit each udder fer spots in da kingdom but nae 'ave official support unless by the King himself.

I think we 'ave tuu many general shops in da Kingdom,  I tink de shops shuld be specialized base on tings dey sell, examples culd be bakery, smithery, and such.

Thoak exhales deeply underneath his mask as he listens to the three talk, turning his heard toward Zezimus, then to Gamle, and then to Hiebe. After adjusting himself slightly in his seat before speaking, his words drawn out, and his breathing slightly more heavier as he continues his words

"Aye, somewot 'o a pleasure tae come all tis way... tae I'trune. Ye bring up 'o tis cooncil 'o clans.. t'at was suggested long ago, an' addin' .. anot'er cooncil. I 'onestly dunnae t'ink we need anot'er cooncil unless ye, Grandaxe remove one 'o tae existin' cooncils like 'Iebe suggested fer 'oot just takes up.. more space within' tae kingdom. As fer tis conflict ye be speakin' 'boot.. t'ere be none. Tae only conflict was tae.. stupidity 'o tae previoos King an' Lords, an' t'eir brash decisions tae go.. into a war, hooeva'.. t'at is be'ind us. Tae only conflicts t'at exist 'ur petty quarrels an' arguements 'o hoo'.. tis kingdom shoold be ran.

As fer Kal'Garud, t'ere is ... nae need tae remove somethin' t'at 'as already been.. built.. from tae groond up. Ye 'ur simply be spittin'.. in 'ur general direction to t'ose.. t'at worked on tae village in t'ose times 'o war, an' t'ose residin' t'ere fer t'at village be t'eir pride.. 'oot be also good tae keep away from It'run from time tae time.. tae keep away.. from tae.. hoo' ye say.. "petty rabble" wit'in' t'ere."

Thoak nods slightly, adjusting his mask.

Wulfgar nods his head slightly, leaning forward in his throne as he begins to speak to each of the dwarves once again.

"T'en per'aps wut conflict t'ere wus 'as ended... 'owevah, ah foind t'ere tu beh nay reason tu divoide our kin loike t'is. Ye 'ave built Kal'Garud but wut ah ask is nawt t'at it is torn tu t'e ground 'er razed baeh foire. Nay... Onleh t'at it is reduced tu farmland n' 'ouses fer t'ose 'o work on it. As it currentleh stands, it acts as ah means ov spreadin' our people apart. Ar' weh nawt dwarves 'o work towards ah common cause? Weh cannot droive t'is Kingdom forward t'rough selfishness. T'e petty rabble 'o resoide in Kal'Ithrun 'er nawt, t'ey ar' our people n' t'ey need guidance frum t'ose 'o 'old t'e wisdom tu giv' it.

Anehweh 'awn t'e mattah ov our system ov council. Ah Clan Council w'ould allow t'ose 'o 'old nay Lord's positions tu at least 'ave ah small amount ov powah n' scutineh wit'in' t'e government as ah clan. Such w'ould onleh 'old seats fer clans 'ose membahship, influence n' loyalteh tu t'e Kingdom ar' ov ah suitable standard. Tu remov' t'e King's Council 'owevah w'ould beh ah rathah insignificant change as such w'ould fail tu organise labour n' jobs wit'in' t'e Kingdom. Ah certainleh duh nawt believ' t'e current Lerds ar' capable ov runnin' multiple guilds at once, alun'soide t'eir various othah dutehs. N' besoides maneh ov our guild leadahs duh ah foine job. Fimlin, Dared, Aldal n' maneh othahs ar' far mur' capable tu perform t'ese roles t'an t'e res' ov us. Such gives 'em ah means ov workin' t'eir way up n' provin' 'emselves capable, dus' it nawt?

Lastleh 'awn t'e mattah ov wut 'iebe brought up wit' ah scorin' system. T'ough ah believe ah Clan Council w'ould partialleh incorporate ah means ov clans earnin' t'eir reputation, ah simpleh fear t'ere would beh tu' much bias tu keep it guin' fairleh. Iff ye can offeh ah means ov solvin' t'is 'owevah, ah w'ould beh 'appeh tu tak' it intuh consideration."

Gamle nods, listening closely to Wulfgar's words, staring at the table. He slowly opens his mouth to speak.

"Yew speak woise words about Kal'Garud, aye. Ah will t'ink on it, 'n take a momen' t' discuss it wit' my lads 'ere, if yew dun' moind. It should be a group decision, aye."

Wulfgar nods his head to Gamle before speaking once again.

"Aye, ah 'ave nay reason tu wish ill upon ye 'er t'ose 'o resoide in Kal'Garud. Ah onleh wish tu see us all prosper. Iff ye w'ould at leas' considah movin' back tu' Kal'Ithrun, t'at w'ould beh t'e furst step tu t'e true reunification ov our people."

The Grand King then turns his attention back towards Hiebe, running his fingers through his beard as he begins to think for a moment.

"Aye... Ah duh t'ink weh need mur' discussion 'awn t'is 'owevah as ah feel t'ere beh ah lawt ov trouble in implemtin' sum'tin' t'at w'ould work fairleh n' efficientleh. Wut iff each membah ov t'e Clan Council wer' tu vote fer anothah clan tu earn ah point ov reputation each weak? Mah onleh fear 'ere is shadeh dealin's guin' 'awn... Ah qoite often feel ah lot ov 'atred frum certain clans fer often nay reason othah t'an t'eir own ill intent. Weh w'ould 'ave tu foind ah way tu prevent t'is frum 'avin' an effect 'awn votes, iff evah weh wer' tu brin' in such ah system."
