Crayfishchris 751 Share Posted March 11, 2014 3 years ago. I was in Japanese class, with a bunch of fellow students at ASIJ, Tokyo. We were receiving a worksheet, I believe. It's been so long since I touched that subject that I find it hard to remember. When the tremors started, we were on the third floor of the middle school building. Immediately, we all got under our desks, with a few comments from my fellow classmates attempting to keep the light mood. It was my first big earthquake since I had moved there, and I have to admit I was a bit excited. That excitement turned into worry and fear when I discovered how much the extent of the damage was. I couldn't phone home. I couldn't do anything but sit and wait as we heard of the six-foot tall waves in the school pool, and everyone attempted to sleep on the cramped twelve hour bus ride home (which normally took 30-40 minutes). Walking tiredly home, I hugged my family when I saw them, and was told of how extensive the damage was up in Sendai and the northern cities. It was like nothing I could have ever imagined. Total destruction. This is something we cannot ever forget, everyone. Japan still suffers in the places that were more hit by the earthquake and following tsunami. Whole villages wiped off the map, many people still unaccounted for. Apologies if I dampen your mood on this fine March day, but I felt like this needed to be said. EmeraldStag 165 Share Posted March 11, 2014 When it happened, my Japanese class and club at my highschool did a fundraiser; I don't recall how much we raised, I just know that we did what we could at the time. Our club president was really worried about the family she stayed with there, can't recall the word for it, though thankfully they were alright she had said.
