In the 4.0 video it shows that you can role play while you craft.  I think that is great.  In an effort to curb combat / fighting rp though, could it be coded in such a way to automatically fail and give you the components back if you engage in combat during the crafting?

Actually, this seems like a pretty good idea.

 

My only question would be: as the crafting is designed to be so that you can walk away from crafting and roleplay while you craft, why are we making a distinction between roleplay and pvp (other than the reasons stated above)?

Honestly, because everyone talks while they do things, but I doubt you could craft while you swing a sword.  If they could make it to where you couldn't rp pvp while you craft I would be all for that too, but I don't see how that is possible (plus the reason stated above).

I'm inclined to think that this would just add more drama. Someone just has to be making iron armour (which seems to take forever) and then minutes before it finishes they come up against a couple people, they then get into a fight and then PvP is called. The person who is crafting the armour would be more inclined to want to emote fight, because of the time he has already waited, but the other insists on PvP and it gets defaulted. That situation can very well, and most likely will, happen. I do like the idea but if it cannot be done for both emote fighting and mechanic fighting, then I cannot support it.

Doing it for both emote fighting and PVP would be impossible without stopping people from emoting crafting, which is one of the main pros of letting people use chat while crafting. And you'd have to make it so that hitting mobs wouldn't count(so that you can fight back against random mobs instead of just dying) and that getting hit wouldn't count(in case someone punches you once randomly).

Overall I don't think it's worth the work involved in making it, and it'd annoy people that didn't know about it and accidentally cancelled their crafting.
