Sorry about the five parts

This is a guide for Staff and Peasants so they can debate and talk about possible things being restricted and whether it should become part of donor perks etc.

So you have by now, I hope if you are interested seen the 4.0 Oren drawbridge design. I helped Senda in the technical process, by reassuring him his crazy plans were possible!

I was first introduced to the concept of Craftbook Areas by the old Brom’krah gate which for use of a better word confused me for some time… until I knocked down the wall to look at the sign and see this weird sign with [Area] on it. So after reading a complicated wiki and outdated video on YouTube I brainstormed Ideas. Happy to say with 4.0 designs coming along on a private build server I play on the owner (Emenzi praise him!)  put Craftbook on the server. After some time I made a functioning gate which opened closed and had a bar which could be lowered, as well as this it worked fine with an Iron Gate right next to it.

Soon after I showed Senda the base mechanics and said it was possible. I then attempted a stage by stage smooth transition of a few block with Redstone and it worked. I then showed it to Senda and all he needed to do was build a big fancy drawbridge and alter it stage by stage.

Now if that confused you don’t worry ;) uncle Ricky is here to help!

Stage one: Know what you want!

Right so you want a gate or something like that, you need to know what the entire space is that your gate will cover.3965e913dbad2a6b9bdb03dbca230802.png

So here is an example of my planned simple gate which will have just two areas, open and closed. 000f33877cb19ec4198db7dc9dd1a8ae.pngSo you can set the first position in that corner but now where is the max the open gate will go? c8fe6eb15c95f5d3e006f26ed4c29d0e.png

It is in that corner where the gate will be when open. You can see why in more complex builds it becomes a problem and you include excess block. This is a problem with the normal Area because is a block is removed from that gate when saved as an area it will be replaced when open and closed again. So you need to use a Craftbook ‘Savearea’ which I will explain later.

As well don’t worry about that block for second position you have not saved anything yet and can remove it and it is not in the area.

Stage 2: saving the areas

You can just save the area and the top line on the sign will be your name. This means you cannot have two areas named 1 and restricts your builds and is just a bit messy. (I don’t like it)

This is the happy alternative to this, the –n is a namespace, the name of the namespace is Derp, then the area comes under the namespace. Think of it as a file and the areas are all the documents inside. (It keeps things nice tidy and easy)

So we save area 1 as the closed gate and area 2 as the open one. You do not have to do anthing in the middle, all you have to do is save area 1(or 5003934etc) knock down and build an open gate and save as area 2. No resetting the area or silly things like that!

Stage 3: The sign

The sign will have the namespace on the top line (do not put unnecessary spaces on the top line afterwards that is a common problem with people running into problems). Second line is like a gate or hidden switch the actual Craftbook command in square brackets.

Here I should mention Craftbook ‘SaveArea’ which can also go on the second line instead of ‘Area’.

As said above this part of craftbook allows duping (unless in protected region) so I imagine GM’s will ban normal areas sooner or later or restrict them. But this guide is for them as much as it is for the people. This allows areas to be edited so in areas where other blocks are included they can be edited (admittedly twice+ in some cases;().

Then the third and fourth lines are the areas. You can see for a four stage drawbridge your gonna need a few signs! 589ade26f755f66b7a04e5eae2bc0f04.png

Stage 4: Redstone Basic

Also at this simple level I have set up Redstone to it so a simple lever with the sign hidden or even a daylight sensor (you can see where this is going). Here I have set it up that while power is applied and it’s daytime the gate is open. Then when the power goes at night it will close. You can easily switch this by right clicking the sign.

Stage 5: Multi-stage Redstone

a6e0db8a3875fa4fa21152f2c59612ee.png

Now this may look scary but it is basically the power going to each sign making it look like the ice on the left is opening stage by stage.

The repeaters are set to the slowest delay and there are two after each just so when the signs are activated it is cinematic and not too fast to notice.

The third and fourth lines of each sign going bottom to top will look like this. 4-1   3-2  2-3  1-4. Now if you do not get this is basically the gate starting closed at 4 then opening at it goes through to 1. Then at night when power is stopped it starts at the first sign switching back to 1 (no change) then to 2 all the way back to 4 ready to start the cycle again the next day.

Here is a physical example GIF of me setting the time to night and watching the gate close. http://gyazo.com/4cf2453e370a54496a2c6273ddfbf805

Ricky got it right. Good man with family values.

I'd love to see more craftbook area gates in the world.

No it would require a modreq as long as it is on the savearea setting it would cause no problems to staff really, no more than the rest of craftbook (possibley if alot of people had gates that closed at night)

But after modreq is done and areas set it is all up to the player!

Yeah, players aren't given craftbook areas as they are extremely easy to dupe with. Shouldn't be a problem if a GM has two brain cells and approves making one for you, I made one for the Highelves in Anthos.

Was hoping that had changed, craftbook areas are amazing and very underused.
