Bardel's Grand Merchant Election Speech

Bardel emerges from the Alchemist District. Soot and stone dust plague his face. The white Dwarf moves to the same the place as before. Just as everybody else finishes and steps down. He steps up and begins his speech.

"Many of you do not know me, not as well as my competition. Aye, I am up against some great Dwarves and I do not blame ye for voting for them. But now is the time to think about what you are doing and vote for the right person. I am going to be blunt and straight up with ye all. As lying and beating around the bush has got us nowhere recently. These other Dwarves will not serve you all in the best way possible as Grand Merchant. They are warriors. Fighters. Not tradesmen and negotiators.

Because they can use an Axe does not mean they can use a quill.

The quill is a weapon for Dwarves like I, your Ogradhad's Alchemist.

I do not plan to prove to you my skills and how Great a Grand Merchant I shall be if I get elected. I plan on being a Great Grand Merchant. You have already seen what I can do, the intelligent person I am. Ogradhad's Alchemist would not be a lesser Dwarf. Why should the person you are voting for have to prove himself to you? He should already be worthy of the title.

Look around you. Where is all the trade, the commerce? As Dwarves this should be our centre point. People should flock from nations around to buy our Stone and metal.

But do they? No. In fact many people don't even know how to get to Kal'Arkon.

To me this is shameful.

Like my competitors I also strive to bring back the wealth and the glory of our nation. Not through war, but through trade. But unlike the others I will not only promise this. I will do this. I will construct a great trading platform with many stands, shops and auction houses. Either within or outside the City.

There we will sell all manor of things. From Lumber and Stone; to Diamonds and Obsidian.

Every Guild will produce goods that will be sold and bartered on this platform.

My Brothers, Sisters, Allies and Enemies.

Today I promise to you that if you vote for me to be Grand Merchant I will not just shadow the old Grand Merchant Kwint; But better him!"

Bardel steps back, breathing heavily after giving the emotional speech. He waves once more as the crowd claps before turning and disappearing back into the dark Alchemist District.

"Better me eh?" Kwint shakes his head, crossing Bardel off his list of friends. "Guud speech t'ough."
