Please, please, forgive me.

But I won't be home again.

Catherine de Savoie nee Fournier laid back in her bed where she had stayed immobilized for years. Though slowly, she was getting weaker as the lingering monk magic that kept her alive yet comatose began to fade. This was her final chance at living... even though to be fair, she did not wish to.

Her lover whom she had sacrificed herself for had never visited her bedside... and she knew- she had heard the voices around her. The first being the one who returned her home when she merely laid in the grass near the Cloud Temple, a person she had known when she was still a child. The nun known as Copy sat beside her and watched over her, reading to her, and attempting to wake her gently, to no avail...receiving no answer to her words except for a slight twitch of the sleeping beauty's hand. The next was another childhood friend who used to watch over her and keep her safe, and treated her like a sister. But soon, they too had to leave, them being replaced with her sister Jean who had changed her out of her bloodstained dress that she had laid in for three Saint's days.

And as the former girl, now woman, took another labored breath, images washed over her mind. Of a large and intimidating ship navigating through stormy waters, eventually making port in Oren from Relouria. Of her growing up in Aldersberg and spending time with her family, along with writing poetry. Of her making flower crowns with her best friend Valulaei, whom she called a 'flipflop ear' due to the fact she was a wood elf. Of her meeting her future husband, and him addressing her as "Lady Catherine", though they were both children.

Of him taking her hand as he led her through a hidden hallway beneath Aldersberg,

Of her speaking up to her brother Augustus that she wanted him to be her suitor.

Of them getting married...and how happy she was to be in his company.

Of raising her child, Lucien II, before he left at the young age of six to learn.

For a brief moment, she forced another smile like she had right before she died, not wanting for anyone to see her frowning.

She took one last breath. And before eternal darkness creeped over her thoughts, one last thought came through.

"Thank you."
"I'm sorry I survived."

Even though I'm the sacrifice,

You won't try for me, not now.

Though I died to know you love me,

I'm all alone.

"Hmm.. I wonder if they'll blame us again.." Alexei grumbles as he gets word of her death, returning to his training at the perch.

(( Not sure if I'd know of this so just correct me if I wouldn't.))

Jean would discover the body of Catherine upon one of her visits, a large basket in one hand. Her pleasant humming would halt as she entered her sister's room, eyes fixated on the now lifeless young woman.

Her brow would furrow slightly, lips pursing as she stifles a small sob.  Setting down the basket, Jean would flee the room, returning to her own home to take comfort from her family and husband. She'd later send a bird to each member of the Fournier family, and then another to Jan de Savoie, briefly noting him of his wife's death.

A while after her death, the nun known as Copy enters Catherine's room to discover her recently deceased body. She walks over to her, at first not noticing that she has stopped drawing breath, and callin out her name, "Catherine, I have returned once again to read to you. Would you prefer any kind of story?" The nun asks, before finally seeing the ashen look that all dead people have, despite the smile on her face. Copy freezes, and falls to her knees beside the bed, checking her pulse quickly to find her heart no longer beating. Tears spring to her eyes that never open, as she goes to place her forehead against her lady's stomach, "Oh... Very well my lady... I... I shall let you rest than." The nun says, sobbing silently. She would later leave to inform her family of the loss of her most treasured child, Catherine.
