A Thesis on the corruption of Men

Scribed by Acolyte Vladimir Mosin Yuri

The idea of a man so pious he cannot be corrupted is a storybook fantasy. In fact, all men are susceptible to the sins we safeguard against, and the evils of darker entities. Such is the call for men to give in that it is found irresistible to some of the strongest and devout figures. Be he the Knight, the Pauper. Prince or Bishop, all feel the tug of Sin and Corruption pulling on their soul and straining their moral fiber.

One such example is Horen V, while Emperor he not only fell to Corruption but embraced it while his father reigned justly. Reports of barbaric acts such as starving the Empress-mother alive, nailing prisoners to walls, and burning men for sports exist. But as well, Horen fell to Lust among his Wrath. But not simple Lust for women, but that of another man. Such a depraved act is unspeakable and if such is to be believed one asks what caused him to falter?

The answer is that men are, inherently, prone to corruption. Ibless and his dark forces have eroded Man over centuries to fall easily to the Darkness and from His light. This Acolyte has searched long and found that men are prone to evil because it is taught to them by others, who in turn were taught such things. Ibless first taught evil to Men after so many splits caused Mankind to deflate and stagnate. This led to men openly embracing corruption and surrendering to Evil.

We can view High Pontiff Owyn I, as a testament to corrupting. Commonly known as Owyn the Wicked, Corrupt, and a plethora of other vile names, he was granted such power never before seen by a man of his station and fell in love with it. He embraced Ibless and danced with him as he assisted in toppling the Horen Dynasty. Ibless helped to grow the seed of corruption within him and as such, Owyn declared himself a King and forsook all he stood for as High Pontiff. He broke the Faith and used it to empower himself at the cost of Humanity, helping usher in the single darkest period in the history of mankind.

As well, the forefather of the Half-Elven Adunians, Harren courted Ibless when he mixed his blood openly to form a race better than Man, or Elves respectively. It was Harren, a traitor to his kin, who embraced the corrupt seeds in his soul and fostered their growth. We can see the seeds are still there, in that the Adunians throughout history constantly rebelled to see themselves above pure blooded Humans, even going as far as to conspiring with Dwarves in Anthos. When Ibless later betrayed the Adunians, we can see what would happen to any who court Ibless. There is no salvation there, but doom and death.

That said, there is no excuse for corruption as Man knows that the Creator seeks to help, and there is scripture warning of Corruption. He must remain adamant in his Faith and goodness so that Ibless might not pull upon Man's strings any further than he has. We live not in a word of good and morality, but rather one of sin and inherent evil which we must resist, lest we be no better than figures such as Harren the Kinslayer, Horen V, or Owyn I. Men tasked with responsibility who cast their lot with evil so they might live in corruption and strengthen Ibless.
