Definitions

 

What is roleplaying?: Roleplaying is the act of taking on the identity of a character, and acting out his or her actions in fictional setting. When one roleplays, they must attempt to act out the personality of their character, and be aware of what their characters does or doesn't know.

 

What is metagaming?: Metagaming is the use of information that you have acquired outside the fictional setting in character to gain some sort of advantage. For example, a player reads in an OOC forum post where great treasure is located, and then uses that information to get that treasure.

 

What is powergaming?: Powergaming occurs in roleplay when a participant roleplays actions that are either unreasonable or don’t give the other side a chance to respond. For example, a guard is attempting to apprehend a thief. The thief is ran into a corner and is forced to confront the guard. The thief the emotes that he lunges at the guard with his knife, piercing the guard’s armor and lodging the knife in the guard’s heart.

Biography: Aethalin was born in Asulon in the High Elven city of Haelun’or where his mother was an alchemist and his father an enchanter. He was a bright and curious child who took to learning about the world through books and had his father hire a sellsword to train Aethalin to more competent with a sword. His life had changed abruptly when he discovered a secret cellar underneath his house. A horrendous stench of death greeted him with dead bodies laying about the floor and blood covering the walls. A figure was crouching in the corner, laughing as it looked at the body in front of it. Aethalin realized it was his father. When Aethalin revealed his presence, his father abruptly turned to face him, drew a knife, and advanced on Aethalin. Seeking to defend himself, he picked up a sword from one of the corpses, and stabbed his own father. On his body he found his father journal, half of which seemed to be completely reasonable writing, and the other half the scribbles of a madman. Aethalin decided to keep the journal for no other reason than to remember the better parts of his father.

    After the incident, Aethalin and his mother joined the migratory wave that after many decades lead Aethalin to Vailor. During his wanderings with his mother he took up his father's craft and helped his mother with enchanting services. Though soon after landing in Athera, his mother died during the genocide instigated by Phaedrus Lle’hileia, which has left Aethalin distrustful the Mali’ame. As such he continued his journey alone to Vailor.

Personality Traits: Aethalin is driven, knowledgeable, proud, patient, and gregarious.

Ambitions:

• Expand his enchanting and alchemical knowledge and establish his own store.

• To achieve some sort of noble social standing.

Strengths/Talents:

• Perceptive

• Basic understanding of alchemy and enchanting.

• Trained in the basics of sword fighting.

Weaknesses/Inabilities:

• Incompetent with a bow.

• Stubborn in his opinions unless they come from one who is clearly wiser and older.

• Deeply distrusts wood elves.

Appearance: Aethalin is about 6 and ½ feet tall, with long platinum hair and bright blue eyes. Aethalin weighs about 158 pounds and he is also of pure Mali’aheral blood.
