The Mali'ame youths gathered around the ancient elf, the campfire between them reflecting it's orange whips in their wide eyes. The old elf, grandfather to one of the younglings, sat proud on a large root protruding from the damp ground. He was guiding these young boys on their first Hunt, one they would cherish forever. The day had been a successful one, the young ones had conducted the hunt with reverence and mercy, each arrow instantly killing it's target.

Now, they deserved some rest and a story.

"Now, you see children, the world did not always have four seasons. When nature itself was still young, the Aspects often competed with one another, and could not decide how to measure a year...

Once, long ago, Cernunnos brought a mighty blizzard into the world, his aim to make it easier to follow the footprints of animals. The predators rejoiced, for they could track their prey into their burrows, where they had gone into hibernation, and could not detect the danger that followed them. The animal population dropped, as prey was massacred in its sleep, and predators began fighting among themselves for what was left.

Cerridwen was furious. She came upon Cernunnos in a rage, scolding him for his greed. She snatched his bow from him, and returned to her dwelling. With his weapon taken from him, Cernunnos could not whittle the population down further. However, as the animals slept, their numbers did not grow.

So Cerridwen lifted the bow of Cernunnos, and strung it eight more times, turning nature's deadliest bow into a harp. She then grabbed the stormy clouds and pulled them out of the sky, letting the sun shine upon the earth once more. She then sat against an Eldar tree, leaning the harp against it's trunk, and began to strum.

The sound was divine, both loud and yet a whisper, with the strength of a chorus and yet the emotion of a lone instrument. The animals awoke, and Spring officially began."

"Wait, so this was the first Spring?"

"Yes, now quiet, let me finish the sto-"

"So, Cernunnos does this every year, and Cerridwen never expects it? And she has to wake up the animals every time?"

"Er. Yes, I suppose so."

"Wait, so why doesn-"

"Alright, time to sleep, good night young ones."
