Laethis peered out through the window of his new home, looking past the vast woodland expanse to the ocean beyond. Yet he rested with unease, knowing that he could only last here so long. The Golden Owl likely suspected his whereabouts, and even if they did not, they would find him eventually. A more permanent solution would be needed, but what?

The elf laid quietly in solitude for some time, toying with thought after thought. What could replace that which had defined his entire life? The loss of what he’d given his life to. Yet the idea would come, and so he wrote three letters of his dying nation, one to a man, and two to elves. Laethis sent them with the highest of hopes, for failure was no option.

The Golden Owl had taken everything, so he must create anew.

---

The first meeting had been successful, and thus one elf had joined him in his cause. Yet one was not enough for this endeavor. He rose from his bed, jolted by the knocks of a returning courier. His eyes quickly trailed over the delivered missive, nodding promptly to himself.

But a few moments later, donning his cane and coat, the elf departed, trailed by a dark elven figure who’d rested beside him. Quickly darting down the path, the elf headed for the docks so he might sail to a brighter future.

---

The first blood had been shed to make his dream a reality. It was not spilt in conflict over ideology or his freedom; it was merely the blood of a pesky interloper. Yet blood had been shed all the same, various wounds upon the figure dealt by the three who had met.

The figure would have no significance in the formation of their haven. In truth, the dead man would never have known that he interrupted a sensitive conversation, or the anxiety his intrusion might cause.

Yet Laethis would not forget. And now he had the map, so it was time to find the final pair.

---

Laethis trudged up the path to their home, bags set under his eyes indicating the weariness due to his travels. He peered down at his map, emitting a quiet sigh. This is the place.

He’d fold the map, slipping it into a pocket within his coat, before finally closing the distance. He’d knock on the door, and it would open for him after a short exchange. As the conversation drew on, he slowly grew more confident, ending with a small smile.

Yes, he thought. His dream would be a reality.
