The Maheral’s Duty. Section 6: Declination

*The Maheral's address to the citizenry*

Politics. I abhor the word politics and yet it is all mali’aheral are capable of these days. A letter was given to me this last elven seed and it is time for me to unveil my suspicions and address our citizens.

Firstly, it is my duty as Maheral, the one chosen to preserve the Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya as a beacon of purity and morality to mediate the council. I shall not be scapegoated by the council for their lack of inward attention in order to motivate or further any political scheme. If they cannot manage to handle elections then the citizenry should be looking into new members of this council. This is the lesser part of my announcement and I fear it only grows direr from here.

I have received a physical letter, perhaps seen to some as gossip but to me it a call for action. Entailed in this letter is a notion that Daayara Izalith is a frost witch who recently married Laethis Izalith. What is frightening is that before Mr.Izalith’s long absence he was almost killed by a frost witch, and I later threatened by another. A handful of arguments and debates were held between me and Mr. Izalith regarding these threats and attempts on mali'aheral lives. With our lack of a guard at the time, most of our soldiers being demoralized by Mr. Izalith’s personal regime, I opted to enlist the service of the Marked Men who are professionals on all things frost-witch. However Mr.Izalith coined vague threats against me for doing so and oddly seemed to be against seeking out even a single impurity within the walls.

With his absence taking place soon after this I was wary of continuing the investigation but now I see the truth. When I visited Mr.Izalith while he lay on his bed, recovering from the assassination attempt from a frost witch that nearly claimed his life the only other present was none other than Daayara who I have only seen in the company of Mr.Izalith, or lack of seeing during the time of his absence.  If I had thought Mr. Izalith was not only protecting an impure frost witch but also consorting with one I would have taken more drastic measures upon my initial investigation. Now, with their new marriage, I feel the only option is to allow the citizenry to deal with this blight and I call out the tilruir’tir to help conduct the trial. As Maheral I take precedent in choosing the Parir’tiran when conducting a trial.

The purity trials of Laethis and Daayara Izalith will be held to investigate the threats against our culture and traditions. The selected Parir’tiran are Mordew or one selected by Mordew, Orsino and Ikur Seregon. The two mali in question should proceed to turn themselves in. Any attempt to flee from the Sillumir, or an attempt to further harm any mali’aheral within these silver walls will be met with the most unfortunate outcomes on your behalf. As stated by law I have decided that until the mali are proven either guilty or innocent Laethis Izalith is hereby put on probation from his council duties. I shall instead proceed immediately with the challenges against both the tilruir’indor and tilruir’lliran. This is not the time of Kalenz Uradir. We are no other race but mali'aheral and thus I expect you all, even the accused, to handle yourselves in the way Larihei intended. Do not forsake the precious blessing bestowed upon you. We may be without the golden pools but we are not without morality.

It is not too late to return to purity. The first step is admittance. For the sake of Larihei, her children, the Maehr’sae Hilyun’ehya and every mali’aheral within these blessed walls I call upon every citizen, not out of fear but mutual understanding, that violence will not solve this. We will talk, debate and re-educate those who cannot do so themselves.

Irhamir lets out a slight sigh,

"The Golden Owls throw accusations around rapidly. Only in the last two days they brought in a rock with the purpose of trying to provide evidence to Yuln being a frost witch," His fingers tap against the side of his suit, the sound of a liquid sloshing about can be heard. "It is typically a bad idea to have two of the Parir'tiran from the same group. This is almost a certain choice for what they wish of Laethis. And a feud between Laethis and Taeleh appears to take place."

"Let me be clear. I selected three mali'aheral out of a small pool of mali'aheral I saw fit to take on the daunting task of a purity trial. I do not care of what they wish or what feud is had. Mr. and Mrs. Izalith will be questioned regardless. Due to the current relations between Taeleh and the council he is replaced by Orsino."
