A Call To The Kaedreni

5th of Sun’s Smile, 1543

 

It is a humid, yet slow day in the lands of Kaedrin. Though the sky is largely clear, and cloud in it seems to bear a great deal of weight, a burden which seems to be upon the many peasants seen toiling on the vast fields of their lords.

 

 

The horizon soon sees many a man on horseback, which initially seems like nothing more than a noble party returning from the hunt. Banners are held high above them, bearing the green and gold colours of Lorraine. As time passes though, the entirety of the hills gain an outline, made of many adorned figures. Intimidated, the peasants would quietly move from their activities for their homes, only the see the men pour down from the tops of the hills and flow into the valley, heading directly for their small village. Like an ocean charging at the shore, the people feared that they now were to suffer the pains of war.

 

Fear gripped these poor folk as some of the men finally passing the first of the homes, but their pace now far slower, calling to them. Out of one part fear, and another curiosity, they remain on either side of the streets, looking up to the men with wide and wild eyes. The words of the men soon became clear, relaying news of their status now as Lorraine’s citizens.

 

Few understood what this meant, but soon come to love what meaning the men their gave to it. Linens, wool, bread and all sorts of bounties were bestowed upon the hard pressed citizens, the men declaring a new golden age of these people. They revelled in the sudden and newfound prosperity founded by these men, as they read allowed the declaration of His Imperial Majesty, John Frederick Horen I.

 

With this, the lords of the land would also receive a letter from the newly appointed Archduke Augustus d’Amaury, reading as follows;

 

“Dearest Kaedreni Lord,

 

As I am sure you have been informed, the Commonwealth of Kaedrin and Duchy of Lorraine are now to form the single Archduchy of Lorraine. Despite this, I believe it is necessary that I personally send this to you, so you understand my administration will be both responsive and responsible.

 

With no disrespect to you, it is common knowledge now that Kaedrin has seen better days. As opportunity has seemingly dried up, I propose a resurgence of the east that I am sure you most certainly will enjoy, offering all I can in the way of supplies and men to reinforce the East and make it not only a gem of the empire, but the firstmost considered lands when the question is raised on the most productive and loyal of the Empire’s holds.

 

I will waste no time and pull no punches in seeing this investment made in your lands, and as a sign of good faith, expect reduced taxes for yourselves that you may carry onto your people. Should you need me at any point, seek me, and I will make myself available to you."
