A Humble Request

A plainly written letter would find its way from Ard Ghorrock to the Imperial Palace of Oren, an owl on the wax seal. It reads as follows:

To the Court of His Imperial Majesty, John II,

For years now, the disappearance of my grandfather, Publius Bracchus, has seen no interest from the Imperial Court. With the inquiry of the house de Ruyter completely ignored, and seemingly no interest in getting to the bottom of where he may be by the Court, I have had to take liberty to search for clues. What information I have found myself upon is both horrid and revealing of the current state of his immediate and distant family.

It is apparent that the last place Publius has been seen was within the walls of the Imperial Palace in Felsen, following his assault of Rocco Romstun at the funeral of our late Emperor, John I, over his unreserved disrespect of him. More disturbing than that though, is what I hear of his death, something that the very man he assaulted in defence of our late Emperor’s honour has revealed boastfully to many;

That it was carried out by drowning him in milk and pouring honey upon his corpse, in mockery of his poverty despite service on several Privy Councils.

I find it mind boggling that the Crown has not dispelled these rumours or sought to find Publius Bracchus if otherwise is true. If the case is that he was executed, it is my most simple request that we be given the body. My relatives have suffered extreme persecution, and we now wish to give him what God’s teachings ask for; a burial, so his soul may rest.

In our hearts we find no room for more than grief, and we pray that the request is not treated maliciously.

In hope,

-Lepidus Cuman

The letter is intercepted as all letters to the Emperor are by the Chancery and handed to Lord Rothesay.

A reply is sent.

"Greetings to whom these letters reach, Sir you speak as if the Imperial Court is responsible and has to search for you grandfather. I shall inform you that is not the case the Court is not a agency for missing persons. Especially for someone like your grandfather who has vanished many times before only to come back later.

Furthermore the Court cannot deny rumors that they have not heard, this is the first time I have read or heard of such. But as a favor to a old friend I shall be searching for your grandfathers body, and if I find it I shall return it to his family, that is the least I can do for a old friend.

Regards"

Lepidus is thoroughly dissatisfied with the response, and prays that this is only the first of many things said on the issue. He continues looking for answers.
