Yes, IMHO, everyone should be allowed to use basic tools.

I mean, in real life, even the least skilled worker could mine all day long with a pickax without much training and still get a reasonable degree of success.

If you assign the skill points at the start, doing away with the leveling part, the whole issue of grinding goes away while leaving the benefits of skills. Unless having to spend months not RPing on an RP server is considered a benefit?

Well if that happened, what would happen if you made a bad choice and want to change it? To keep the rp going you can't change the skill sets... unless...hmmm

What if you did the whole assign the skill thing, but still have the option to change it through the xp system? Yes... but of course you couldn't have the skill maxed out. Mabye something like 125 point to assign then you do the rest as you see fit?

Yeah, instead of making us need to level up to be able to use each type of tool, you should have benefits or something like that. Mabye an increase in chance of getting a double, or some super move that you get over the same amount of time it takes to recharge a soul stone.

I dont see why we can't just have a oblivion type skill system, where you pick 1/2 master skills (100), 3/4 Artisan skills(50-75), 5 Journeyman skills(25) and the rest at a "meh" level(10? to allow you to use stone of every tool.)

At least then, you could put skills into what your character LIKES doing, rather than what you need to be self-sufficient or the most effective.

Less Grinding = More RP

Win/Win, right?

Assign skills to start with without leveling? Basically what I've been saying for ages, but put in an infinitely better way.

Not sure if anyone suggested this but, get rid of the cap if it's going to be so hard to level skills. Deleveling just so you can get another skill will probably be one of the scariest things to do ever, "I have gotten 93k Xp to level up once...I need a few more levels in another skill but I NEED another skill leveled up and I'm at the cap..." Think about that situation, players can't go around using /setlevel. But maybe if you would keep the cap, make it to where you keep ALL xp you gain at all so you can actually use /setlevel to bring back up another skill when you need it. Of course, not past the cap. This would make A LOT less angry players I believe.
