Little bit of embellishment on the story part, of course. If I hadn't spent the last 4 days writing a pitch for Howard Rosenman's visit to my college this weekend, might have written more... but I think that it is a sufficiently sized wall of text.

ARRHHHHHH!!

I spent over an hour typing up my comment! Then I clicked submit, and what happened?? It wiped it! I don't know why, or what happened. It just went blank. Time to rewrite, I guess...

Edit: Good news, I found that I'd copy-pasted the first half of my message earlier this evening. Guess that's that half that I don't need to rewrite!

The same thing happened to my and Rio. It is a very annoying bug.

Ok. This doesn't seem to want to post, no matter what I do, so I'll post the message I would have posted on there. If someone could upload it onto Planet Minecraft with appropriate credit, I'd be grateful.

There aren't many Minecraft roleplaying servers, and I find Lord of the Craft to be by far my favourite. I haven't been playing for very long, but I find it to be very enjoyable. These are some of the reasons why:

Application/Forums

Yes, new players, the application may be long and complicated. It's not impossible to fill out by any means, and I sespect that it was made particularly long just to make it harder to apply. That way the wheat is separated from the chafe, and only people committed enough to type up that huge message will be allowed on. This is a good thing. When applying, the mods can read the application to get a good overview of your personality. If you are the type of person who will fit in on the server (ie someone who enjoys roleplaying for the sake of roleplaying, will not destroy the experience for other players and will immerse themselves fully in the beautiful world created by the players), then you will bewelcomed onto a server with other people like you, who enjoy playing and roleplaying, and a server free from griefers, spammers, and people who just don't want to roleplay. If you're one of the latter group, then I'm afraid that you're not really going to enjoy this server. Learn to enjoy roleplaying, or choose a different server. There's plenty out there that you'll find more interesting than this one if you don't want to roleplay.

A particular emphasis is placed on your character's background. This is also a good thing. I wrote six paragraphs for mine, although this is much more than necessary (a single, albeit lengthy, paragraph will normally suffice), it allowed me to make a much more developed character who I can now roleplay much more effectively.

Of course, the existence of a specialised forum is also nice in itself. With sections for nearly every possible subject, and focussed on (as you might expect) Minecraft and roleplaying in particular, it is the forum that I decided to do my community playthrough of Lone Wolf on. The playthrough can be found here. [/shameless self advertisement] Anyway, the fact that I chose to do it on this forum (and believe me, this is by no means the only, or even the best, pure roleplaying forum I know of) shows how much faith I had in the community to join in with the roleplaying.

Mods

Well, I think that the other posts have got it covered, more or less. In my experience, though I have had a few annoyances in the past (most notably with them refusing to change my soulstone's home city, which I wanted for roleplaying reasons), on the whole they have been extremely forgiving. They've refunded money that I've lost due to bugs from both the server and vanilla Minecraft, which I really hadn't expected, to be honest. I've also seen them actually interacting with the community, rather than sitting there 'just' moderating.

They are also very fast. When you consider how many requests they must get, and that more are coming in 24/7, it's amazing that I've never had to wait more than half an hour (and the only one that came close to passing that mark was only because I left the game before they got to my request, so they had to wait for me to get back on!)

Gameplay

Now in my opinion, this is a bit hit and miss. Some features (such as houses, towns, mines, building rules, and roleplaying rules) are spot on, while a few (the skill system in particular) I find less enjoyable. However, these still have important purposes that could not be fulfilled in any easier way, such as slowing character development (preventing diamond picks within a week, for instance). The skill system does also produce a great sense of achievement when you finally complete a goal you've been working towards. I remember how much I celebrated when I finally reached level 30 in Mining, so I could use an iron pick. I can only imagine how I will feel at level 50, for diamonds!

The other great thing is the economy. Many servers have a simple economy that can only be obtained in one or two ways. How do you get gold ingots? Mine them, or get someone to pay you for something. How do you get Deniers in Millenaire? Sell stuff to the villagers. In LotC? Hmm. You can kill monsters for a quick early amount of cash. Or you might join a town guard for more reliable wages. But what if you don't like fighting? Never fear. Maybe mining is more for you? Spend a couple of days getting your mining to level 30, borrow some money, buy an iron pick and a mining permit, and away you go mining iron to sell! Or you could farm, or trade as a travelling merchant, or set up a shop, or build new houses, maybe even a city, or...you get the idea. Basically, the economy's very well designed and set up.

The World

But what's a roleplaying server, no matter how good the gameplay is, if the world is awful and boring? Fortunately, LotC isn't like that. It's certainly not boring, it doesn't stay the same long enough! Every day, there's something new to explore in my town, whether it's an archery range, a market, or just new housing. And the world does look good. You can see for yourself, you don't need to register to look around the server (just to place and destroy blocks in it). The cities could be further apart, of course. Nearly everyone agrees on that, so the mods are planning to make a new map, move the old cities into it, but further apart, and incidentally make use of the new generator as we do so.. This shows not only that my only worry with the world is solved, but that the mods listen to the community. (As if I hadn't already made that clear enough!)

People/Community

Speaking of which, the community in itself is brilliant. I've played several servers now, and can safely say that I haven't seen any which are more helpful and enjoyable than this one. It doesn't matter what question I ask, or advice I ask for, within a few seconds I will receive an answer. Generally two or three, all saying the same thing, as people rush to give advice first! Whether conversing with a fellow dwarf in IC (In Character) chat, joining in the random subject of the moment in OOC (out of character) chat, or even giving far more thought out posts on the forums, I have been impressed by the way the community responds. I don't think I have seen a single 'lolz NOOB!!!!!!' or similar on this server yet, except being used sarcastically as I did then. Clearly this shows the maturity of the members, who are generally incredibly helpful and kind. I owe my position in an excellent guild with a house of my own building, and access to a guild mine, to the surprise offer by Tesawa to ask if I could join the guild when I applied for a mining job.

This is, basically, a great world with a great community. I try to be honest, and would not be being honest if I claimed that this was 'the ultimate Minecraft server'. Nor would you believe me, and quite rightly so. However, this is certainly the best server I've come across! It's not just me who thinks so, either, don't forget that. It's me, a friend who hates writing yet wrote out the application in full to get it, all the commentators below me (and soon to be above me too, no doubt), and the 200 odd players online at any given time, not to mention those who can't get on for whatever reason. So if you're a roleplayer, and like pretending to be a fantasy creature, or have ever enjoyed a game of Dungeons and Dragons, or reread an adventure gamebook to try out another route, and have wished that these things were more available in this digitalised world, then join us at Lord of the Craft! See you there.

Obviously the formatting would have to be redone if it were to look its best.

My in game name is pi4t, the same as my Planet Minecraft account name.

Unless you mean my character's name, in which case, my IGN is Binlor.
