Heff 2460 Share Posted August 16, 2016 The Barony of Vsenk Established 1570, 19th of Horen’s Welcome, by Holy Orenian Emperor John III The Baron’s Ostrog, called Venstad, watching over the domain. The Township of Vsenk _______________________________________________________________ The hamlet bustles with activity as a hub of trade and labor, in the shadow of Mount Augustine and the city of Johannesburg. Serving as a buffer between the seaport and the Empire, the township experiences a wild array of visitors besides its native raev citizens. It sits perched upon an elevated hill, overlooking the vast Boris’ Basin. The town smith repairing a strelt’s wife’s kitchen knife, following her denting it in an attempt to maim him. It is centered around the ideals of community and fraternity, lacking in a banner levy, the ‘strelts’ of the town trade their plows for spears in times of conflict. This system, which encourages focusing on domestic affairs and merriment, allows for the town to develop into more than simply a title for the Baron, it is a place of culture and brotherhood. Each strelt cares for his neighbor, and each strelt serves the Baron, the Baron in return gives friendship and protection. The System of Strelesy _______________________________________________________________ Two strelts hard at work amongst the livestock. Tracing its practical formation to the days of Old Raev, strelesy is the system in which the standing lord has no levy force, instead opting to raise his citizenry, called strelts, in times of defense or conflict. The strelts are usually each trained in their own craft, though quite a few take to the professions of husbandry and subsistence farming. Many strelts become masters in their craft, for example those in the fields of tannery and smithing. These will pass on their skills to apprentices, who will in turn take up the trade. Some strelts open their own business, and outside sale is not entirely unheard of. An armored strelt and the Baron engaged in duel. In the modern day, the Strannik is charged with the outfitting and general readiness of the strelesy for battle. He ensures they will know the chain of command and how to perform just as well, if not better, than a professional soldier in the field of combat. Strelts work well as a team, and therefore they will perform as a team or as a single entity in combat. Culture and Religion _______________________________________________________________ The High Exarch Yaroslav I, preaching to an assembly. Vsenk is a traditional raev town, brought back to the values of Kralta and even those of the Old Raev, in the Burgundian Hetmanate through vigorous study and education on those subject matters. The religion of the town is a sect of the Canonist Church, spun with Ruskan Traditions, professed over by the High Exarch, a direct subordinate and cardinal to the High Pontiff. The liturgy is read in Old Raev and some sacraments have less heartlandish spins upon them, such as baptism involving a newborn duckling as a symbol of the newly Ruskan Canonist’s purity in the eyes of Godan. The center of worship is called the Temple of Blessed Vladislav and is blessed by the Vicar of God himself. Baptismal candidates often take ruskanized names, a Theodore would become Fyodor, for instance. Though, not all citizens of the township are Ruskan Canonists, many adhere to more mainstream traditions. The Baron Fyodor recounting the tale of The Macecatcher to two strelts. The culture of Vsenk is deeply rooted in Old Raev Tradition, specifically to the cultures of Kralta and the Ancient Hetmanate. To successfully return to their roots, the raev of Vsenk have abandoned heartland traditions, and the Hansetic traditions adopted by their cousins in the north, and instead delved deeper into their nationality. The strelts of Vsenk often find themselves in fascination with tales of the Kraltans and Krelm, or of the Prince of Raev and the Ancient Hetmanate of Burgundy. Specifically, the fraternized brotherhood of raev which warred with the other ancient Harrenite tribes.
