'The Holy Church has suffered a great loss as of late. “The Immaculate Throne of the Vicar of God is vacant as the High Pontiff Sixtus IV has retired”

is announced from the Apostolic Palace. With his retirement, The Holy Church of the Canon is now under "sede vacante," until a new Supreme Pontiff is chosen by God through the conclave.'

 

The Cathedral in Johannsburg is bathed in the light of a thousand candles and misty from the incense proliferating in the air within. Many pilgrims, both clergy and laity alike are gathered, crowding the Church for prayer. The crowd has stretched outside the doors as the many voices all are chanted in unison with devotions and petitions. From the incense-filled room come the College of Cardinals, vested in their most elaborate attire in solemnity of the occasion. As the murmurs and sounds fade, member of the Synod, Cardinal Fabian the Lesser, rises to begin with a prayer:

 

"In nomine Patris, et Horenus, et Exaltus Honorem."

"Heavenly Creator, walk with us as our mediator and judge to endow us with a sound mind and contrite heart in the election of the next Holy Pontiff. Grant, we pray, that by your infinite wisdom and omnipotence that whomever is chosen shall reflect your mercy, compassion, strength, and duty in the exercising of this great Holy Office. This we ask in pray, in the name of all Aenguls, all saints, and of the universal church, Amen."

 

Fabian looks up, pausing, before he addresses the gathered, reading from a prepared parchment. "May grace and peace be with you all. Today, we are assembled as a Kingdom to GOD to bestow upon a new grand shepherd, to serve as the Servant of Servants to GOD's church, the Supreme Pontiff of The Holy Canon. This holy year of choosing, in Anno Domini 1577 of Summer of the Grand Harvest, the following will be the candidate for the position of High Pontiff: Giovanni Di Luca, Archbishop of Jorenus."

 

The Cardinals then proceed to order, "Extra omnes," signaling the laity and all non-participating guests of the election to be escorted out to begin deliberation.

Idelfonse bows before the altar, uttering a long prayer as he places his vote on the ballout box. "Amen." he mutters as he placed his vote before shuffling his bare feet across the cold stone of the cathedral. He sit down next to his coleagues who, differently from him, would be dressed in fine red robes while Idelfonse in simple brown, monk attire.

Giovanni would approach the altar, bowing before it as he would utter the traditional prayer, placing his vote in the ballout box. "Amen." he would say quietly to himself, before making his way back to the pews, to sit beside his fellow Cardinals as they voted in turn.

Cardinal Godwin Rothgard's body lifts from the pew, he ascends toward the altar. He lays he vote into the ballot box. He takes a knee before the altar, signing the Lorraine cross before returning to his pew.

Fabian the Lesser, pale and gravely ill, makes his way to the altar; this is surely the last time he will ever cast such a vote. Incapable of kneeling, he leans forward and places his ballot into the box. "Amen."
