On the Silent Preacher

1st Thesis on Priestly Personality; the Berrian Discourses

____________________________________________________________

He perches himself on the steps of the cathedral. He opens his mouth, the city mulls before him. He urges them towards faith, to come into the cathedral. He urges them to sin no more, to pray and to ask the forgiveness of the Lord Almighty. Yet, he is not speaking at all. The peoples of the city do not hear the words of the silent preacher. He continues his rant, oblivious to his muteness. He bears God’s robes, he bears the cross, yet he does not bear the burden God placed upon the clergy.

God’s church is placed upon this earth to guide and ensure the salvation of His flock. Seclusion: the natural enemy of God’s Word. The preacher cannot spread God’s word if he sits expecting for the people to come to him. A preacher, a priest, a friar, a bishop. They must all go forth and speak. They must speak on the weather, on the prices in the market, before they speak of God. Only then, will the peoples of the city listen to them. The antisocial clergyman hurts himself, hurts his Church, and hurts the spread of God’s true word. He encourages sin and the rise of opposing ideologies. When the flock of God is not tended to daily with loving care, the wool of each lamb and sheep will overgrow and become wild.

Signed,

Acolyte Otto of Berry

Idelfonse 'the hermit' frowns as he sees the thesis in his bi-monthly visit to Johannesburg. "I retreated to the mountain tops to reflect on the nature of God away from sinful distraction, is that such a bad thing?" The young man asks himself while looking at the thesis in Johannesburg's square, holding supplies on another hand.
