HedgeHug 2049 Share Posted November 22, 2016 Spoiler I spend thirty minutes of my life on my dedicant task: write an essay on grass might as well get some ******* rep for this bullshit The Druidic library contains many great tomes of knowledge on all kinds of things. Among these extraordinary works there are also some... odd ones. This tome is one of these. A Thesis on Grass By Narmir An introduction Behold, I tell thee, behold the grace and might of grass! Though often neglected and thought of as just green, it is one of great importance. This short study shall offer insight and an alternative view on something not quite so ordinary after all… It is by Cerridwen's breath that these wondrous fields now exist. Endless are the sees of green and sometimes even golden grass that stretch far beyond the horizon. There is, however, much to know and learn about this type of plant, as there is more that bats the eye. Types of Grasses As our realm stretches far and beyond, consisting of a large variety of biomes and continents, there are also many a types of grasses. Most often they are defined by their main properties, which are: Growth rate, Color, Leaf thickness, toughness and length. The biome most often dictates its flora, and thus with different biomes come different grasses. Where there is but dry soil, the grasses that live there must adapt themselves to the desolate environment and seek comfort in shade. Whereas the grasses in fertile forests seek out sunny spots and stay clear from the bark of trees. It is here where mosses take their places. The grasses in dry environments tend to grow short to minimize exposure to the sun, which is the opposite in forests. On the importance of Grasses As all flora and fauna in our beautiful realm do, grasses too contribute to the balance the Aspects keep in check. For it’s greatness in presence, makes it all the more important. We take now in our study: the point of view in the life cycle of a single strain of grass. It is a sunny day, the ground is fertile and moisturized by recent rainfall and the seedling carrying the grass strain is about to pop. As it does so, with time, it will gradually grow as Cerridwyn gifts it her warmth. He or she, can now sway in the wind like its brothers and sisters among which it grew. Happy in communion. Part of the grand family that is the fertile field. Say now, that this unsuspecting strain comes to fall… and becomes the prey of a predator. It is ripped from the ground, and eaten by a young deer. The strain of grass then transfers from living entity, to resource to a being that lives higher in the flow of flora and fauna. This deer will then, due to more consuming of grasses, grow to adulthood. So we see, that our little strain of grass has contributed to the maturing and growing of the fauna that consumes it. The fauna then, in their adulthood, mate with their kin and produce offspring. We could say that thus, our little strain of grass has also contributed to the birthing of this new offspring, it has contributed to the circle… however… all that begins, must come to an end. There are two ways how this may happen. Firstly the grasses, after being eaten by the deer, end up as leftovers in its excrements, and provides fertility to the soil it lands on and therefore will contribute once more to the growth of flora. Secondly, the deer may die. Its cause unknown, its result: decay of the once living body, and returning of the fertility from flesh to soil. Here too, it will provide fertility and contribute to new flora. A circle begins and ends, and where it ends begins. It is in balance, forever. A cycle. The cycle of Life. Next to this, the roots to serve their purposes. For without grass a field will be but barren and sandy. With only a bit of wind the entirety of the landscape is bound to change, and not for the better. Sandstorms can be deadly to the unsuspecting victim. Lastly, grasses can also be used as a building material. For if it is dried and bundled together it can make for well insulating packing of roofs that is light enough and will not collapse. Shelter is important, for shelter means that people can live properly. And people that live properly can thus thrive more in life. This is essential and it is most important for those that utilize it, to thank the Aspects for their gift. The cut grasses will simply grow back to their original length.
