The Pathfinders

The Pathfinders began their journey through the world of Aegis not too long ago, as first one, then two elves began to create such a thing. The High Prince of Laurelin appointed Lord Blackthorn to lead the guild of trackers and hunters, archers of growing skill. The guild lay quiet for a few days, then members began to trickle in, a Master Swordsman and Master Archer joined the guild, and before long, the trickle turned to a flood. It was around this point that the Pathfinders were relatively strong, with about a half score of Pathfinders and a Tracker.

Then came the Ranger War, at which point a group of badly organised but very strong and well provisioned Rangers of Oren grew resentful and restless. It was not long before they rose up and tried to claim the throne and crown of Oren for themselves. After the Rangers declared their mission, the Kingdom of Oren threw up a huge wall of stone, at the edge of their kingdom. This wall was topped with a ballista on the keep, and the Rangers had no way into Oren.

Unfortunately, the Kingdom’s motley army chose to attack first, and waves of soldiers were decimated by diamond covered Rangers. After the first few defeats, the Kingdom Alliance of Elves and Humans and Dwarves disengaged, creating a battle camp and began to prepare. Shortly after, the great Wizard entered his realm, and discovered the madness. In a fit of undying rage, he swooped down into the fray and smote the rangers with his lightning fists and shining sword. The Rangers were broken, and the Kingdom soldiers swooped in a raided the camp, taking anything of value.

The Pathfinders were one of the groups involved in the Alliance, and the bounty they gained elevated them to a position where they had the resources to do what they wished, and they chose to continue their current way, training and gathering power.

As the Pathfinders grew, their interests began to change, and seeds of corruption and evil began to grow. At this point, when the magical wards around Al’Khazaar fell and the city was vulnerable, the Pathfinders chose to raid and loot the city, something that was an act of terrible proportions, not in the structural damage, but in the abuse of the land the Wizard was sworn to protect. Once again the Wizard was enraged, banishing two Pathfinders, the Captain and the Leader. The Captain returned, but the Leader remains lost in the grey void beyond the world of Aegis.

The Pathfinder’s minds darkened at the loss, and they turned their attentions away, moving far into the wild, uninhabited lands to construct a new village, raising The Temple of Blackthorn upon a high spire of stone and lava. Now we wait, awaiting knowledge of our leader, if he returns, who knows what the future will hold, but should he not, the Pathfinders seeds of darkness will surely blossom, and the Night Elves will rise up in their place.

It is hoped by many the Night Elves will not be the result of the Pathfinders loss and partial despair, for the Night Elves are merciless killers, hunters of Bandits and Citizens alike. Should the Night Elves stalk the lands, fair citizens of Aegis would do well to lock tight doors and windows when the sun begins to sink, for it will surely not be safe for any.

By Pathfinder Captain Zevandir, current leader of the Pathfinders until the Leader returns.
