TinyBiceps 569 Share Posted March 22, 2017 Bavol pondered for a few moments, did they give fancy titles to anyone now? It felt like Squires now got the title of Ser, along with shiny medals and grandeur living spaces. All you had to do was risk the very thing you’re fighting for; your life. He thought about this subject near religiously, the fact that every other person was fine with war. Somehow they seemed to fight without consequence.. Without the mentally scarring image of constant loss happening around them. The smell of the dead not burnt into every nose on the battlefield. Were these men truly human? How in the Creator’s name could they come home without grievances? Practically unburdened? Of course he held respect for these veterans, living in the dirt like pigs during these trying times, but what did they hold close to them if not their sense of self? The sight of the incoming commander pulled him from his thoughts.“Sir Bavol Bayman?”, he shouted. “Aye Ser!”, responded Bavol. The knight moved up in the line as he kept his salute respectfully high. Medallions flashed on every man’s tabard like the millions of lights in the sky at night. He couldn’t tell if it was annoying because of the reflective blindness or the show of apathetic behaviour towards mankind. The rewards showed nothing but their incapability to feel emotions any longer. This was not something that needed to be flashed around. It hit him, what these soldiers would lose in the long run would not be their families or land, but their sense of humanity. Spoiler (( Something that has been pulling at me ever since I saw someone post about it quite a while ago, is the fact that people don't seem bothered by the fact they just went to war. One side wins, takes the land or whatever the agreement warranted, then celebrates and moves onto the next war. It's a cycle that involves no roleplay whatsoever (or so it feels like). Anyhow, carry on.
