On the Nature of Masculinity and Femininity

6th of the Amber Cold, 1612

Regarding the occult and the essence of being itself, there exists a certain dichotomy that emerged from the great oneness, the ceaseless chaos that was creation.  Aye, for without dichotomy there is no existence and no perception.  That which is soft only exists in relation to that which is hard, that which is light is only such in relation to that which is dark, that which is hot is only such to that which is cold.  Indeed, existence itself only exists in relation to nonexistence.  Polarity and conflict are inherent to reality and is unavoidable when discussing metaphysical concepts.

There are those, then, that would suggest this polarity is at eternal conflict.  The flame is always against the darkness, the sky is at war with the earth, the consciousness fights the ego, and the sun and moon are in boundless struggle for the dawn.  While not an absurd statement, and perhaps even truthful observation, some would bring this into spiritual and over analyzed ideology.  When we allow our vision to be blinded by the concept of disunion they shall begin taking sides.  We say such things as: the light must overcome darkness, the sun must always rise, and the conscious must triumph over the ego.  Such examples of this beautifying mortal perception can be seen in the dogma of overwrought manifestations of ancient anecdotes.

Let us examine the origin of earthen life, the ocean.  If we take a small portion of seawater we shall see a myriad of compelling creatures.  From these creatures we observe a boundless narrative of conflict, of small creatures consuming each other, struggling to exist in the overcrowded blue aether that is their watery universe.  If we only view this small portion of water in relation to the individual creatures, we might as well start taking sides.  We shall praise some creature for particular qualities or another and regard the rest as disposable or flawed.  Now… place this water back into the ocean, and see it for nothing more than incessing blue waves and we see harmony.  The conflict, the dichotomy becomes inherent to the existence of the ocean itself.  For, to light as flame is to cast a shadow and the sun must love the moon so eminently, he kills himself every night to give her a chance to shine.

The obvious connection one might observe is to the aggressive nature of mortals to war.  While this is an astute remark, allow us to look inwards into the harmony of the self, into the prime dichotomy of the self: masculinity and femininity.

Before we continue, that which is masculine and feminine is not that which is male and female, at least not in the harmonious individual.  As just shown with the harmony of the ocean, the harmonious individual must have conflict and polarity within themselves to be at peace.  The individual that is too masculine will become impulsive and aggressive.  While the individual that is too feminine will become anemic and overtly keen to pettiness.  Nay, the feminine must tame the masculine, and the masculine must invigorate the feminine.  Be warned though, these features are not physical in nature, but spiritual and mental concepts.  The individual who boasts sexual androgyny or epicene physical traits as moral superiority or some deviant enlightenment is nothing more than a vain bambino entrenched by spectacle and adolescent lust.  The harmonious man is not effete or barbarous, and the harmonious woman is not brutish or passive, they are balanced between heat and cool, gentleness and roughness.  This is the paradox that is the wise being:

Passive yet spontaneous,

Weak yet acquiescent,

Detached yet passionate,

Action without effort.

Nothing and everything.

"I did not understand a word of this but I can tell it has been written with understanding. Or drafted by a man who has breathed in one too many breaths of thanhium." Morrighaen comments offhandedly.
