(https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GU2LRniPIDvFZ_YblovJLJL2slfDJKcHS2ESJt7_CGU/edit): Google Doc Version By: Sander (SanderWarrior14/SandergamerNL) Index: ---------- Governing/Leadership Language Homelands Clothing Religion Feasts -------------------- Governing/Leadership --- The Batavians are ruled in a bit of an odd way. One could put their leadership between that of a monarchy and that of a republic. This is because they have a single leader, called the Stadtholder and a parliament-like council, called ‘De Raad’. The odd thing is that the council doesn’t generally make decisions but rather acts as a group of advisors to the Stadtholder. In certain occasions they do make the decisions. This is either when the Stadtholder has given them permissions to deal with a certain situation or when the Stadtholder is ill/deceased. In the last case, the council is the ones making decisions for the Batavians until the new Stadtholder is installed, which must happen as quick as possible. The term Stadtholder is a bit of a weird one in itself. ‘Stadtholder’ comes from the official Batavian word ‘Stadhouder’ and means something along the lines of ‘keeper of the city’. The term originated as the title of the Batavian high steward but through time it became how the leading person of the Batavian community/Batavian lands was called. Current Stadtholder and first official one in Axios is Willem Hagelijn I (in common: William Hagelin I). Language --- The Batavian language isn’t particulary well known due to it only being spoken by few people and generally every native speaker being able to handle himself in common. The language is a sub-language of common and the native speakers originate from Lorraine, Haense and Alras. Currently the only place in Axios where it is commonly spoken is the district of Batavia, located in Sutica. Commonly used words/notable words in Batavian: Goedendag = Good morning Goedenavond = Goodnight/ Good evening Hallo = Hello Vriend = Friend Stadhouder = Stadtholder En = And De/Het = The Van = Of Ork = Orc Mens/Mensch = Human Dwerg = Dwarf Halflieden = Halflings Druïde = Druid Stad = City Bos/Bosch = Forest Schip = Ship Zee = Sea Eiland = Island Handel = Trade Raad = Council Oorlog = War Koning = King Hertog = Duke Koninkrijk = Kingdom Republiek/Republieck = Republic Hertogdom = Duchy Prinsdom = Princedom/Principality Federatie = Federation Sultanaat = Sultanate Lotharingen = Lorraine Savoje = Savoy Harië = Haria Domijn van Malin = Dominion of Malin Suutika = Sutica Grootkoninkrijk Urguan = Grand Kingdom of Urguan Hanze = Haense Westerlanden = Westerlands Noorland = Norland Homelands --- The Batavian people originate mainly from Heartland territories though also have some roots with the Highlander race. Despite their varying origins, they tend to be drawn to flat, grassy or woodland areas close to water, mainly the sea or rivers. Clothing --- (Average workmaid) (Military formal/Fleet formal) (Average man) (higher class) Religion --- The Batavian religion is quite the loose concept. This is because they, as a people who value freedom and tolerance highly, allow most religions. Any religion that doesn’t worship a dark power is allowed in fact, as long as it doesn’t try to influence people who do not wish to be affected by it. For example, aspectism is allowed as long as the aspectist in the situation doesn’t try to force his religion onto others or bothers others with it. The Batavians themselves are largely followers of canonism and the ‘True Faith’ yet they tolerate any religion and are required to respect other’s beliefs. This sometimes leads to Batavians wishing to follow another religion and this is completely allowed. Within Batavian lands everyone is free to believe what they want to believe in, even if it makes no sense to others. Atheism is also not really frowned upon, as long as atheists try not to convince others about God not existing. Feasts* --- *More may be added over time.
