Elves of the Bronze Law

The Curse of Immortality

The Bronze Law was the answer to what Asthil Haumel called "The Second Elven Curse." It's well known that each descendant race was cursed by Iblees in a way that would most negatively impact the nations established by the Four Brothers. In times of yore the Wandering Wizard had blessed each race in a way he saw fit to counter the curses the fallen Daemon placed on the Four Brothers and their established nations. Elves who follow the Bronze Law believe that the Wizard's attempted counter curse did more harm than good, it had seemed at first that being immortal would lend the Elves plenty of time to reproduce despite their reduced fertility; but alas, the immortality was only of the body, the lacking blessing did not shield their minds from the madness that comes with age. As the Elder Elves faded away into obscurity this fact grew obvious, but it was quickly disparaged by those who would disagree for the sake of pride.

Immortality is not a blessing. It is a curse.

Only the Elven race has been cursed twice.

To be immortal is to watch as your friends perish, to grow outcasted from the world around you as it shifts and changes. You will see death at every turn and due to the cowardice that wracks your immortal body you will never be able to save them from their preordained demise. No mind however keen can avoid the vestiges of this ill fated venture, it is with the sound of silence that the truth of the abominable deed dawns. You shall never join your kin in the afterlife and you shall walk the earth until the future world snuffs your life out with disease, or swords and the quaint thud of an abominable bolt piercing your flesh.

Bronze Law

The Bronze Law, Elberun’tir, offers an escape from madness to the disjointed Elves who yet roam the world. Bronze can be sharpened. It does not tarnish as other metals do. Bronze is fashioned into tools, and as Haumel once wisely said, it is not a metal of luxury to be intricately crafted and shelved in glass. Do not fall prey to the ploys and machinations of this vengeful earth for the sake of trying, and lastly do not bend to the whims of others who elevate themselves beyond the work and dreams of man united. Fall before the altars of the ancestors and pledge your fealty to the power of your Gael, the sense of family identity. It is to them that you owe your inheritance, after all.

Be Bronze

The only way to surpass the fate ordained for you is through rigorous training. Meditation will keep negative feelings such as greed, lust and gluttony at bay. Enhance your resolve and defy the malcontent ways of the past with the noble virtues of chivalry and mercifulness. To indulge is to allow your emotions to rule you, to give in to wanton rage and dishonesty, things that should always remain in the past to learn from, but not to continue in excess under any circumstances. The nature of The Ceasing Restrained is to accept things without regret, to progress along the trodden path without weariness or discomfort. To indulge yourself in things of value is to turn your cheek to the foul truths of a world touched by the vile arcane, contaminated by the Veil that shall eventually plunge us into the depths of the abyss. The power of unity, friendship and camaraderie are forces that cannot be ignored when in the face of adversity.

Div’laureh. Div’ahern’an. Bernun’ante.

No favors. No blessings. Only Bronze.

A path of endless violence is one that a true warrior will seek but there is honor in being among the other castes. The metalworkers, carpenters and philosophers are all admirable men and women who also work hard each and every day to ensure the success of their state. After all, it is the might of your people that precedes that of your lineage -- to give in to aroused temptations is never permissible unless your personal honor has been breached in a way deemed unforgivable. In order to appease one who is wronged in such a circumstance involves offering a gift that represents the teachings of the Horned Man. This can be done by offering a hemp-knit stocking or a longbow. If a gift is not offered the conflict can be settled in either a duel or an archery contest, this however does not end the debate but instead honors the victor and eases further tensions.

Faith

There is no select faith one must adhere to in order to be considered Bronze, but one must always be unaffiliated with pantheons outside of Aspectism, Ancestral Veneration and Shamanism. The open practice of religion cannot be done in zealousness and must be kept in line with the other virtues. The avoidance of faith in otherworldly entities akin to AenguDaemonica is for the simple reason that the Mali were cursed by both Iblees and the Wizard in the aforementioned times of antiquity. They are to be avoided in order to safeguard the Elven race from some other cruel and incompetent demigod who wishes to toy with the lives of the innocent. Furthermore, Malin is seen as a figure to be revered purely for the legacy he left behind -- us. He shall not be held in contempt for his actions or remembered with spiteful indignation but never shall we remain vigilant in our belief that he's a prophet, he was simply a befuddled man touched by evil and left as vulnerable to its touch as the rest of us.

TL;DR

Revised by me, the initial concept is a work by the former LM PtahWithin. See here.

  • Bronze do not practice arcane or holy magic, in fact, they rarely practice magic at all unless it's in service of the Horned Man.
  • Bronze do not revere Malin as a being akin to a god, there shall never be praise for him as anything asides from being the Elven namesake and progenitor.
  • To be Restrained is the same as being Bronze. The Restrained do not scream or shout their war-cries, it is considered a meaningless exercise of emotion.
  • A common phrase coined by the Restrained is eth'hiyem thrur'sae, which means freedom from turmoil.
  • This revised culture lore centers on the control of emotions, not the absence of them. Rage, sadness, happiness and pleasure are capable of being felt in tandem with contentedness that comes with being bronze, but they shouldn't be acted on hastily.
