Looming Encounter

The old High Prophet sat quietly on the small rug of the garden. As he paged through the book in his lap, he made a point to read through it slowly despite having read it half a hundred times. Those who had knowledge of the book would know of its ever-changing text and the reason why it would do so. As he ran a hand slowly down the face of a page he paused, taking a moment to run through the words once more. With a frown, he closed the book and called aloud to one of the servants. “Khoren. ***’i anek oz da Kat’aikaz.” He holds out a note to the golem which takes it and walks off toward the Kingdom.

 

 

 

Thick black smoke and roaring flames arch high into the sky as the glade burned. The combined smells of rotting and burning nature fill the air as the Rangers of Anbella slowly picked their way around the fire and pools of ooze, marching in single file up the side of the mountain away from the aftermath of the battle. In the hands of several of the Rangers, small trinkets and looted items from the creature they had fought would serve as a reminder of the encounter. Yet the single phrase it had spoken would continue to echo in their minds, whether they had these trinkets or not, casting doubt and worry as to whether or not this was truly over.
