Across the wasteland of old Johannesburg, in the infested forests upon its eastern borderlands the old fortress of Caer Ostwick has been relight. It’s black banners hoisted once more, a new occupant has taken up the ruin as his own. Long was the area left to rot, much like the Kaedreni lands of old Vailor. Left abandoned since the fall of the fifth Empire, the area due it’s Thanium contamination, has made settlement in the region unappealing to many. Despite this, torches light the halls of Caer Ostwick once more. As a beacon to travellers in need of refuge against the both beast and bandit.

As the sun died and the night settled over the land. The new Castellan of Ostwick watched from the relative comfort of his stone battlements. The dark pulled overhead like a blanket, the stars ragged tears in it’s smooth skyward surface. He heard then the beasts of the woodlands trailing through the shadowy territory. They hunted in search of game, and the odd traveler too dense to seek refuge in safer places.

 

This was his land now, as it had been the land of House Briarwood, and of House Vimmark before him. Here, as it had been before, a refuge for his kind. For all his kindred, bound beneath the laws of the Codex; A tribunal to guide the anarchal Axios brood and apply the proper authority to the lawless society that had settled here apart from their Aeldinic counterparts.

 

He paused, his lips pursed before turning on his heel to exit from the walls and return to the innards of the keep. Inside he fled to his study; to his quill and paper. Ravens took flight from Caer Ostwick soon after. With letters bound and secure, each soaring outward from the fortress with a scent for those unseen.
