EDIT: Turns out I'm already whitelisted, from an app I made in 2013...suppose it was still worth doing this to sharpen up on what's changed since then. Will leave this app up in case it still needs to be improved! Thanks in advance...

Definitions

Feel free to Google the answers or use our wiki definitions as a reference, but make sure that you write the write them in your own words, not those of another website or person! Plagiarizing will result in the automatic denial  of your application!

What is Roleplaying?: Roleplaying is adopting and acting out the thoughts, feelings, and instincts of another person (fictionalised or otherwise).

What is Metagaming?: Metagaming is using information gained OOCly to gain an advantage ICly, or vice versa. I used to have a load of nifty examples that I'd come up with to illustrate my point, but you'll have to take my word for it this time around, I've written them out too many times!

What is Power-emoting (Powergaming)?: I've seen the definition of powergaming put forward in two senses in the past, both of which seem to me to be relevant + make sense; the first is to play in such a way as to remove choice from the other person(s) you're RPing with, and the second is to play in such a way as to create a character who is unfairly/unrealistically powerful (i.e a scholar who can read 5 languages, hear a whisper from across town, juggle 15 live cats, and fight off seventeen trained assassins with a toothpick, all at the same time). Take your pick of which definition you want to see here, but I'll avoid them both...!

In-Character Information
Now you actually make your character - be creative but stay reasonable! Make sure they make sense and that they follow lore. Try to come up with a character that you actually want to play.

Character’s name: (what do you want your character to be called?) Aadeel Ibn Ikhlas

Character’s sex: (male or female?) Male

Character’s race: (you can find all the playable races here.) Male (Farfolk)

Character’s age: (upon application, your character must be 18 or older, and depending on the race, they can be over five hundred years old!) 24

Biography  (This is one of the most important sections of the application. Please take your time and make it a decent paragraph long. Read up on your character's race and be sure to add at least one accurate reference from the server lore): (where does your character come from?; where have they traveled to?; what year were they born in? et cetera.)

As the son of a merchant, Aadeel enjoyed an upbringing nearly unique within Qalasheen society. His father, a wool-trader, inhabited a social plane which garnered almost universal affection; he was too lowly to be tainted by the totalitarian politics of the Sultan, and too comfortable to be affected by it, and so was respected by both sides of the socioeconomic sandwich in which he found himself. Indeed, his upbringing was spent learning the art of trade, and not much else, working daily, sleeping nightly, and occasionally dreaming up plans to play mischief with rival traders. Eventually, however, Aady realised that this path would lead nowhere, as every adventurer seems to at some point or another. His father, only twenty years his senior, would own his trading post for a good few decades yet, and the younger did not relish the prospect of spending the next thirty years in the shadow of a rather portly, uneducated, and crass old man.

His way out of this rut came, remarkably fortuitously, at the hands of his Uncle, a fellow tradesman, who arrived with his caravan some weeks after this doubt begin to gnaw at Aady, and proposed that it might be time for the young man to undertake something of a grand tour. Aady needed to see the world, the man claimed, and make his own fortune – he needed to prove himself as a bona fide man of the family. Of course, the youngster, untrained in politics beyond that of the desert but possessing the same curiosity which most within the Sultanate exhibited, jumped at the opportunity; like so many others, he  couldn't imagine who wouldn't want to travel the world, see the sights, and make a little bit of money along the way. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it transpired that this last ambition would be the most difficult to realise. Armed with a (rather large, it has to be said) coin purse, and a few trinkets to trade for transport, the young explorer set off, determined to conquer foreign lands, before realising fairly quickly that he could not sell trinkets to the men of Oren, if nothing else because they tended to confiscate them and accuse him of being a trickster or a thief. Prejudice was everywhere, though it was accompanied by a curiosity which matched his own – and Aady, accustomed as he was to relative anonymity, was not sure how to respond to the sideways glances which met him at every town.

Over time, he learned that the simplest way to conquer this creeping insecurity was to erect several layers of impermeable frostiness, masking a man who, at heart, enjoyed largely the same indulgences as every other human of his age. Unwilling to return to his home until he had made his economic mark on those who had so cruelly dented his ego, the tradesman set off, his chest newly swollen with overconfidence and bravado, eager to make money and business acquaintances at every trading post, tavern, and talking point in every town in the land.

Unfortunately, just as this part of the tale is set to begin, Aady's money has all but run out...and with political developments at home looking unstable – the absorption of the Sultanate into the neighbouring Kingdom of Santegia doing little to ease his worries – things were certainly looking bleak. With nothing to show for his years abroad bar several outfits of fine silk, an exotic accent, and a significantly smaller coin-purse, it became apparent that it was time to improvise, in order to fulfil his outstanding potential as a Machiavellian soul in this tumultuous time.

Personality Traits: (what are your character's quirks?; habits?; likes and dislikes?) Aadeel is an extremely clean person; he washes several times a day, and prides himself on keeping his silken robes spotless. He is not repulsed by those who are dirty, but rather feels a sense of sympathy for them, that they do not hold themselves in enough regard to warrant a regular bath. He is reluctant to be called by his nickname (Aady) by all except those who know him best; what difference leaving off the 'l' makes that leaves him so tender on this front is unclear!

Ambitions: (what does your character aspire to be?) A tradesman of some sort, though, in truth, this is subject to change, depending on what the fastest route to financial stability proves to be!

Strengths/Talents: (what is your character really, really good at?) Spotting a bargain, and closing a deal. He also dabbles in little ditties and tavern-melodies,

Weaknesses/Inabilities: (what is a skill that your character needs to work on?) Holding a sword with as much certainty as he holds a pen...

Appearance: (what does your character look like?; how tall are they?; hair color?; scars?) Aadeel stands tall for a Qalasheen, and is uncharacteristically dark-skinned. Holding himself in a self-assured, rather pompous manner, it is clear that he has been spared the hardships of many of his kinsmen, and his garments, the finest in desert fashion, could leave nobody in doubt as to his possession of at least delusions of grandeur, if not the wealth that should accompany it. His voice, low in pitch yet fairly soft in tone, was one of a high-class salesman, yet as hard as he had tried, he could not eliminate the slightly cold undertone which reflected his inner nature. Indeed, Aady cared little for people, and was concerned primarily with business. Everything was a transaction to him; sport, love, music – all involved one person giving, and another taking what they wanted from somebody else at one point or another. Aady, in most of these pursuits, at least, wanted to be the one gaining from every exchange, knowing that the other party was usually trying to do the same.

Skin: (please provide us a screenshot of your character’s skin; if you need help, see our screenshot guide here.)

Please do let me know if there's anything I've missed - it's been a few years since I've done one of these, so I'm a little rusty!

Thanks,

Everything looks good to me but since you are already accepted onto the server I think this is more fitting in the Off-Topic subforum.

Edit: I was suggested to move this to the 'Denied' bin.
