The future of a workshop

A letter written with a clinical cursive is found tacked onto several archways of the buildings of officials across the city of Santegia, the vellum warmed from the sun's gleam. The corners of each copy are neatly folded into a triangle as if to indicate the reader to turn a page to view the manic sketches of the inventor, Derral Falkner.

"To whom it may concern,

I am worried for the future of my work and its place at Santegia.

I create machines and devices, both standard and bespoke, and research to advance the field of movements and mechanics. This requires itself large devices and materials which cannot be fitted through the sole trapdoor and ladder provided to me - but which when fully installed will prove a tight squeeze in the space afforded to me.

The solution I propose here will give me the space to perform my work in full, and enable the completion of the workshop's arrangement - which involves glassware, steelworking and contraptions that must be pre-built in pieces. I call it a... lift: a platform allowing the transfer of materials and devices along a vertical movement of pulleys. Such a lift will be external, as the arrangement of the workshop would not allow for its movements to fit inside. It would be placed on the face of the wall of the property (Derral's Workshop) towards the canal's lip. I have it visualised on this letter's reverse, so you may see.

I hope you agree to this measure to be installed, to prove Santegia to truly be a city of makers and artisans - to allow my work to become.

With all regards,

Derral Falkner."

((Will add the sketch later - it's already done, promised!))
