Awakening

Demotheus

Floating in a dark void. Once again, that’s all she knew. Blissful peace. Reprieve from everything, even herself. No questions of where she was, who she was, or anything at all. Peace. Quiet. Death.

Then she is disturbed, a boiling pain searing through what she figures is her body, her eyes glowing white hot, even within the darkness of nothingness. Not much changes, but she finds herself surrounded by flames. She finds that she, herself, is but a flame. She perceived the soul fire around her, each one representing one of her Ascended kin. Then, she saw the beast. An eldritch horror, an abomination of chaos. Indescribable and incapable of perception by mortal eyes. Her eyes were not mortal in this moment, in this place, however. And then, she saw Her. Her Goddess. The Archanguel. She needed her. She needed her fire. She was reluctant, but knew it to be the only way. This beast would bring about an end to the world as it were. She gave herself up – as did the rest. The archanguel battled the creature, and the creature was no more.

And so was her power. The thing she clung to. The magic that held her mind together, moreso than it had been before. Stripped from her. Aeriel thanked them all. Words, spoken by a god to Lotha. She would cry in that moment if she could. There was no need, for Aeriel wept for her. For all of them. And the tears imbued themselves within Lotha. Within her friends. Replaced. And then, as soon as it began, it ended.

Her eyes shot open, laying in the cloud temple. She stared at the ceiling, and slowly sat up, shaking violently. Uncontrollable. Her mind, held together by the power she had, began to split at the stitched seams once more. She shook her head and grasped it in her hands. “No rest...” She stood, stumbling. Her body quaked as the weight of what she had witnessed crashed upon her. She raised her hands before her, focusing on them. “It was just..a strange dream...just...” She stared at them, her eyes slowly widening. No red soulflame would come forth. Nothing. Not a spark. The world spun around her in that moment, and she stumbled from the temple, unwillingly awake and living once more.
