Upon recruitment into the Imperial State Army, all recruits are immediately enrolled into the Imperial Combat Academy. For the next two years they will undergo a set of rigorous trials designed to prepare them for a life of military service and duty to the Empire. The following will be a brief summary of the events each new recruit will accomplish under the direction and supervision of a Combat Academy Commandant (CAC).

Year 1:

  1. ISA Initial Assessment

  2. Issuance of Selected ISA Literature

  3. Uniform and ISA Appearance Standards

  4. Initial Equipment Issue

  5. Barracks Assignment

  6. Duty Assignments

  7. Imperial Indoctrination Training

  8. Initial Military Education and Combat Training

  9. Year 1 Individual Assessment

1. ISA Initial Assessment (Monday)

At the beginning of each Saint’s Week- at a minimum- all Ensigns, Privates, and Recruits of the ISA will gather in the palace courtyard for the initial and routine assessments and inspections. Ensigns and Privates will fall into formation separate from the recruits, who will fall into their own respective elements based on training level (Year 1 or Year 2). From there, the congregation shall be addressed by the 1st Brigade Captain. Topics for announcements or speeches shall be left to the discretion of the presiding Captain but should focus on inspiring duty and uplifting morale of the troops.

Following the Brigade Address, the current CACs shall perform overall formation and individual inspections to ensure dress and appearance compliance. Various elements of formation drill will be tested as well at the discretion of the CACs. Under-performing soldiers will be assigned additional personal training or direct readjustment training by a CAC.

At the conclusion of the inspections, the Ensigns and Privates shall be released to their assigned commands while the recruits will officially become the responsibilities of the CACs.

Note - New ensigns/recruits must be made aware of the next Brigade Assessment upon recruitment. Recruiters are responsible for ensuring recruits are shown the location of where the meeting will take place as well as the selected time for that year. Recruiters shall inform each new recruit that the time leading up to the Brigade Assessment is for them to ensure their personal affairs are in order. When a recruit shows for their initial assessment, they are considered officially recruited and are beholden to their duty in the ISA.

2. Issuance of Selected ISA Literature

Upon recruitment and/or completion of the Initial Brigade Address, new recruits will be issued any/all applicable informational materials related to the ISA. The following topics will be clearly outlined, detailed, and made available at all times.

  • Rank Structure

  • Major Authority Figures and Chain of Command

  • Imperial holdings, important locations, current geo-political climate

  • Imperial and ISA history

  • ISA Military Customs

  • Cananonism (Abridged Version)

  • ISA “Welcome Letter”

By the end of the first year, recruits are expected to have a basic understanding of key ISA information. Chiefly; Ranks, Chain of Command, and Military Customs. All other issued reading material must be learned and understood by the end of the recruits second year and before graduation from the Combat Academy.

3. Uniform and ISA Appearance Standards

Immediately after the conclusion of the Initial Brigade Address, recruits will report to ISA storage garrison to receive their uniforms. CACs will make the recruits aware of the established dress and appearance standards of the ISA, to include hair styles, approved clothing, and body alterations. From then on, all recruits will be expected to adhere to the outlined standards completely or else face punishment at the discretion of the CACs.

Once issued a uniform, recruits will form up once more to receive approved ISA haircuts performed by an Imperial Barber.

4. Initial Equipment Issue

Once a new recruit has received a uniform and has been given a haircut, they shall receive their initial equipment issue. The Quartermaster shall determine what is acceptable and available for recruits to have. A supply of these items shall be kept stocked and available for CACs to draw from and perform initial equipment issue. Recruits shall store their issued equipment in the footlocker associated with this assigned dorm in the barracks.

5. Barracks Assignment

After initial equipment issue, recruits will be taken to the dormitory section of the Bastille and be assigned a sleeping space. Recruits will occupy one to a room whenever possible. Personal storage lockers will be issued at this time so that new recruits may store their gear, personal effects, and training materials as needed. They will also be given all appropriate permissions and keys to whatever is necessary for their training.

6. Duty Assignments

Recruits that aren’t given specific assignments, engaged in training or attending indoctrination classes, shall perform some form of assigned passive duty assigned by a CAC. This is to ensure that new recruits always have something they could be doing that benefits the organization as a whole and contributes to their training.

There shall be no resource quotas emplaced on recruits except in times of great need or active war. Recruits who demonstrate willingness and dedication to do more than what is expected during the CA program shall be recognized accordingly. Donations to the ISA storeroom should be recorded by the recruit and reported to their CAC. Top performing gatherer recruits shall receive special distinction upon graduation from the CA and be given increased influence on future duties after reporting to their assigned brigades. Average or underperforming recruits shall be assigned future duties as needed.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

After a recruit has been officially welcomed into the ISA, issued all necessary equipment, and has otherwise been established within the Garrison, they are to begin formal CA training. CACs will establish a training schedule to ensure all objectives per members training files are completed. The following will be an explanation of Year 1 training objective that each new recruit must complete in order to progress to Year 2. Classes and training expeditions shall be scheduled in such a manner to accommodate as many recruits as possible. However, CACs have the flexibility to hold special classes/training in order to ensure absent recruits receive proper training before the next Brigade Address.

7. Imperial Indoctrination Training

Imperial Indoctrination Training shall encompass the academic side of the CA curriculum. Recruits must complete a minimum of two Indoc Classes in order to satisfy Year 1 requirements. CACs may hold as many Indoc Classes as they deem necessary to ensure all recruits meet requirements and/or a desired effect is achieved.

Indoc Classes should focus on the following list of topics- template training plans are provided however, CACs retain the right to instruct how they see fit.

  • Imperial and ISA History

  • Venerated Military Figures (Past/Present)

  • Core Principles

  • Imperial Allegiance/Creed

  • Customs and Courtesies

  • Imperial Culture

  • Canonism

CACs may organize guest speakers to cover any of the above listed topics as necessary.

8. Initial Military Education and Combat Training

Military Education and Combat Training shall encompass the physical and performance aspects of the CA curriculum. Recruits must complete a minimum of three ME/CT sessions in order to satisfy Year 1 requirements. CACs may hold as many ME/CT sessions as they deem necessary to ensure all recruits meet requirements and/or a desired effect is achieved.

Recruits will undergo rigorous physical conditioning, drill instruction, combatives training, and military/combat strategy. CACs shall ensure all recruits meet the combat standards established by the Drillmaster Lieutenant of Helena. One-on-one combat instruction between a CAC and a recruit is the preferred method of instruction for Year 1 recruits. However, mass instruction is permitted when there is a large amount of recruits in a single year. The overall objective for ME/CT is to provide the foundations of each recruits fighting ability and to establish military discipline. Recruits should not engage in real world combat with an enemy force unless in times of great emergency.

9. Year 1 Individual Assessment (IA)

The capstone of Year 1 training will be marked with an individual assessment of each recruit by the CACs. These assessments will be carried out the day prior the Brigade Address. CACs may conduct these assessments sooner than normally scheduled assuming the recruit has completed the minimum requirements detailed above. CACs should only make this judgement under extenuating circumstances.

Any recruits found lacking during the IA may be washed back in training or given supplemental instruction to prepare them for the Brigade Address. This will be at the discretion of the CACs. Recruits will be given a grade from 0 to 3 based on the findings of the CAC. A grade of 0 to 1 is grounds for retraining or washback depending on severity. A grade of 2 is passing with minor critiques for improvement. A grade of 3 is exemplary and instant recommendation for Year 2 training. Additionally, recruits who achieve a 3 on their IAs may be processed through an accelerated Year 2 course, resulting in early graduation and potential honors.

At the conclusion of the Year 1 IAs, recruits will be informed of the next Brigade Address (Time/Location) and be allowed personal time off until then. They will also be told to form up in a separate element from any potential Year 1 recruits who may appear at the next address.

Year 1 Exception Clauses

All items outlined above should be adhered to as written to the best of the CACs and recruits ability. However, there exists the possibility to complete items out of order situation dependant. A recruits training will never be stalled due to minor inconveniences such as absent official personnel, missing gear, or incompetence of a CAC. The decision to push a recruit through training with incomplete training items shall be left to the discretion of the Recruitmaster Lieutenant or higher authority. Every effort should be made to back fill incomplete events to ensure recruits are trained to the same Imperial Standard across the board.

The Initial Assessment is designed to be performed during the yearly Brigade Address. If for whatever reason the address fails to occur, Initial Assessments may be conducted impromptu by the CACs in order to ensure recruits aren’t stalled in training.

Additional exceptions may be made situation dependant by the Recruitmaster Lieutenant or higher authority, as needed.
