A Candidates Rebuttal, 1758

Recently my opponent and his team of advisors finally announced his running for reelection with a poster of mudslinging propaganda. He and his team attacked my character, my integrity, and my intelligence. In this I will address each of his attacks and give my rebuttal.

 

Konrad Stafyr first challenges me in his opening statements declaring that I appeared out of “thin air” and that I have made a “dishonorable and ghastly attempt to seize power” but it is indeed the contrary to both. First off I will address his questioning of my commitment to my homeland and his audacious statement declaring I’ve appeared out of thin air. I have always been committed to Haense, I’ve spent years providing lumber free of charge for the defense of our city. Palisades, trebuchets, and etc. built from the resources I’ve helped provide and I have done it willingly to preserve our kingdom just as many other common men like. I’ve fought to defend my home and just because he could not see me from his palatial estate in Nenzing does not mean I have not been committed to my homeland! Would someone not committed run against an established bureaucrat like my opponent as he is so keen on reminding us about? I think not. Next the ex-Lord Palatine attempted to attack my character. He claimed that I was attempting to seize power, but let me remind the Honorable gentleman of something: You do not own the Senate seat, nor can you buy it. It is the people’s seat not yours. To call me dishonourable and lustful of power is the exact reason I’ve decided to run. To stop those who think they are entitled to power because of what family they were born into, to stop the greedy bureaucrats like Ser Konrad Stafyr. The context in which he called me those names is also insufferable. Apparently “Ser” Konrad believes that just because he is on an expedition, that no one should run in his stead. Well Mister Stafyr, just because you have abandoned your home does not mean that the problems at home have halted. These comments reflect on my candidates character more than on my own. He is a self-absorbed, self-entitled,  egomaniac that cares more for power than for his constituents.

Next Ser Konrad Stafyr addresses his qualifications and accolades. He sees fit to remind us all that He was the Late King Andrik III’s Lord Palantine. One thing both me and my opponent agree on is the greatness of his majesty. The One thing we differ on is to whom we owe our gratitude. It seems to me that Ser Konrad believes our thanks should be to him, not the one who lead us through it all. He takes credit for the work of Andrik as well as his predecessor’s Lerald Vyronov and Ser Terrence May, who is his partner in the senate! A true Haensemen is someone who will get the job done and not boast of his accomplishments, not someone who boasts about accomplishments that were made on coattails of the greatest king in our modern history as well as two of the finest statesmen Haense has ever seen.

In the second to last section of this propaganda Ser Konrad addresses what I have done for Haense. He attacks me for calling myself a “man of the people” and points out my inexperience. I’ll address his ridicule of my statements first. You see, one of the major differences between me and Ser Konrad is that I am a “man of the people”. I was not born in an Ivory tower, I was not taught by expensive tutors nor was I fed food prepared for me by a staff of chefs. I was raised in a shack, I was fed what scraps we could afford, and I worked in the fields and fought on the frontlines. I did all this while Ser Konrad has dined with Senators in the luxurious estates of the wealthy elite. 

 

What are my qualifications? I will serve at the behest of the common people, not at the behest of the elite. I am a self-educated, literate man who has run a successful lumber business, and I am a diligent worker who will do what’s best for my constituents not what's best for myself.

Lastly I will address what Ser Konrad Has done in his time in office. He has passed a bill, but he has not stood up to the wave of progressivism that goes against GOD and our traditions, and that is why it can no longer be allowed to serve as our senator.
