JUSTICE FOR THE DEAD

13th of the Sun’s Smile, 1783

 

Dear Faithful Canonists of the Realm,

                    It is with a heavy heart I write to inform you all of the crimes that have been committed over the past decades by the Haensetic  soldiers called ‘Siegmund Corbish’. Late last night Siegmund was called to stand trial for kidnapping and assault of a Vanir child in the tavern in New Reza, he was found guilty of both charges. He did not take kindly to this, and despite his frail appearance and emaciated limbs, and removed a hidden dagger from his cane which he hurled at the presiding Judge in a fit of anger over the expanding influence of imperialism. The Duke was thankfully seen by several medics and surgeons and I have been told, is conscious and in a stable condition safe and sound in his bed in the Novellen. 

 

Not long after the trial, Siegmund was brought to Hangman’s bridge for execution for the assassination attempt of the Duke. I performed his last rites, as is my duty to all canonists, however when it came for him to confess his sins, he confessed them all and without shame or regret. He confessed to decades worth of murders, tortures, assaults, intimidation, pocketining twenty thousand mina of the populations mina paid as tax and worst of all, confessed to cannibalism. Cannibalism being, I believe, one of the worst acts a man can commit, something that I am sure that his soul will be forever condemned to the void for. One might claim this admission was simply to try and make himself seem worse than he was, however it was reported to me that after his execution his house was searched. In his house several skeletal remains were found including a child's skull and several bones which had been gnawed on, either by mice or by the brigand himself I am unsure of.

 

However, what I am certain of is that dozens of families have received justice for their loved ones tonight. No more will children be beaten and abused by this brigand, no more will men be intimidated. Let this be a lesson for all, that all men are capable of most heinous acts, acts they can easily hide from the public eye forever. Men are capable of committing the most heinous acts, people you wouldn't expect. So let us mourn the loss of several innocent lives and children who received a beating, and let us learn to avoid allowing such a criminal to go unpunished for so long.
