THE DEATH OF LECTOR-EXPLORATOR

BESSOL GAMMOV

Spoiler

Spears broke, swords swung, blood spattered: The united force meant to quell the vermin plague that infected the Holy City of Luciensburg fought valiantly. A coalition of pious Lectors, faithful Hyspians, battle-hardened denizens of Luciensburg, and the ever loyal Yong Ping Army took to the Undercity with determination and hate for the seemingly endless tide of Vermin. With a singular arm, Lector-Explorator Bessol was at a disadvantage in the most practical sense. Although lacking this necessary limb for combat effectiveness: The Lector fought true with faith on his side. He knew his flame burnt bright and the faithful needed him in the fight against the Rattus. As the force pushed onward, stepping over the many bodies of the fallen: Bessol pushed. His flesh burned, the fatigue of battle washing over him as he swung his mace, cracking skull and snout alike.

“Crush your foes, holy Owyn..”

And they kept coming.

“As you did when you led to people…”

Teeth dug into flesh, claws tore at steel.

“And smote them from skull to greaves!”

Sweat poured down his face, blood down his garments.

“Take pity upon me, wretched and lost as I am…”

The ever faithful Padre Paco was cut off as he attempted to drag him out, as more and more of the creatures poured in.

“And rescue your faithful servant.”

Though he lived a short life on this plane known as Almaris, Bessol Gammov hailed from the Temple of Ard’Kharyll, Gaekrin. He spent most of his days engulfed in the ever Quest of Knowledge: He truly believed the sharper the mind, the sharper the sword. Upon summons from the Arch-Lectors, he was sent to Almaris to aid Father Paco de Mantequilla and Brother Dante de Denesle in any way he possibly could. With that, he sailed. He will be remembered by few in Almaris, though for those that have met him: It is without question that Bessol Gammov was an oddity.

Nevertheless, hopefully future Lectors will follow in his studies: Knowledge is simply waiting to be found.

"MIJOOOO!" Father Paco screamed as he swung his mace down at various oncoming ratmen. But fur, claws and teeth obscured his sight of Bessol lying on the ground until everything went dark from the Blackhide.

As Bessol bled, Father Paco wept in battle near giving up in the midst of battle before he was pulled back beyond the barricade. The guilt of having asked Bessol to come and having not been able to reach him weighed heavy on the elderly priest as he lost one of his sons that night.

Renault remembers Bessol the Binary fondly. Recalling him striking down rats with exacting vengeance.
"Bessol always knew the precise thing to say to give courage to the men."
