Ruin in the Moonlight [1851]

The following is a public missive from Woldzmir. . .

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The act of filicide is one of the most atrocious deeds a soul may commit; one’s humanity is lost in the brutality of this act.  The essence within that person’s very being becomes corrupted and darkened with a permanent stain.  Whether such a sacrifice to one’s soul is embraced or unwillingly taken, the fact remains that Vladislav Carrion-Tuvyic murdered and butchered his own daughter.  He is therefore denounced by the Tuvyic Household and hereby unwelcome within the walls of Woldzmir.

The late Duchess of Cathalon, Leopoldine of Roussard, will forever be missed and mourned.  Candles shall be lit in her honor, and for her memory, and placed in the towers of Woldzmir to guide her spirit toward the Seven Heavens above.  To the House of Helvets, words cannot express how deep my sorrows go for your loss; know that you shall always be welcomed with warmth in the north.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Signed, Her Ladyship, Anna “Moliana” Elizaveta Tuvyic, Baroness of Woldzmir

Josephine Aleksandra Tuvyic read the missive while on the road to Dobrov, massaging the headache that was the wayward branch of her family from her temples. She donned all black out of respect for the late Duchess, though she did not know her, and lit a candle at the shrine of St. Judith of Czena upon arriving in town.
