The following is a public letter.

To those that this would concern amidst the Church of the Canon and the Holy Orenian Empire,

I would like to say that one of my most favorite aspects of Woldzmir is how secluded it is from the hustle and bustle of city capitals; there are less distractions for me to properly pursue my studies and goals.  The air is clear and the faces I see are familiar; however, that is not to say that I dislike newer environments.  I’d count having spent most of my life wandering and shall always dream of those wayward days of my youth.  But perhaps finding and forming a family has made me inclined to settle down just a touch more; the wind can never remain idle, of course.

Yet this letter is not for me to ramble, nor would I wish to waste ink, parchment, and time.

This past year has been rife with conflict and every day feels as if the winds grow more and more turbulent, carrying whispers of war and bloodshed; of liberation and conquering; of revenge and spite.  These rising tensions bring forth no excitement within me, I dread any prospect of war tearing through the lands of Almaris; to turn on one another now would mean devastation, given the threat of the Voidal Plague is still at large in the south-east.

I had hoped the excitement of this transition within the Empire’s leadership would have died down by the year’s end, yet I do not think that possible given the new conflict within the church.  I’ve been ready to place my trust and faith into His and Her Imperial Majesties, Emperor Philip III and Empress Anastasia, and wish to have faith in their words of liberation for the Empire.

Yet with this manner of transition of the Pontifical Throne, something does not sit well with me.  To note, I am a woman that does not cling so closely to faith.  Do not mistake my words of heresy, for I still follow and respect the Holy Words of the Church, yet I am a woman to not depend my life solely on prayer.  I do not wait for miracles to occur, for blessings to be given to me.  Far too many people use their faith as an excuse for inaction and allow stagnation to form in their life.  That is why I do not cling so closely to faith.

Despite this, I am a woman with a deep respect for principal.  This value of mine had led me into a lot of trouble in my youth, given my unfiltered tongue; I’ve learned to speak more gently, yet I am not afraid to remark on what I think needs to be remarked.  If we do not respect the value of our words and our ideals, what are we in this world?

The manner of Bishop Barclay's ascension to Pontiff Michael is what concerns me.  Had no election process been held for the Cardinals to choose who would be our new leader?  It has been a tradition within the Church of the Canon for generations, yet why is it not followed now?  If His and Her Imperial Majesties are here to liberate the people of the Holy Orenian Empire, I would highly advise following the traditions of humanity so that no action is seen as one with intent of conquering.

I shall hope a peaceful resolve is able to be had in the coming weeks, with this matter.  May God grant whoever reads this with Insight.

Her Ladyship, Anna “Moliana” Elizaveta Tuvyic

The Dowager-Duchess of Adria sits aside her daughter as the Baroness signs her signature to the missive, her lips thinned in contemplation. It seemed the promise of peace was certainly no longer hand-in-hand with the promise of glory, which troubled the widow greatly. She prayed to God that the conflict would not reach their doorstep, having hoped those troubled days were behind her.

But perhaps these things were to follow her to the end of her days, a fact she pondered upon embracing.

Adrian Marcellus nods his head in full agreement with the Baroness' most reasonable words "Let them eat cake!" he exclaimed, as he puffed upon a herbal cigar, a self-mendicant for his many lung problems.
