Evicting the Romstuns

Spoiler

It is always a tragedy when good advice is ignored at one you have tried to protect and guide insists on taking the worst possible path. The conclusion of the Romstun trial recently came to its conclusion. Shaming themselves and myself, their erstwhile overlord, they have fled the Emperor’s justice.

In this light, I shall clarify the position of the von Arichsdorfs' and the people of Arichsdorf writ large. The relationship between Arichsdorf and the Romstuns occurred as follows.

I. After the Romstun expulsion from Providence by the ISA, the Romstuns were offered a place in Arichsdorf in exchange for their services. Hence they were granted a villa in which to house themselves and their arms and were given gentry status within the confines of Arichsdorf.

II. The Romstuns were then accused of murdering the Duke of Cathalon, one Helton Helvets, by way of luring him into Sedan, an act that resulted in his subsequent death at the hand of Sedanite torturers. Death by one thousand cuts. Barbarous.

III. Wielding my meagre influence within the empire I ensured that the Romstuns would not be infringed upon until the trial. Guaranteeing their safety from the various feuding bureaucrats and minor lordlings of the Empire who sought retribution.

IV. Following this guarantee, I personally spoke to the Emperor, arguing that the Romstuns should be given a trial following a sufficient investigation rather than immediate execution. An investigation which resulted in me being falsely accused of conspiring to have the Duke of Cathalon killed by my agents ie: the Romstuns.

The Emperor in his infinite mercy agreed and suggested that should they demonstrate any form of contrition then they would be punished with a heavy fine rather than the summary execution that would have been customary.

V. For some reason beyond my understanding the Romstuns have decided to flee the trial, In this, they have shamed themselves and me.

It pains me to come to this point after all of the help and protection I have offered to these ‘Neo-Romstuns’ they have offered me nothing but disrespect. Clearly, the name ‘Romstun’ is a masquerade for a family of far thinner blood than the noble Romstun warriors of old. To that end, I do decree the following.

The Romstuns are hereby stripped of all land, title, treasure and honours held within the lands of Arichsdorf. It is sad to have one’s trust and charity so betrayed. But such are the hearts of some men.

Dorfer 2 will begin the process of eviction, hammering in notices on separate parts of the villa and choosing whether he should donate random belongings to the poor or to create a fire for his chicken.

“Okay,” says Sofya Romstun indifferently.
